  • Mount Antero 4x4 trail guide for off-road vehicles. Mt. Antero is a trail near Buena Vista, Co and has spectacular high mountain scenery, but may test your pucker factor. This trail guide video is designed for all vehicles from stock to highly modified. We hope to include all kinds of Jeeps, Toyotas, Fords, Nissans, and all other off-roaders in future videos. We also hope this guide is useful by showing you the trail from start to finish in order.
    Here’s the time stamps I forgot to update after the last watch.

    Colorado Mallcrawlers focuses on making hopefully high quality trail guides. We use all kinds of vehicles and usually base our difficulty ratings off a stock wrangler rubicon. However, the guides should provide enough information for you to figure out if your vehicle can do it no matter what you drive.
    Just got monetized, not managing how it works, let me know if there’s too many ads... I hate that myself.

    Also, we drive to around 13,800 ft, not 18,800. My UConnect said 13,855 ft the previous weekend. The video I took of UConnect was on the way down from the highest point as I forgot to take it at the top. Not sure of the accuracy, but based on paper maps, it looks like you drive to somewhere in the 13,800 ft section.

    I am really liking your videos. You show off the beauty of Colorado, the difficulty of certain trails, and also that not just a Jeep Wrangler and a Tacoma are the only vehicles to off-road in. I love that you have a Nissan frontier and range rovers and Cherokees and in some of your other videos you even show a variety of other off-roading vehicles.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! Yeah, I’d love to have a representative each off-road class (full size, mid size truck, stock SWB Jeep, stock LWB Jeep, small off-roader, midsize off-roader, and older budget build) in each video, but scheduling is pretty tough in accomplishing that. However, even tho the goal is to get new trails documented, we’ll likely go back to some of our favorites with unique vehicles to produce a short action packed video. Thank for watching!

    Ran this trail to the summit last July with 4 100 Series LandCruisers and 1 200 Series LandCruiser. All of us were running 33" tires (KO2) at 18psi. Had zero issues anywhere along the way. But, it's narrow along the lower, wooded section with zero sight lines so oncoming traffic can sneak up on you and no room to pass. Once above tree line, you can see for a LOOOOOONG way and plan your passing spots. Excellent trail. We did it and then TinCup followed by Cumberland, Waunita, Black Sage and Old Monarch to return to our basecamp above Salida. Very long day in the seat, but so amazing.

That said, what do you think the top one or two challenges are on this particular trail from a technical driving perspective for someone newer to off-roading? • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you! The switchbacks would be the biggest issue in my opinion as you may have to back up on them to let someone pass. The second challenge would be if your vehicle has enough low end or power to get to the top. Yes, at 9 minutes, you have just broken past 12,000ft.

      I think a subie could make it to the top, but I wouldn’t do it alone. I did not air down for this… I believe people air down too much. Airing down increases your risk of sidewall punctures and you don’t need it for traction here. Have fun!

    Have you tried using a WeBoost and Wilson Antenna setup? This should allow for LTE or 5G connection so you can upload in your camp area using your cell phone. Also I haven't had any gashes since I started running KM3 tires, my AT Destinations got gashed pretty bad wheeling in Michigan, Colorado would have definitely gashed my tires up.

    Headed out to Buena Vista with my family in a few weeks and this trail is on my list. We did the Apline Loop (not the section from Ouray to Animas though) and Mosquito Pass last year. The self roads were a lot for my kids, especially the top of Engineer Pass before getting to Odom Point. Do you think the jump in pucker factor between that section of Engineer Pass to Mt Antero (also wanting to tackle Imogene) is too much? Thanks and great video!

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 2 lety

      I think Engineer and Antero are similar, but I’d say Antero has slightly less pucker because you’re in a more confined space where engineer is more open. I think the key with kids on shelf roads is to not show them fear. Have a great time!

If I’m not filming, I can do a trail while still enjoying it at the lower limit of the estimate. If filming, ususally at the upper range of the estimate.

He picked up a XJ tho. Sean has filmed a bunch, but he took on some damage due to two blown KO2s on red cone so that’s also happening. Still, there’s probably 6-7 Cherokee videos filmed. We may do a what needs to be beefed up on the KL video this winter too.
