      I don't even want to buy a plane, but I am surprised at how *fast* this Cessna cruises. I thought it would barely go faster than 100-130 knots, but nope, 145 kn. That is fast for a Cessna my man. :)

    If you can keep these videos coming (they seem produced way ahead of time, so even if the output is slower in the future), this channel will get big big I think. If you can extend to other aircraft and potentially even other means of transport, this content and format has huge potential for massive growth I believe. Cheers, loving it so far

    As of 24 April 2022 you can at least double these numbers for NW Florida. 100LL is $7.45 a gallon and a Hangar at KPNS is $650 a month. Flight Line parking in the Florida Sun is $100 a month. The Waiting List is just over 3 years if at all. After 2 years of shopping for my 1st Cardinal I can safely say that the Seller's Market has cooled off quite a bit. The same birds have been online for over 6 months now and last summer it was 6 hours before a contract was on the table. AOPA Buying Service is advising to wait another 6-12 months to further let the market correct as runaway inflation and rising interest rates are starting to take their toll. Vref means everything to the Finance Folks but almost nothing to the market. Don't even get me started with Insurance Premiums. Great Video and amazing how fast market conditions have changed in 4 months. God Bless America... JP

    Outside of doing my initial CFI-airplane single engine in one some 45 years ago. I have not flown one since, nor do I ever have a desire to. I never did like flying the Cardinal or the RG version for that matter. Nor would I ever consider buying one. On the other hand, I would take a 182 in a heartbeat.

    It's like Cessna's answer to the DA-40: higher speed by making it aerodynamically cleaner, instead of giving it a bigger engine. Doesn't help with the useful load, it's still a "3+ seater" for the most part. Much like the DA-40.
    Surprised why there are so few of these? Seems like it ought to be better than a C-172 in just about every way without any particular downsides, other than perhaps requiring a bit different muscle memory to flare and land nicely. But same goes for the 182, and initial training doesn't happen in RG aircraft anyway.

    My dad owned one with a 200HP IO-360 and it was a mixed bag. It is indeed roomy inside and those big doors are nice for ingress and egress. Even with the 200Hp engine (the most HP of any Cardinal) it always felt a tad underpowered to me. The landing gear, like most Cessna singles with retractable gear was a constant PITA to keep working correctly and the parts were capital "E" EXPENSIVE. He need a sequencing valve or something one time and it took forever to get and it cost around $5,000 for a part you could hold in the palm of your hand. I believe that Cessna had to make one as they didn't have one in stock and they charge a lot of money for parts like that. Other parts, like the big aluminum casting for the front retractable gear are something like $18,000. Basically Cessna doesn't really want to be in the light airplane business judging by their lackluster and costly product support. I finally convinced him to sell the Cardinal and buy a Van's RV8 and it has proven to be a much more reasonable machine to care for.

    Another big difference between the 177 vs 182 is the handling. Roll control is less truck like than any of the other 1xx series Cessnas. Weren't the stabilator handling issues confined to the early C177A's and not later production (ie C177B and C177RG)?

    • @AzimuthAviation
      @AzimuthAviation Pƙed 2 lety

      I flew a 1968 A model with an O-320 and it was a joy. The early stabilators got modded with the AD that became production. The bird I flew also had the Horton STOL kit on it that did even better than the 172 versions I've flown. Great airplane!

    • @JoshOnGuitar
      @JoshOnGuitar Pƙed 2 lety +2

      You are correct about the stabilator issues. The B model was also upgraded to the higher HP engine. The A model just wasn't that great and that's why it flopped as the intended replacement for the 172. I have my first 150 hrs in a fixed gear B model, loved it.

    • @cessna177flyer3
      @cessna177flyer3 Pƙed 2 lety

      You are correct, the Cardinal flies differently than other 1xx series Cessnas. That was both an asset and a liability. In the training market, the responsive and light control forces lead to over-controlling by pilots who didn’t use a light touch, particularly in pitch during the flare. This resulted in some bent airplanes early on and damaged the reputation on the Cardinal, through no fault of its own. But in the hands of a competent pilot, the airplane is a joy to fly, precisely because it doesn’t “fly” like a Cessna.

      I own a 177B. Insurance might be slightly higher than a 172 (within a couple hundred $/year). The 180 HP engine will burn slightly more fuel than the 160 HP engine in older 172s, but you are going faster in the Cardinal, so it’s a wash.
