    What are your favourite low carb snacks?
    App I use for nutrition values:

    Hi Michelle. I was diagnosed with T1D last week. It's my first couple days out of the hospital and I was worried at first about the diet change. I haven't changed the type of food I eat so much, but I had to portion it much smaller than I'm used to. I was worried I'd have to fee hungry all the time. This video have been so great in helpibg me manage my cravings. Thank you so much!

    This is my first video I've watched of your's. I wish I had seen it a long time ago. My husband is type 2 dietetic and we are learning everyday what he should eat. He's doing okay so far but good education about diabetes is number one key factor. Thank you so much for sharing and I hit subscribe and thumbs up. Your a great speaker that doesn't drag out video's. My nutritionist and Dr verified to me that for type 2 (I didn’t ask for type 1) we are NOT supposed to subtract the fiber. Type 2 diabetics please be careful with some info out there. Look at the “Total Carb” that is what’s important. Fiber (as well as protein) helps your body digest the food in a way that it will not spike sugar as fast or as bad as a food item with no protein or fiber but fiber will not “negate” or magically “cancel carbs”. That info / calculation is used by those who are doing Keto Diet, not for diabetics!

    • @tiger98011
      @tiger98011 Před rokem +1

      I'm the exact same way. I have extreme needle phobia, like super extreme. I got diagnosed 12 years ago as T2D when undergoing chemo for lymphoma that spread to my lungs, kidney,pancreas. I would never test myself because I couldn't push the trigger for dinner pokes, but could alternate site test. Then my insurance quit covering the only model listed for alternate site testing and I feel way out of control up to a 12.1 a1c. Finally got a dexcom g6 and that has helped tremendously with helping me change dust and exercise to get down to 8.6 and lose a lot of weight.
      Please don't play around though! If you haven't or have been tested and getting treatment, work hard!! My cholesterol levels were good, but this year, 2 weeks before my 46th birthday, I had a heart attack. Went to the ER and they did an angiogram and put in an emergency balloon pump and did a quad bypass the next day. Dr said it was because of poor control of sugars. They forced me into insulin while I was in the hospital for over a week. They started the injections and I was suprised, I barely felt them!!!
      Now I've been on insulin (MDI) for a few months and my most recent a1c came back at 6.2!! I'm so needle phonics, but I told my doctor I don't want to go back on the pills, I want to stay on insulin to help keep my numbers as low as possible to reduce my risks as much as possible from further complications. If I'm later able to greatly reduce my insulin by continuing my exercise /diet and losing more weight, great, but I'm starting on until I would know for a fact I can easily get an a1c under 6.5!!
      I use the 32x4 needless and maybe 90% off time I don't feel it.
      I'm now looking at getting a tandem pump to incorporate my dexcom since omnipod 5 isn't approved for those of us who are T2D yet, to further reduce my pokes.

Since you have 15+ years of experience with all this, how do you handle the depressive luls? I used to stress eat before I was diagnosed and now it feels like eating and food have become much more restrictive. I'm worried that if God forbid something bad happens in my life I'm going to go off of my diabetes regimen and risk complications. How have you persevered through the bad times while still keeping a regimen?

      @MichelleLord  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Crystal! Thanks so much for reaching out. It is hard to take care of diabetes when you are going through a hard time or dealing with stressful life situations. Honestly, the best way to get through tough times and keep on track is to find a support system. There is an AMAZING online T1D community on Instagram. You can meet so many T1Ds from all over the world, and everyone is super supportive and willing to lend an ear when you are having a rough time. I find that connecting with other T1Ds really increases my motivation for managing my diabetes. You could also find a local support group through JDRF, but overall, having other T1Ds to talk to is key! :)

      I fall off my regimen all the time ☹️ I’m also afraid of complications in the long run. Best advise is to stick to your carb ratio and stay compliant with your insulin intake. At first, it may be super overwhelming, but just make sure you take your insulin. Don’t restrict yourself, just account for the carbs you intake. Eventually, a healthy lifestyle will follow.

    I heard what you are saying about net carbs, but when I was hanging by just diet /exercise and pills, they told me to look at total, not meet carbs.

It is a great one off guide for uncovering the secrets behind a highly effective low carb diet without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my old buddy Taylor after many years got excellent success with it.

    I would def. say cheese if my favorite go to snack when I am high. I like to take a cheesestick or two and melt them in the microwave and I just eat the melted cheese. I know it's weird, but it's so goey. does anyone else do this??? I would not bolus for anything under ten unless I was high and needed to do a correction bolus, but then again I am on a pump so no shots!! Thanks for all of the info you are sharing, it helps a lot!!

    Hi ,it's a very useful and informative video. Thanks Michelle. Actually I need your advice about my condition at this moment. I was on 42 for Hba1c test last year and my very recent test is showing I have 69 ☹in my Hba1c test. The nurse also said my fasting blood was 8.6 . She said I need to soon do another test to see if incase I am type 1 ! I have a genetic history of type 2. I had gestational diabetes as well(2018). I am extremely stressed about the fact that my readings are sooo high !! The nurse said my BMI was normal . Do you think I may have type 1 diabetes actually? I had a lot of stress last few months. Also I used to eat a few biscuits everyday with tea which I feel extremely guilty for at this moment. Do you think I might have smt else as an underlying cause ? I also have been very emotional last few months , do you know if thyroid problems trigger diabetes ? I dont know if I have thyroid problems , too. I am so so worried I just wanted to ask for your advice on this situation. Thanks a lot for your patience. I know my text is too long maybe. Sorry about that. Kindest Regards.

      My a1c was 4.5 in October and recently a month ago it was 6.0 and they told me I was type 1 diabetic. I found out because I went to the hospital for diabetic ketoacidosis, i had high blood sugar. I was surprised. Maybe you are diabetic

      Thanks for your reply, you are right. I am diabetic . The nurse said based on blood sugar levels , I am type 2. She did say there are more tests to find out if im type 1 but I think they are not doing them at the moment. She prescribed me Metformin. I will soon start taking it after I can get them but at this moment trying really hard with diet and exercise. I have cut off 95% of carbs , only having protein rich foods, complex carbs, veg, bits of fat . Feeling so upset and depressed that I will never be able to enjoy a big slice of chocolate cake or a chocolate bar ever again !!

    • @Lole229
      @Lole229 Před 4 lety

      @@tufnihassan281 if the metformin doesn't work for you then you're type 1 because type one can only use insulin. But if your dr says type 2 then I guess so. Because at first they prescribed me metformin and it didnt work for me.
