I'd be more worried about what the inside of the tank looks like, than the outside. Somebody needs to track this guy down, and take that great big hammer away from him.

It’s best to heat cast iron, then weld it, and immediately bury it in sand so it can cool slowly. That will give you a much better chance of a successful, strong weld.

A little tip, when you connect the wires, put the cords in on the left side of the screws, because then the screws will pull the cords in, if you put the cords (as you was doing) on the right side of the screws, then the screws will push the cords out. By the way, a nice job.

Spent my life stripping and repairing well used machinery of all types, wish I had known about that magic spray that made nuts and studs free so easily when rusted in. Finally, hope the pressure test on that rusty pressure tank went well!. But interesting video.

That crack. You can just weld over it and grind it down, but it'll cause a vibration. Better would be to grind both sides to a wedge and close the gap, then fill it with weld and grind it smooth. That would ensure the roundness of the wheel and reduce vibration.

@@necsoiub i’ve been in the field for over 30 years air receivers. Do not rupture due to rust. Sorry it’s always over pressurization.
The tanks are always full of rusty water and rust. Do you really think a tank manufacture is going to make a tank that’s going to rupture because of rust being in the bottom of it. If this was the case, this sure would be happening a lot but it only happens to a very small little air compressors why? ?
The little compressor is running along and it’s starting and stopping using the pressure switch contacts.then one day the contacts weld them self shut or closed. Then you have a runaway air compressor. The only thing to keep the tank from exploding at this point is the pressure relief valve. If that fails, the tank will explode or maybe the discharge line might blow off to save the tank from exploding and that is how that happens.

I never heard of a one-way pop off valve and I’ve been in this field for over 30 years. Please explain.

@@rotarycomptech actually called unloader valve, relives all the pressure from pump cylinders so it's not fighting pistons on next start up,, always placed in pipe from pump too tank also keeps pressure from leaving tank going back to pump.

nice job,but skill level is not so high... hitting ball bearing with hammer to the outer ring - NO...piston needs oiling befote putting it in cylinder, othervise makes scratches...heatting up this part you killed with bearing puller will save its life.....little pipe has cone on its end and dont needs teflon tape to be sealed connection...teflon tape allways goes clockwise ...etc..still-good job sir !

Seriously, who cares about all the unbolting and rebolting? It was a bit tedious. The actual fixing is more interesting. For example, how did you inspect and clean the pressure gauge? Also, sorry about your busted pulley, but anyone could have seen that coming from a mile away.

beautiful job BUT. no pressure check of the tank??? it could become a large quantity of cobalt blue shrapnel. also no balancing of the drive wheel. if it's unbalanced it could tear itself apart.

That compressor is not safe to use. Under pressure that old rusted tank can explode.
