  • This video thoughtfully examines my knife collection, and picks 10 knives- maybe with an honorable mention. The knives I have picked start from under $100 to about $500. You'll find brands like Massdrop, Spyderco, Hawk Knives, GEC, Benchmade and more. I explain things I prefer in an every day carry blade, like weight, handle size, blade size, and how tactical it looks. Check out the full reviews below.

10 years ago, when pocket knives were only just getting into powder steels, CRV was using S30V and S35VN way before it was cool. Back then they were really worth the $400; even few high end knives had the fit and finish that CRV did. Now that everyone and there kid brother is making knives with titanium frame lock handles and S35VN blades for $150-200, the Sebenza just isn’t worth it.

I was super impressed with how easy those $250 knives could cut through cardboard! I just threw all my $15 box cutters away. There out of my life! I feel so liberated. And the way that $450 knife chopped that log when bashed with that other little log! I mean come on! That just replaced a $9 saw and a $40 axe! I’m done with the budget bullshit. And to think I’ve been carrying around a $70 multitool for years when I could have been carrying a $200 single blade folder. Shame! I feel so old and gay like Uncle Randy.

I forgot how good the sharpening system could be. Plus I cleaned and polished the sink afterwards which gave me some domestic points in the process.

My favorite is my spyderco police folder from the mid 90s. Mine is made with ATS 55....from my research they only made 1000 of these with this kind of steel. I think the bulk of them were made with ATS 35 steel. I lost it about 4 years ago then found it under about 3 inches of dirt in my back yard....must have dropped it while doing some kind of cutting chore. I washed it off and its still good as new. No rust what so ever. Great all around knife.

You know I’ve used this for about 5 years now, and occasionally use that. However it never made much difference to me, which is why I forget to use it nearly every time.

I like the fact you actually take an expensive knife and use it or abuse it. Those guys who sit in a room and pull out all sorts of blades and ooh and aw just don't impress. Keep it up.

Your writing is absolutely brilliant, world changing. I hope, outside the knife channel, you are working pro or amateur somewhere as a playwright, screenwriter, copywriter, novelist, blogger, journalist, comedian, whatever. I will buy your magnum opus (if I'm not already).

I am quite happy with my custom m4 griptilian, but damn if i don't keep watching every single one of your videos and say, "i should buy an s110v PM2 and compare the two," or "hmm, maybe I can use a machete to trim the hedges, I don't think the HOA has laws against that." Cheers man, keep up the good work.

I grew up in Bradford PA, home of the Case knife. Suffice it to say, I never purchased one in my life because all I had to do was wait for my birthday, or Christmas and I would often get one as a gift. Bradford also happens to be the home of the world famous Zippo Mfg. By the way Zippo acquired Case many years ago. Both companies are still going strong.
On a final note, I've never purchased a Zippo lighter either....much the same scenario as the knives. I've gotten many limited edition knives and lighters over the years. Zippo also produced a SS wallet that I gave to about 12 coworkers in Chicago about 5 years ago. They all loved them and still use them to this day. Unfortunately, Zippo no longer makes them.
