no crew traveled with us, it was just Oscar and me. we filmed this ourselves, with a tripod, using my personal cameras.
the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process.
never have i met such people with the resilience of these typhoon victims. there was one thing that stuck out, one big huge tiny thing, that was; of everyone we were face to face with, thousands of people, not once, at anytime for any reason did anyone complain. no one. their focus was on rebuilding and healing, not sympathy.
big thank you to Fox and Ben Stiller for not freaking the fuck out when they saw what i did with their money.
hey casey, it’s been 6 years after the typhoon, you’ve helped a lot of lives. salamat!
Casey is one of the best vloggers
Also salamat means thank you in Tagalog
Dang. 6 years. I’m old
6
I love casey even tho we are not related thank you casey love you bro❤🇵🇭
the story of how my relief mission in the Philippines came to be
Thank you Casey, From the bottom of my heart
i can happily say you are currently living my dream, not only in front of the camera but also behind the camera
Killer man, super great stuff. Love your work. Threw it up on video site www.5by.com in the 'staff picks' channel. Well deserved www.5by.com/staff-faves/posts/3v4/movie-promo-budget-put-to-great-use-what-would-you-do-with-25000
So awesome, amazing job. What would you say would be the best way for someone in the states to send a donation?
You never cease to amaze me Casey! You are an amazing person, FOX definitely picked the right person for the job! Keep up the great work!
Thank you casey for the help. i was one of survivors. thank you for helping those time when we needed help.
I know I'm 4 years late, as a Filipino, this video made me tear up. Seeing how my fellow Filipinos smile and stay positive throughout this disaster. God bless you Casey!
This comment is three years late.
You did more for that community than our government did.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
jpracingph nothing is 'To Late' if the intentions are there
You obviously didn't understand the statement Brooks,
yeah your government is shit :D no offence
Tatami That's true our goverment was during that time.
billions of donations and our Government got it in their pockets, its more than shit
I know I'm three years late but I just can't help and thank you enough for all of your kindness. I'm from Tacloban and I still remember every single details that happened during the typhoon. Months from now, it would be my father's 3rd death anniversary. You've done so much than what our government did. There were a lot of casualties but none of them got help due to the corruption of our country. All the money went to their pockets. People like you are the reason why we're still smiling. Thank you, Casey. May God Bless You!
Panda Penguin he donate 1mil pesos
(Edit)Sometimes Government don't really help,They want money no help to people
Sad to hear about your father... Stay strong panda homie!
I'm from Baguio and we didn't experience the "Hagupit"
$25000 is big. Glad Casey helped you guys because our government officials back then were so dirty and they're all asshats.
Hain ka ha tacloban?
Is your government have done any to help the people? Other than during natural disaster, there are a lot of homeless people wandering around the street when I visiting Manila. It is so sad.
This is why I want to be a CZcamsr, I want to make a difference, even if it is just one person, that is one person I helped. Thank you Casey
You don't have to be YT'er to help one person. But good on ya.
I see you on every YT motivational video lmao.
Hes the new justin Y
RSmokinJoe subbed
Bruh, most of your videos are about playing video games. Unless you are donating money I say what you said was a lie.
About once a year I come back to watch all of Casey’s originals and it never gets old
I cried bc I realized as I'm watching this I'm in a big comfy bed on my laptop in my nice house that has heating/ac/etc. after eating a full dinner. I can go to sleep knowing that I can wake up to breakfast. I'm full, warm, healthy. All I get to complain about is how some clothes are expensive. Not that I can't be sad about that but I am just so lucky and blessed. It's been 3 years almost and people are probably still affected. D;
Bless you Casey
Same here! watching the video with full comfort around!! All i can complain about is how my wi-fi is slow or i need to upgrade my phone. Casey is gem of a soul.
Bless you for realizing the reality of the fortunate lives that we live. While we live in peace, knowing where our next meal is coming from, others suffer and have to wonder if they will live to the next. Thank you for the beautiful comment.
Don't cry because you are living in better standards. Rather cry because you have no control over your thoughts, should you truly feel sorry, then you would be volunteering to help.
Theres always something you can do to help my friend, you dont need to take a plane and go to the other side of the world to help these people. Im pretty sure there are people on your area, in your neighborhood that could use some help.
I am feeling the exact same way!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP
from a filipino fan

What happened there
It's been like 9 years already. Thank you for helping us sir. You're awesome as always. 🙏🤗🤗🤗 -Love from The Philippines 🇵🇭
Almost 7 years have passed since the first time I saw this video and still gives me chills and motivation. Thank you Casey.
Imagine if all big movie productions would do this type of project
Zach and Abby Vlogs then there would be no shitty movies to watch
vloggers don't know how to budget, so id rather have a person that knows what there doing doing it for 25k, if thats all the food he gott for 25k im confused where the other 15k whent
Tod Reviews first class ticket and a 5 star hotel, but this was actually really nice thing to do.
@@todreviews7973 25k budget, 10k meals, that is $2.5 per meal, I would wonder how you would do it cheaper... and we are not even talking about the tools for villagers, medicine, tickets, bus rental, transportation, stay.
@@todreviews7973 10,000 meals
Tools to 35 villages
And medicine to local organizations.
If he was only giving food, he could have spent $2.50 on each meal, but if we factor in all the tools, medicine, bus rentals, plane tickets, and other things.
People that hate on Casey need to get their own shit together. Drives me nuts that people hate on someone that has done so much good.
Hey Barnacules!
Barnacules Nerdgasm hi barnacules
True. Casey's videos often got on trending page that attracted new viewers which mean they are clueless who is Casey and they are so quick to judge him by his appearance. So sometimes I try to reply to some commenters to see this video first. There are some that change their opinion on Casey after that.
Damn right sir!
You don't think the maker s of the Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Casey Neistat got $25000 worth of advertising from this facade? A good $1500 would have gone to flights alone! I don't hate on Casey at all, but this video is shameless.
That dog part had me crying 😭
There are several stray cats and dogs in both provincial and urban streets here in PH, actually :( like a day doesnt go by until you spot a bunch of stray animals but there isnt an active animal rescue operation here, so the animals just roam free
same. it was so cute too. it is one of my dream goals to make enough money to build my own animal shelter. I just want to do great things in life.
I kept hoping he would be in his arms at the end
Casey neistat salamat sa lahat ng naitulong mo sa tacloban city pero di ako taga tacloban city, im just saying thanks because thats on of my kind... MARAMING SALAMAT!!
translation --> Dear casey neistat thank you very much for all the help you extended to tacloban city, but im not from tacloban city but still im saying a big thanks cuz thats one of my kind... IM A HUGE FILIPINO FAN!!
I might be late, but I'm pretty sure "MARAMING SALAMAT" does not translate to "IM A HUGE FILIPINO FAN" LOL
Funny how much 25k can do and there are people with millions and even billions that do nothing.
A dollar in our country is equivalent to 45 pesos(i think), so 25k dollars would be worth perhaps more than a million pesos in the Philippines :))
***** Shut up. I'm talking about people that have never, nor will ever use their money to help others in need. People can spend their money on whatever they want but if you are someone with excess amounts of wealth and always chose luxury over helping others that are less fortunate than yourself, then as a person you are lacking.
Really? Why the hell would you tell them to shut up? They literally did nothing wrong.
+Kiddo Spice Because they don't need to, they (generally speaking) worked hard for that money, and shouldn't be forced to give it to others.
Kiddo Spice was telling someone who deleted their comment (which presumingly down-talked helping others) to shut up, not Sean Pacia
whaaaaat!
im from tacloban and i didnt know casey came here! damn! i didnt get to see him.
were getting better here :)
its now cleaner than before :)
and back to normal
+Timo S. mmm
+Angelo Dico how comes you're on CZcams? no offence but your peeps in the video were looking through garbage for food right?
SuperPSTutorials that was after the typhoon. Were doing better now here. Tacloban is now better than ever.
We even have new malls. :))
+Angelo Dico oh your from tacloban my other family is from ilongos ive been there last year
you know despite of many people disliking you for being a little too popular, this proves that no matter what they say at least you have a kind heart to help my fellow countrymen. For being apart of the people who donated and helped them I definitely appreciate your actions here, love from Philippines.
You helped so many people in need. When this happened I went to the grocery store to fill a cart for the victim's but you still helped more than me.
This is 4 years late, but, it’s not about who helps ‘more’. Its enough to just help. If you helped, even if it seems small to you, you still made a difference 😊
all the smiles make me cry
+ocsolJAH tears of joy... lol
This is beautiful I mean it with all my heart Casey Thank You.
Do You speak Portuguese??
Thank you 🙏 for helping my country!
I never knew you went to the Philippines to help my fellow Filipinos. Thank you so much Casey.
I'm from Tacloban and I appreciate all of this! Respect! :D
Hino ngadi it mga Taclobanon? :)

I hope Casiey ending the vlog leads to more stuff like this
Brock Mesarich that's what I'm hoping for too
He just helped raise $1 million to send resources to Somalia
2.5 million*
Simon Bach not the point of the comment, really you saying just shows how some people in this world will always be asses
Brock Mesarich *casey
This made me tear up! We HIGHLY appreciate your hard work and dedication!
0:33 "This is the actual response I sent to them. 'Here's my concept: Give me the budget, I'll go to the Philippines and spend every penny helping people in need'." Ever the cool and righteous man of character, Casey made good on his promise. And in a few short days our guy and a small group of friends genuinely helped thousands of Filipinos, and asked nothing in return. That's the reason I love Casey Neistat.
Way better than giving a homeless man $1 and then getting 10,000,000 views for it
so true
Way better than punching a guy and getting 10,000,000,000 views off it too
Well Casey had a huge budget to work with to make this all happen. Not everybody does. I know what you mean though. Helping people is different than throwing them money.
+cerebral23 For the average person trying to help others and make even the slightest difference, yes, yes it is.
+cerebral23 We all know it came from a big company, but it was given to an individual like Casey. Not everybody can get $25,000 at all. So yes, yes it is.
Casey Neistat never does anything by the book. And I love him for this. Such a beautiful way to spend the marketing budget on something that matters, all the while staying within their theme of "living your dreams".
If your dreams are to help others, you're doing it my friend.
That was beautiful and inspirational.
Rewatching this after almost 7 years. Still got me teary eyed. Thank you for helping my countrymen, Casey ❤️
When I saw this video I understood what it is about Casey that makes me watch his videos. His humanity bleeds through each second of content. God bless Casey!
Such an awesome guy!
I agree with you this has inspired me!
i Totally agree tom
I agree with you SynHD!!!
No trolling in that
I Salute you!
I nearly cryed tears of joy when I saw the puppy
***** That's because I hate people.
Almost everywhere. Dogs and cats running around. Almost run over a car once at night when I was cycling.
iNadeoxGaming I'm so relieved you didn't run over that car.
We have alot of stray dogs/puppies, I want to save them.. My grandmother and mother doesn't. So Me and my Music teacher did. So far Our first rescue "Troy" died but now we got Panda, Mike, Chookie (with an H), and Hope. I still see stray dogs atleast 5 walking to school and school is just 2 blocks away. At the Lake which where we can rent bikes (3.5 Kilometers) I atleast see 13 dogs, I count them I always go there on Sundays and Saturdays.. Philippines may be a dirty place but we have places that are beautiful too ( Sorry for this short essay this is just a crumbles of Facts of Philippines :))

Thank you so much Casey Neistat, I'm from the Philippines, God bless you, are the most helpful person in the world.
Then why do u speak engilash wait do Philippine’s speak engilash
Dgagaingerardvlogs spoke in english so that casey can understand what he is saying casey dosent know how to speak tagalog yes filipinos speak in english sometimes
@@jamiedow9669 are school teach us English
@@jamiedow9669 The Philippines was under U.S. control from 1898-1946, after the Spanish-American War, so the U.S. sent Thomasites and just general influence over the Philippines made English big there. There are some Filipinos who speak very VERY impressive English, today English is the second official language in the Phillippines.
Im a filipino i dont sue translator lol
I am just watching this now. I am a big fan of yours Casey and thank you so much for helping my country. You have the biggest heart of all

Seen this once before, Casey, if your there, you made this old man cry! You are an extraordinary man!
going back through all of Casey's vids because I'm having vlog withdrawal...one isn't enough per day
moiraine_damodred same here
moiraine_damodred me too!!
moiraine_damodred You're crazy! ...No I feel exactly the same way... Casey is my man! : )
moiraine_damodred i feel the same way but he puts so much works into the vlogs which is why they are so good, it would take way too much time out of his day to make more than one.
moiraine_damodred I do the same thing! I watch in the morning when i first wake up to start my day off on a happy note!
im a filipino my self i have been subscribe to you since feb 2014 ......our home has been hit by that storm too. the roof of our house has been completely taken off during that storm. most of our valuables dint make it we try to save some but we coulndt because theres only me and my mom i feel devastated that day and every storm that will hit our region i always prepare gathering my valuables the day it will hit. most of the people dont undestand the meaning of humanity for me watching this video is verry warmfelt knowing that what happened to us during that day is nothing copared to what happened in tacloban countless people have died during that day uncountable, faceless and nameless .......see this is what seperates people before color and religion seperated us and greed defines us there is always that bond with other human being even if you dont know any of them you will still help
luv the vid casey
Rly
I will give you a Spam for that comment...
Sorry this happened :/ I live in a country where things like that dont happen so I feel bad, one day when i older I will make a difference like Casey to change things for poorer countries

November 8, 2013
Its been 3years when the typhoon hits my country especially in Tacloban... But then it is not too late to give thanks to all the people who helped the victims... May God bless you... :)
A true fighter
Jasmin Cortez I hope you and your family are doing well after this horrible disaster. And you are right, it is never too late to say thank you! pag-palain ka ng diyos ngayon at magpakailanman!!
Casey should go back there
he said he would
If he gets another huge budget
I hope☝
Casey this is beautiful. We need more people like you in this world. And how blessed I am to be sitting in a warm bed, well fed and well clothed while watching this.
you're an amazing person. I can't thank you enough for all your help. God bless you.
I have a HUGE amount of respect for these people. They all patiently waited in line to get their food supplies. They didnt scream or yell at each other, no fighting, no arguments. They lost everything they had and yet were still able to smile. That amazed me the most. Thanks Casey and Oscar for doing this the right way. The world is full of shitty people who dont care. Glad to know youre around.
What an incredible way to indirectly promote a movie and use a "small" advertising budget to make a BIG impact. Great job, *****!
oh man its been years but still man thanks for helping us.... to the donators and casey dude your a hero
Hi Casey! I’m a fan and I’m from Tacloban. It’s been almost seven years and seeing this brings back so many memories from that fateful day. Thank you for all your help!
Yo Casey, thanks for helping my country out
very classy not putting ads on this
Thank you for being a great example for all of us who admire you! God bless! 💗
years later this still makes me cry.. Thank you Casey! Much love from the Philippines. Come back please!!
I'm Filipino but I've been living in California for about 6 years now. Casey thank you so much for not only helping my country but also for inspiring so much people all around the world

You stole my comment omg every word haha
"You are nice and sweet Casey!" Rewatching your old vlogs with my 6yo son and he just said that in the middle of the video! Really, thank you Casey from all of us here in Philippines!
because of this,I started following casey. I discovered this video freshman year in UP (2014) when a classmate shared her experience about the typhoon. Still rewatching this video over and over again til this day
Always come back to watch this, so inspirational.
Indeed.
Galact yes it truly is my friend
Casey continues to inspire and amaze. #Haiyan #Relief
It's amazing what you can do for others when you are blessed with the resources!
omg thanks for another help for our country :)
Thank u Casey for helping my country.
omg may mga pilipino rin na kilala si anneorshine :) kilala nio ba si bethany mota ?
It's been 4 years and I viewed this for the first time. I'm glad that people like you are there to help even though it is none of your business. When I get rich someday, I will be like you. Thank you very much. I'm from the Philippines, btw.
My wife is from Tacloban. Almost 10 years and this video still hits home
From seeing comments saying 'what a waste of time' and 'he wasted money getting there, only to show his face in videos'. Doesn't matter how big or small the difference he had made out there. Just from making this video has spread the awareness. You would not have had the same if an aid worker would have done so.
That pisses me off. It's always the one sitting on their asses doing the most judgement. I went to CapeTown in Townships with my money to volunteer and people have the nerve to say shit about it smh.
100% great idea. I was in the Philippines last month In some of the worse areas. Not only that i also was taught how things really work there and who's who Example : Tondo Manila is a poor and crime ridden area. I was able to hang out with some of the locals and Manila's swat team A.nd a "name unsaid politic" man of underground power This man told me the Government will feed off the poor and keep them poor Garbage is shipped into Tondo via Manila bay and the Government keeps the money from other countries that pay to dump ..Poor go into the garbage and pick out plastics or anything that can make $2 a day from. I noticed while in Tondo near the bay all the Electric lines on one pole (100's) People tap in. Some pay some steal just to have 1 light in there shack
What if they started a program to recycle Plastics and other resources to smelt into solar power screens Now you have more jobs Training skills and a cleaner cheaper way for electric usage
You have 3 types of Pinoy there RICH, Skilled workers, Poor. Rich stay rich and live in nicer areas Skilled workers leave the Philippines to other countries to make more money to send home money to those who dont have it ..just think feed a man a fish ... he eats for a day
Man, that was long!
+freakyflow yo dude no end of sentence, that was hard to read
+BananasandMustard You mean you needed a period and a capital letter to read that? Well i edited it just for you. BTW yo is not a word. 2nd, You started your sentence without a capital letter or a period that the end of it. If you have nothing positive to add not only to the video, But the post as well Come at me correct.

don't forget to click the sub and like button

Cheiftain 19 I'm 10 years old
about 4 years ago, it was my 10th birthday and when the birthday party had started, i saw a homeless kid across the road just sitting and watch me and my friend having a party and eat a lot of food while he's hungry... then i told my mum about it and after the party, me and my mum brought him a goodybag and some food, he's so happy and pleased. after a few days, he goes by my house and i called him again, i gave him some more snacks and food... after about 3 weeks or so, he's missing and i never gave him food anymore. we were stressed out, i was afraid if he's dead or something happened to him. he never showed up again till now, i really miss him :'(
God bless this man! My love and respect for this man has gone through the roof idc I love you Casey you are a good man and gentle soul and great vlogger. 🐐 G.O.A.T.
I was crying watching this, Casey, you are 1 in a billion, you are an amazing person.
On a day like today, when the world takes a massive step in disassembling itself, I need films like this to ground myself.
Thank you, Casey.
Y'all did all this ? Just incredible heart and effort 💞. Casey, who's the man?
YOU THE MAN !👌
Still 6 years later its so nice to see what people are able to achive. Thanks Casey for being one of the best man mankind has ever seen. Keep on doing.
2018 and I still got chills you doing this to my country men. BIG THANK YOU!
Casey, I never knew you did this til you mentioned about it in your recent vlog. I just wanna say thank you for doing this for my home country. I have experienced tons of typhoons and have done charity work for the victims growing up in the Philippines. living in Seattle now, I still try and donate whe this happens to my hometown. I just wanna thank you for doing this to my home country sir.

it made me sad but I couldn't cry.....and then the dog scene came
There is a really why you are winning CZcamsr of the year. Not only has your current daily vlog inspired many to do the same, but videos such as this are just truly brilliant. Although I love the daily vlog, make a new one of these iconic videos soon!
It's 2020. And i still want to thank you Casey for helping us through tough times... God speed!
This was 6 years ago. I did not know you or your channel then. I only learned about you after having interest in filmaking a few months ago. I'm already a fan before seeing this video today, but the bond is stronger now. Love from PH! Thanks Casey!
People criticise you for being too showy in the vlogs but you work hard for your successes and do great for the world. Keep going man, I'd love to see a film like this again
Nowhere on the video was someone cutting onions. Must have been someone near me
Cana Dude hi my name is Prince I am living in the Caribbean and I'm HIV positive I need of some help can you help me
I've been a subscriber of your channel since 2015 but I didn't know that you and your team have done this in our country way back in 2013. Thank you so much guys.
still gives me chills. Thank you Casey! re watching this on april 2019
Thank you Casey for being selfless.
I cried at the point when the guys were distributing foods.. also noticed, that the victims were so strong and lively, that NOBODY looked miserable. Powerful!!
Re-watching this and it's 2018. Thank you Casey!!
Its March 2019 and I still want say thank you again Casey .
He is such a good soul!! Casey you're an inspiration.
It's Always nice to see people doing good in the world. Great job Casey
rediscovering this video after watching your interview with Ashley Graham. I remember watching it back then and sending you a simple thank you and here I am saying thank you again for doing this for my home country.
Watching this July 2019, Thank you Casey for helping.
