Let's be honest, we are all watching this just to see what Siskel and Ebert had to say about Booty Call.

I wanted to watch Siskel squirm and complain like a little bitch and Ebert pretend he's not all into it while trying to one up him on his criticism of the morals or the quality of the film or something "I agree, but it's even worse than what you are saying...but the sex didn't bother me," yes.
Yes that is exactly what I'm here for.
I'm at the beginning of the video but I'm pretty sure I know how this picture will turn out. Heh.
Edit: Holy shit! I stand corrected. A twist ending. But I was kinda expecting that possiblity too, I should have added "That's what they would have done in the early eighties definitely, but maybe not in such a later episode as it was a different time." And yup, they were into it, holy moly. But this time period, especially right at the height of Howard Stern's popularity...things really relaxed there for a minute and of course the show reflected that. They always seemed to me to be consciously or unconsciously (definitely consciously) attempting to voice their idea of the two "sides" of the country/the two major personality type columns of America. At that time especially this would also cover generation demographics with Gene being representative of grandma and grandkids and Ebert more reflecting the attitudes more common to baby boomer parents, single men, college kids and teens. If they didn't do it on purpose, they or someone else certainly saw it and that's how and why it went national, that much is obvious. But, at that moment in history all those groups would be more open to bawdy humor except in the more extreme circumstances such as the religious or college professors etc. Or just smart people with taste, but I'm not talking about that aspect, ha.

Um, no, that's the movie I'm LEAST interested in, to be honest! Nothing against "Booty Call", but I was marveling at how 'Hard Eight", "Private Parts" and "Donnie Brasco" all came out around the same time. Now it's difficult to find a single worthy movie to watch in a year, much less three in a week.

And then they don’t even mention PT Anderson for Hard Eight because it was his first film and he was a total unknown. I cracked up when Siskel said “top flight directors” should take notice of Philip Baker Hall’s performance. If only they knew what PT Anderson had to come!

@@erakfishfishfish Paul Giamatti was a complete unknown......and funny how you don't notice that they play a clip of Giamatti in "Donnie Brasco" as well, where he had a bit part as an FBI agent. I sought out Smilla's Sense of Snow because of finding this review. I avoided it for decades based on the title because I thought it was just some 180-minute period film or something. ...They are NOT wrong about the ending, which is probably the reason it's been out of print for decades. I had a hundred questions, most pertinent and non-spoilery: So you have this top secret expedition to Greenland to find *REDACTED* which you will kill anyone outside of your trusted circle who knows about it, but you have a child ride-along program? Unlike S&E, I do feel it wildly unravels the story enough that it wrecks an otherwise skillful adaptation of what's a pretty tedious novel (There are so many redundant "walking through semi-abandoned records room" sequences and extra conversations in the book the movie wisely cuts). Julia Ormand IS really good in it, though.
