- A longplay of the unlockable Green Goblin mode from "Spider-Man: The Movie Game", uploaded in 4K. I didn't find out until YEARS later that this even existed! Made replaying the game very interesting. Spider-Man fanatics MUST give this one a try! This is the PS2 version, and if you're wondering... Yes, it does run as badly as it looks. Not because of my PC, but because the PS2 version was pretty choppy back in the day. The only thing missing here is the Kraven ark, but that was exclusive to the Xbox version.

EXPLAINER:
- At the beginning of the video, I'm showing how to unlock Green Goblin. Normally, you need to beat the game on "Hero" difficulty as Spider-Man. BUT, you can use cheat code "ARACHNID" to unlock all levels. Then, start a new game Hero difficulty. Now go back to main menu, then level warp to "Conclusion", and just skip it. You can now enable Green Goblin mode in the Special menu, as you've now "beat" the game on Hero. ;)
- The Green Goblin you play as in this mode is NOT Norman Osborn, the one that Spidey fights. It's Harry Osborn in a "what if" scenario, taking up the mantle to try and uncover what his dad was up to. It's not 100% clear to me whether Peter already fought Norman at this point where Norman died, but I assume that this is what they were going for. You also fight a different Goblin when playing as Harry, but it's weird because the other Goblin suggests that Norman hired him to take out Spider-Man... But... Then where is Norman? Isn't he the Goblin that already died? Why is there ANOTHER? This other Goblin also alludes to taking over Oscorp, so who the hell is he? Honestly, I'm just glad they decided to put this whole thing in, as I think the average person NEVER realized this "What if" scenario was in the game.
- Hand to hand combat (punches and kicks) is exactly the same as with Spidey, but with cool extra Goblin stuff. L2 and each of the different letter/symbol buttons give you a different type of pumpkin bomb to forward direction. Triangle is "Turbo Run", where Goblin charges forward quickly, but it guzzles up your "web" meter so I found it useless. Pumpkin bombs also use the "web" meter too. You can summon a Razor Bat above Goblin with R1, it's fairly weak but will seek out and attack enemies.
- Glider can do a lot of cool stuff. Get on it by pressing R2. It has a machine gun fired with Square button (PS2) but it overheats the glider but still is useful from a distance... Homing blades fired with Circle (has own meter that will refill after a bit, and using them heats up glider as well), droppable pumpkin bombs from under the glider using Triangle (has it's own meter that refills after a bit), and finally, hitting "X" lets Goblin jump off of the glider. Finally, you can ride forward with R2, and turbo by holding "X" which gives you a massive speed boost, but quickly overheats the glider. Very useful for the chase missions though, but just don't let it overheart.

Facts... I remember with Spider-Man 3 on PS3 (and I think 360) where unless you got the collector's edition, you had to pay like $10 to play as New Goblin. Except he was already built into the game, you had to pay the money to unlock it! That was around the time where things really started going downhill... It ain't like it used to be, that's for sure.
@@longplaylegends Micro transactions are the new wave. 99% of games don't even have cheat codes and I loved beating a game and then replaying with cheats to add more value to it.
Nah, that would be during the PS3 days. Nowadays you'd have to pay $12 for the DLC and get 3 missions, but you can only use him in those 3 missions.

@@bcoker16gamer39 No, I don't think so unfortunately... You can do Shocker, security guard, one of the Skulls members... But they all are just reskins of Spider-Man, I think only Green Goblin has his own type of gameplay.

What I really love about playing as the goblin is how the other characters actually refer to you as being the goblin. A few instances that came to mind is how Shocker noticed we wouldn't be able to fly as well down in the sewers or the one where MJ is shocked to see us wearing the Goblin costume. I also remember playing the game on the Xbox and having Kraven criticize me for using my gadgets. Great times and amazing attention to details. It's the little things that really sell this.
Not only this, the game makes several notes that this is Harry wearing the Costume, not Norman. Which is not a reveal for the third movie but rather a reference for the Comics in which Harry becomes the successor of his father.
This just gave me powerful nostalgia of playing this while my babysitter would be downstairs probably going through my families stuff.

One of the best modes implemented in a spider-man game. The fact that they have Harry follow along with the story in his own twist is absolutely hilarious and awesome at the same time.

This game was my childhood. I loved switching to green goblin and playing with all the different suits. I always wished they added shocker and let me play as him as I loved him in this game.

Totally agree, they should have gave him the combo moves he has when you fight him. Although, I think he only has a few combos that way, so they probably just thought it was better to have the same combos as Spider-Man. A couple of the basic ones should have been unique though IMO, but I'm shocked they put him in at all lmao

I know it is a primitive game but I agree. Goblin should be more savage and chaotic in his attacks unlike Spider-Man's nimble instinct. And I know he didn't use it in the movies but maybe a reference to his electric/light blasts from his finger tips?

If only the Spider-man 2 and 3 games had something like this, where for Spider-Man 2 you could play as Doctor Octopus, and for Spider-man 3 you can play as either Sandman or Venom.
In sm3 you could play as scorpion and Harry.
Let's be honest, playing as the second Green Goblin by Harry Osborn is the coolest thing in the game.
Easily. Although I mostly like the rest of it as well. Always thought the combos and stuff were cool, just that they made the game a bit clunky. And the stealth was totally broken. But now they'd turn Harry's GG into a damn 19.95 DLC...

I think I mentioned this in another comment somewhere, but even as soon as the sequel to this game, Spider-Man 3, playable New Goblin only came with the Collector's Edition, and was otherwise a paid DLC... They don't make 'em like they used to. We're lucky to get games that are actually fully finished nowadays...
Yeah, I miss the days were all you have to do is prove yourself, not freaking pay real money...

I just played through this, I'm honestly feeling cheated that there was NO answers to ANYTHING in the story. A 30 second cutscene at the end could have fixed that, just explain who the impostor is and if/how he's tied to Norman's old activities.
I swear I meant to reply to this and forgot about it LMAO. I agree, it was left really open-ended. They did all that work to put this in, and then never did any kind of reveal. But honestly, I'm shocked we got this mode at all. I miss early 2000's gaming. :/

i've working in the audio files from this game and there's more unused stuff that adds to the story,but its basically simple as it shows,harry tries to be an hero cleaning the past of the green goblin legacy after his father died and also doing a research of what was his father doing (for some reason harry doesnt accept that his father was kinda evil) later this other green goblin shows up and causes chaos (its like,the hobgoblin in the first episodes of Spiderman TAS or the Headsman in the comics,both they are former employees of Norman with Green Goblin tech wich now they use for his advantage) ,this is from the unused audio files: harry searches clues in Oscorp and this goblin
impostor leaves a note in Norman's office challenging him harry ,harry knows its a trap but he will go anyway,the goblin impostor ends up kiddnapin MJ again and harry ends up defeating him

You know there was a breif comic that was spun off from the comics where Phil urich became the green goblin but tried to do good with it. While i would have enjoyed adapting that as the story of why the goblin woukd be trying to do good what they did here with harry wasnt too shabby

I wish for Tobey 2 Spiderman on ps2 you could play Harry Osbourne goblin and all his gadgets and the combat system from Tobey 1 so you can have a variety. Similar to how Vergil from DMC5 still uses beowulf moveset thats reminiscent from previous games as dante got a different movest for balrog to help add variety.
If I remember correctly, you could select the Alex Ross suit for Spider-Man, then select Green Goblin, and you could play as Alex Ross Goblin.

@@TheDarkwingj that's a fun idea. Another alternate for post NWH is the Spider-Man: Friend or Foe game, which uses Raimi aesthetics and has the villains alive and working with Spidey, I replayed it recently after rewatching NWH and it works well as a fun follow up
Ah, so *this* is what they mean when they say "Goblin mode."
I wonder if this game has any mods. I think it would be interesting to see a mod that changes Harry into his New Goblin outfit for this mode.

I do wonder if they'll work on Harry when in this mode, but not sure. Actually, my dream mod is like, a playable Black Cat mod for Spider-Man 2, but I don't know if it's even technically possible to do, and she'd have Spidey's voice the whole time. Like, beyond a skin change I mean. Wish I had the technical skills to try it myself. :/
@@longplaylegends it should be possible. Unless you could get someone to voice Black Cat and redo all the lines in the game, you could always do a mute mod that will cut out the voice lines. Probably not for the prerendered cut scenes though
I never really touched any of the Spider-Man games when it comes to modding but I been wanting to dip my toes into modding. Maybe I can try to look into it. I did have someone help me mod an original character into the new Spider-Man game
Now if someone could take the audio here, combine with other keaton spiderman lines and make the original cut of this game.
Spider Man The Movie Game Special Edition
I was kinda dissapointed in this mode when I first saw this as a kid.
I was expecting Green Goblin/Norman Osbourne to be playable with his own 20+ combos, 20+ levels, and a "Spidey vs. Gobby" 2-player versus-mode in the Training Menu.
But Sam Raimi hated the idea of playing the villain, even though it later-on worked perfectly in Ultimate Spider-Man (2005).
if this was made today with paid DLC here would be a story idea I have for it
Norman returns to his world post NWH and Spidey 3 and must don the goblin suit again to stop a hobgoblin who took the enhancer that turned Norman into the green goblin that Norman thought he destroyed but one batch wasn't
Norman with help from Peter Parker who remembered everything from NWH in the final battle stops the hobgoblin at the cost of the life of the person wearing it thus redeeming Norman Osborn from all he did as the goblin
before he leaves for places unknown he has one final conversation with Peter at Harry's grave, Peter apoglizes to Norman for everything that happened with Harry to which Norman forgives Peter Parker and tells him his secret is safe with him
Norman destroys the glider and burns the goblin suit leaving his past behind for good.
also during the story Norman befriends a troubled young woman who helps her turn her life around from a life of crime

Bro, I read up on this unlockable back in the day but I never managed to have the chance to actually play the entirety of the game after finishing it as Green Goblin because I wore out my system/game out over the years. If I ever have da chance to order it again I'm definitely gonna try it out, this is one of the best Spider-Man games ever. I really miss some of the epicness the 3D/PS2 era gave us for it's time cause it definitely was a joy to be alive!

Yeah, it's awesome just dumpstering enemies lmao. Although some things I actually found quite a bit harder, like the first boss. Might just be me though.
As much as I love the second game better, how come the city in this looks much better?
My theory is that because the set pieces are actually much smaller, they might be able to load more detailed models and textures into memory because there's less overall going on? I hope anyone with more knowledge on that stuff would explain more. Thanks for your comment! :)
