  • Weeks have gone by with only bad weather. I just wanted to go out for some photography and so i visited Burgers zoo. I spend a lot of time inside they're enormous rain forest searching for birds and other animals.
    Because it is a dark place i use the 300MM f4 pro lens and i was blown away by the results. Even at ISO 1600 and 3200 the details are amazing.

    Fantastic colours! I might have said this before, but I bought this lens when I didn't really know what I was doing, but I've no regrets.
    That rainforest is astounding. I'd love to see it in person. I also had a little game of 'name that bird', but I could only get the first four!
    1 - nicobar pigeon. They have a few of these at Belfast zoo.
    2 - bleeding heart dove. Easy to remember when you see it from the front.
    3 - it looks like a species of curassow. Looked it up and yeah, curassow is the english name for the hocco.
    4 - these are crowned pigeons in english. Belfast zoo has a handful of Sclater's crowned pigeons too. Lacy-headed pigeons the size of a small turkey - I really like them! Feels almost like the closest thing we have to a live dodo, at this time.

      The first 4 are all correct i believe. I can help you out with the other birds.
      - open beak picture is a screaming piha
      - the blue eyed dove is actualy he rarest animal in the zoo. Its called a socorow pigeon. Its extinct in the wild and only a few examples left in zoo.
      -the brown one on the green leaves is unknown to me also
      - the last one is gambel quail

    Have just spent three weeks in Australia. First four days were at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat with the 2Mad Photographers group. My choice was the 300F4 plus my 40-150 F 2.8, the later perfect for the dark forest areas, also took the 1.4 teleconverter. Both lens are fantastic and the weather over there was very dry and very bright when away from the forest. I set my OM-1 custom functions up as C1 static birds, C2 birds in flight, with shutter speeds of 1/400 for static birds, adjust down or up to suit conditions and 1/3200 birds in flight. So many opportunities' in Aus for fantastic birds images, the last two weeks were hiring a rental car and touring a 300ks radius of Brisbane. Have 8160 images to sort through. Great Video Guido and yes it looks very dark in there, the 40-150 F 2.8 would have been great those conditions ! Cheers from NZ

But yeah I know how it feels i've been following birds all over the world for years. Great shots man. ISO 3200 looks great, I'd certainly have no issues shooting it. To my eye, it looks better than the slower shutter speeds at 1600 as there appears to be a touch of motion blur on them. They still look great though.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  Před 6 měsíci

      I think you're right. High iso doesn't always mean worse images. I would rather have a bit of noise than motion blur that I can't fix in oost processing. Recently, I did some shots at iso 10.000 but haven't processed them. Looked great on the camera but don't know on a large screen. Thanks for watching and your comment. I appreciate it 🙂 grt guido

    Hi Guido. Lovely bird shots. That f4 300m looks really sharp. I see one of your shutter speeds was 1/13 and as you said that's pretty low for handheld. Is that because it's a prime or would it be the same with a zoom lens set to 300mm? Looking forward to seeing you back outside soon. Regards from Australia. Barry.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  Před 7 měsíci

      I think it is for all lenses. With the current stabilisation your even up to 1 second hand held but this is a moving bird so the timing was realy important to hope that it would sit still. For a landscape longer shutter speeds are possible but I tought it was amazing that it worked out with birds 🙂 in Sundays video I'm going back out and I had some amazing light (finally) ! The weather has been very bad for weeks so I'm happy with every time I can go out at this moment. But mostly cloudy days so difficult to find something interesting. Thanks for watchibg. Grt guido

    • @gregm6894

      The shutter speed requirement for hand held shots is based on the effective focal length of the lens regardless of the type of lens. With the Olympus 300mm f/4 Pro you are using an effective focal length of 600mm (in 35mm format terms). Without image stabilization you would need a shutter speed of 1/600 Second to get sharp results, but due to the excellent Synch IS of the OM-1/300mm combo, you can easily get sharp results as slow as 1/4 Sec hand held -- but that is not accounting for subject movement, as Guido said.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      Ik denk eerlijk gezegd dat het puur in de compressie van de youtube videos zit. Als ik de grote files bekijk op de computer kijk dan zijn de grassprieten ook scherp. Alleen zo'n vogel is natuurlijk beeld vullend en daardoor zie je die compressie minder. Stond vorige week nog op een enorm 8k scherm bij cameranu een presentatie te geven en heb niemand gehoor ddat er iets neit scherp is. Maar nogmaals ik ben er tevreden mee 🙂

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Hoi Guido ik heb met mijn fotozaak gesproken( toevallig ook Cameranu op Urk 😂). En je foto’s bekeken op je eigen site. Mooie foto’s, met mooie kleuren en heel aardig van scherpte. Die zien er beter uit, dan op You tube. Dat is een wereld van verschil, al zijn altijd wel wat puntjes waarvan je denkt, dat kan beter, maar dat hou je altijd wel. Misschien is het een tip, om onder je filmpjes een waarschuwing te zetten, dat door compressie de beelden in kwaliteit minder kunnen over komen. Met een link naar je site. Ik blijf je volgen. En zal je niet meer lastigvallen met opmerkingen over het gebrek aan scherpte, want dat komt dus door de compressie. Met vriendelijke groet.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  Před 7 měsíci

      Ik ben blij dat het dus aan die compressie van CZcams ligt. Vanaf 10.000 subscribers schijn je betere compressie en kwaliteit te krijgen dus dat duurd helaas nog even maar het gaat steeds sneller de laatste tijd dus die weet 🤞 mag ik vragen op wat voor scherm jij de videos kijkt en hoe groot het is? Ik heb verder niemand die er iets over zegt dus het zou ook kunnen dat jij bijvoorbeeld een veel groter scherm gebruikt dan de gemiddelde kijker. Ik heb de video van komende zondag overigens voor het eerst geupload in 4k ben benieuwd of je daar verschil in ziet. Kleine dingen hou je inderdaad altijd. Ik zeg iok echt niet dat ik alleen perfecte foto's maak hoor zeker niet. Ik wil juist ook de fotos laten zien die minder geslaagd zijn. Ik stoor me altijd aan die grote kanalen waar het net lijkt alsof ze alleen maar portfolio waardige foto's maken. Vandaar dat ik altijd voor kies om de goede en mindere te laten zien. En ook voor mij is het nog altijd een leer proces. En dat zal waarachijnlijk altijd zo blijven voor iedereen. Bedankt voor je eerlijke feedback trouwens ben blij dat we een mogelijke oorzaak hebben.
