      BTW I had the same "flap needed" issue with a persian I made but instead made the flap and laced it on with leather lace so it acted like a hinge and laid perfectly flat.

    Kyle, I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to hear you say that you aren’t a fan of leatherwork and yet to see your excellent results nevertheless. I, too, am not a huge fan of leatherworking and sometimes the relative lack of enjoyment worries me that I might be limited in my humanly possible results. Thanks to your honesty and incredible work ethic, I feel that I can take on leatherworking with considerably greater optimism

    Very nice the way you’ve solved the problem of getting the curved blade in and out of the sheath with the opening and the wrap around strap, quite an innovative idea. Looking forward to the next instalment with anticipation. For someone who doesn’t like leather work you’re doing quite a reasonable job of it. Regards from Down Under.

    Awesome stuff guys! Kyle if you take a 5x5” piece scrap leather and and skive a line down the center of the rough side, you can pop it into your vise to make a stitching pony. The smooth side would contact the piece you’re working and not mar the surface.

    I was surprised when I started blacksmithing I thought I’d hate leatherwork so didn’t make sheaths at first. I actually really enjoy working on sheaths now since it’s such a different experience from working with metal. Good for a change of pace.

    I'd love to see some of your beautiful metalwork on the outside of the sheath/scabbards you make. I've been thinking this since your first big sword project, I think that the detail of the piece outweighs the detail in the sheath/scabbard.

    If you thin the leather out were the flap wraps around the sheath it will allow it to wrap around easier you could also wet the leather put it on place and clamp it. When it dries it will stay in that shape

    Something about goatskin makes it great for working gloves. My theory is that the sweetness they have in early life makes it soft but then the bitter bastard that shows up later in life makes it tough

    I don't usually go in for the flap/strap style sheaths for this type of blade. But, you certainly made it work in the best possible way my friend.

      Kyle did the math and would have had to make the top of sheath over 5” wide because of the lift at tip of blade

      @@KyleRoyerKnives That's why Kyle is the master and I just watch! Hahaha ;D Five inches! That would look pretty silly! It would also tend to flop back and forth. I always liked how my Kukri looked in it's scabbard. But, it is not a tight fit like my other sheaths and scabbards.
      Kyle's solution here was brilliant as well as beautiful. I love blades! I am a former collector and life long lover of all things bladed. So, I'm a natural fan.
      I can hardly wait to see Nico make the Skyrim version of this wonderfully fierce and beautiful blade

    You need to pick shop noise or music as the sound over those montages. The one making the Frog gave me a headache it was so loud on both. Love the videos, sound on this was rough during that though.

    Has the liner leather effected the blade at all? The goat looked metal tanned, chrome or alum. Metal tannage can cause pitting. Always glad to see SLC product on the YT. I have the same shark leather.

    Hi Kyle, wouldn't it make sense to make yourself leather sewing saddle? It's just two planks screwed together with some spacer that make them spring open. Trust me, it helps a looooot while sewing leather :)
