- Today myself and son ventured to the highest point in Lincolnshire which is the centre tower of Lincoln Cathedral, to say I wasn't ready for it is an understatement! it's a long way up and a lot of steps to climb but the view is spectacular even on a rainy day.
i enjoyed your tour of the main tower, thanx
Watched this from Midwest American after talking to a friend in Birmingham who has been there and made the climb, what a magnificent Cathedral! Enjoyed the video very much, thanks for doing all the work climbing for me.
Wonderful Church . Thank you so much. your great walking upstairs all steps looking the miracle Church. Thank you.
You're welcome, thanks for watching
Another Smith?
Brilliant video thank you . I had the pleasure of doing the same trip a few years ago with an 81 year old gentleman, I must say he left me standing .. I hope they told you the story about the old Clockwinder sooner after the clock was motorised .
An absolutely spectacular cathedral....thanks so much for the tour!
it's a stunning building, a must do
Can't beat abit of time in a cathedral ,,,love the history 😊
That looked amazing mate, wish I could get up there, but I think I will have to wait till they put a lift in lol... I love the Cathedral, always find something new to see everytime I go.. Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed watching.
thanks Dave, it's hard going but I did a second time at the weekend and was ok as I went steady
Did this tour today, with a pal visiting us from over in Cottbus, East Germany and it’s a very impressive view from up the top.....well worth the effort
It's brilliant, I've now done it twice
Thank you for sharing this video with us, I have always wanted to see the inside the top of one of these great cathedrals
I've done it 3 times now as it's so great to get up there!
Make sure you check with the Cathedral staff when the roof tours are on as they won't do it when the weather is bad and I think they only start from March on wards.
Thanks Paul simply amazing
thanks Michael, we're lucky to live in such an amazing county with all it's history
Well done guys, what a amazing thing to do , I stayed firmly on the ground on my visit, it looks further down than looking up, what a great view , loved lincoln, can't wait to re visit, thanks for sharing m8 really enjoyed the video lol HH.👍 😃 ✔
you gota try it mate, but you will be puffing and panting lol
Crabs camping trip?
Superb Paul! Looks wonderful. Reminds me of the Belfry in Bruges, which I thought was quite tight but them passages that you and Ol walked down, I wouldn't be getting my husky frame through there.!
go sideways mate!
wow! cathedral looked amazing
thanks chuck, next time you're over we'll do it xx
ArcturanMegadonkey you better take an oxygen tank for me hahah
@@cindykaydee before or after the pandemic?
Excellent video, very interesting 👍🏻
Thanks very much
Am staying in Lincoln in feb for a week.
Am looking forward to doing this 👍😁
I don't know when the roof tours start so you might be out of luck, but it's worth asking
I went up to the top of the tower when i was younger, what an experience and an absolutr privilege it was although I did get up to mischief just like an IMP. Well iwas younger after all. Still an absolutely beautiful place. Oct 2020 🙏❤🙏❤
I think to date I've been up 3 or 4 times, stunning building with amazing history.
If you look at the front you can still make out the Norman part which the rest was built onto.
The Norman part has rounded arches to the windows.
Thanks for watching
@@ArcturanMegadonkey i went all arounnd the beautiful place last Thursday and i am spiritually connected to the cathedral and the city, apparently i was told by somebody some years ago there are some kind of ley lines around the city some sought of positive energy that attracts people to the city. There you have it . 🙏❤🙏❤
@@paulcrisp9861 yes, I have heard similar about lay lines and really should do some research as to where they are.
I climbed to the top when I was very young in the late '60s
How long did it take you to recover? or are you still recovering?
@@ArcturanMegadonkey I recovered quickly, I was a young lass! Now I'm old, but still love LINCOLN.
This machine makes the bells chime. It's called a clock. ;-)
I lived in Lincoln from 1987-1997 I went up the tower 4 times last in about 1995
I feel that I fit after watching this
Imagine building that. All these people coming up there will wear everything out...
It's about 900 years old so not a problem yet
We are so lucky to have this as our cathedral it truly is spectacular awe inspiring such a shame I will never be able to climb those steps to the top
Lincoln: best city in England, seconded only to Oxford, Cambridge and York (all medieval cities)
@@ArcturanMegadonkey but non have the presence like lincoln cathedral once the tallest building in the world for 200 years
Been there myself it's great. When it was built it was the tallest man made structure in the world, taking over the pyramids.
I feel very lucky to see it every day
Interesting
I have been up into the roof area a while back It was very interesting I don't think you are allowed any further any more
Ill go up their one day
Never been up Lincoln cathedral tower, but have been up York Minster tower. I suppose there are splendid views on a clear day of almost the whole county of Lincolnshire, especially the second most important place of worship in the county, Boston parish church known as the Stump.
Yes from up the tower you can see the stump.
it's a must do
I went up when I lived in Lincoln and have never forgotten the experience. Left Lincoln and lived to regret it ever since. Silly me.
You must be very fit running up them steps as quick as you did.. I don't think I will be venturing up there anytime soon. I went up Cromer church tower a few years ago and thats about a third of the height. It nearly did for me. Those medieval folks must have been a lot smaller than we are today.
medieval folk must've been really fit lol
Lived here all my life and can see it from where i live now,its amazing what people did without modern machinery. It used to be taller with a wooden spire which blew down in a storm.I would love to climb the tower but i get out of breath after 2 flights of stairs now so not sure i would make it,lol
Are you sure it wasn't a fire?
I am exhausted! And terrified. Acrophobic you know.
Been on that tour myself, and the rooftop tour my self, like some one said, it looks further down than when your looking up, although it only striked quater past the hour when I was up there.
Lol
As an angina sufferer I might get problems part-way but there do appear to be passing places, so I guess I'd make it eventually...I'd personally be especially determined, particularly if it threw fresh light on my very much favourite Dorothy L Sayers (Lord Peter Wimsey) mystery...The Nine Tailors....
Thanks Paul
Dave
thanks Dave, I think they ask you if you have health problems like you do but if you took it easy you'd be ok..just have to stop often
Struth you were puffing a lot lol, see how I do when I go up this week
heh heh you'll be the same, it's a lot of steps.
come back and let me know how you got on
My legs just told me they will file for a divorce if I so much as even log at doing that.
hahahha it's easy the second time we did it
what is the machine called
which machine? tell me the time in the video so i can see
thanks
@@ArcturanMegadonkey the one for great tom
@@lctrains6768 oh I see. sorry I don't know
no prob
The church authorities need to fit a swear box halfway up... they would make a fortune !!
yes, they need a swear box, an oxygen tank an a nice bench to sit down on heh heh
Nice but would you do it again ? Lol ,,,, did you see the Peregrine nesting tray mate ? ,,, HH ,,, Her & Me
hi mate, yeah we did it again at the weekend and took Fiona hahah
we heard the falcon's on both occasions but never saw them from the tower, easier to see them from the ground
Something I've GOT to do Paul.....need to borrow a decent camera :)
yes you must do it mate, we'll be doing it again soon so you could borrow mine and I'll edit it for you
That's a plan then.....need a clear day for best video from the top.
