Today we're going to talk about a type of vitamin B12 I would avoid: cyanocobalamin.
Cyanocobalamin is a synthetic version of vitamin B12. It's a very cheap version, and it's hiding in many fortified grain foods, synthetic vitamins, energy drinks, B12 injections, and even infant formulas. It's also typically present in very high doses in these products.
The problem is that there is a cyanide molecule attached to the cobalamin. Cyanide shuts down the oxygen to your mitochondria.
Potential side effects of cyanocobalamin:
⢠Vomiting
⢠Stomach problems
⢠Low potassium
⢠Headaches
⢠Fever
⢠Dizziness
It's true that the liver can detoxify small amounts of cyanide. But what if someone consumes large amounts of products containing this synthetic B12?
Some people also have problems with their detoxification genes that could cause them to have trouble getting rid of cyanide. Another common genetic problem with methylation can cause the effects of synthetic vitamin B12 to be worse.
The best form of vitamin B12 is the natural version called methylcobalamin. This version is the active form of vitamin B12 and stays in the body longer than the synthetic versions.
Potential benefits of methylcobalamin:
⢠It may help improve sleep
⢠It can decrease the need for sleep
⢠It can help you wake up feeling alert and refreshed
⢠It can help you fall asleep faster
⢠It's great for the nervous system (especially the myelin sheath)
⢠It supports healthy eyes
⢠It increases melatonin
⢠It decreases homocysteine
⢠It can help regulate cortisol
⢠It supports the red blood cells
Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency:
⢠Not consuming foods high in vitamin B12
⢠Stomach inflammation
⢠H. pylori
⢠Low stomach acid
⢠Gastric bypass
⢠Inflammation in the intestines

@@rjarora Berg mentioned it in another video but eating lots of carbohydrates can cause stiffnes in your joints and muscles, especially in the morning. if I told anyone about Methyleneblue they would ask when I started drugs.
jokes aside, B12 and other vitamins helped pull me out of a depression, and I mean bad depression. I had GALLONS of urine in jugs, never left my room, wanted to die, and felt like I was going to die anyway.
I'm still recovering but I finally had the energy to clean my room. I have carpet again. I have more energy and I'm not constantly sore. I've been slowly picking up my weights again, though I can feel how out of shape I am. I'm still thin but if I get to the point of sweating it feels like I'm going to pass out from heat exhaustion and my heart feels weak. I used to have a very strong heart but after years of sitting and not doing anything I'm sure something must have happened. so I try not to stress my heart too much but I'm slowly building cardio and endurance again.
I don't think anyone will read this or care but it helps me write it down. it's a really big achievement for me.
anyway, have a great day and stay healthy :)

I am a "Senior" who has had enormous benefit from switching to methylcobalimine from the cyano-version. I USED to be very diabetic with great peripheral neuropathy damage to my feet and even hands. That damage is "supposed" to be permanent but mine is virtually GONE and I have regained full sensation everywhere---NO numbness or fire-feet! Seniors tend to become unable to properly digest and absorb vitamin B-12 from lack of stomach acid, and develop a range of "ageing" conditions, especially Psoriasis. A daily "megadose" of one to two and even three milligrams of Methylcobalimine is warranted, not toxic, and do not give up until you find an Internist who agrees with that. Yes, my psoriasis is gone too!.............................elsullo

Thanks Doc, I worry about my liver bc I lost a few friends to liver troubles. I checked my b-complex and it does have the cheaper B12 version. I'm tossing it in the trash today. I like water, so I never drank that colored sugar water that the conglomerates push on us. I also stopped oats and cereals and switched back to mostly just bacon and eggs. I've lost some weight by doing this.
I mostly eat vegetarian but I eat fatty fish only (sardines, anchovies and salmon). I eat seafood for my B12 and added beef liver for the B12.
Julie LâŚ. I prefer your sources. Simple & accessible. Thanks
Good sources.
Smart!
Julie ~I do agree with you in staying away from eating BEEF because of too high saturated fat content, fed GMO corn, antibiotics, and growth hormone steroids. âBUTâ I strongly recommend, if you can get farmed organic or especially wild bush meat like Mule Deer is better eating than Whitetail Deer, Fallow or Red Deer, Caribou, Moose (I was raised with this), Bison (Buffalo), and/or ELK. These meats are much more healthier than BEEF, with very low saturated fat (about 10% of BEEF) and organic with no chemicals added to the meat like growth hormone steroids, etc. Also another thing to consider is organic Goat meat, organic Lamb is good but a higher saturated fat content.

We must focus on meeting your B12 needs in a way that works best for you and aligns with our personal preferences.

If you're not methylating properly, methylcobalamin can be a nightmare for anxiety type symptoms even in small doses. Hydroxycobalamin does not have this effect and may work better for these people temporarily along as their liver is able to convert it.

One of the most important things you can do is the prevention of recycling of the bile . You do this by consuming beans or psyllium husk (if your kidneys are compromised or you gave kidney disease, otherwise beans all the way ). What this preventing will do is excrete excess hormones that the liver cannot break down by the binding of the bile carrying the hormones which are fat soluble to the fiber which cannot be reabsorbed by the GI tract and thus , excreted by the large intestine via bowel movements.

Thanks Dr Berg. Ones a week I take a pill of B12 and folic acid, and only now I see it is written "cyanocobalamin". Never thought that a poison will be placed in a pill and I understood it is cheaper to make.
So I checked and saw that eggs (which I eat a boiled one almost everyday) are rich in vitamin B12.
Is this enough?
Yeah, eggs are the best B12 an protein source cud they are easier to absorb then meat and have 20 less ages toxins which causes diesease and aging.
@@Helenegardener all vitamins are what sensible cuz they are filled with flammables. Otherwise they wouldn't be a energy source.
Food is medicine.
My doctor is against vitamins period. I still sneak them in but Dr. Eric breaks it down.
Thank you Dr. E. Berg. đĄ
I would sack your dr
My doctor scoffs at me when I tell him about a vitamin that is helping a situation. He knows nothing about them. What a shame!
@@sthekidd1093 I stopped taking my high blood medication following Dr. Eric's advice. A simple banana a day, lots of water, cut out sugar.
My pressure is normal. I can't believe it. I was so excited.
Told my doctor.
My doctor walked out of the room.
I almost wanted to cry.
What's up with doctors these days?
@@sthekidd1093 I'm so sorry to hear that!
â@@sparkle3000 they know only one form of conventional "treatment" that is pushed, most of them don't have the time to do research or even check.. it's like with the vaccines..
PS Love Dr. Berg cause he drops good bits of knowledge on us!
Another excellent video! shared! â
Thank you. Glad you like this video as well.
Methyl B12 was an absolute gamechanger for me in regard to fatigue. I highly recommend getting liquid drops so you can really fine-tune your optimal dose. I found that 1200mcg/day was too much (made it impossible to fall sleep), but 450mcg/day first thing in the morning seems to be just right for me at the moment, but it's definitely a case of self-experimentation.
But what brand that has actual natural vitamins? And available all around the world ?
Please let me know name of vit đ

Please reply as it would mean alot
It's worth looking at the salt you buy also. In the UK at least they use a cyanide compound as an anti-caking agent. I'd recommend you get plane old sea salt crystals with a grinder.
Or pink salt đ
Definitely a consideration if your salt intake is higher from Keto
We use Redmond REAL Salt from Utah.

@@Drberg yeah I've been doing the Bragg's cause of Budget but I got the good stuff now I take a multi called life's fortune and it is methyl B it's good stuff

Hydroxycobalamin is the real version of b12, it has been given as an injection for treating cyanide poisoning for many decades. The hydroxycobalamin binds to cyanide to neutralize it and become the less toxic cyanocobalamin which is generally removed in the urine, small amounts can be breathed out. If you take a lot of cyanocobalamin it displaces the real versions of b12 which must be carried by intrinsic factor in the blood, filling up all the IF so even if the liver is making more it can't be transported in the blood. Therefore taking cyanocobalamin causes b12 deficiency which increases cyanide toxicity since many fruits and grains have some level of cyanide in them which are normally detoxified by b12. Methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin are co-enzymes of real b12 (hydroxycobalamin), but even taking high doses of those can cause b12 deficiency because they also fill up all the intrinsic factor which is needed to transport b12 in the blood to where it's needed. If you're going to take b12 it should optimally have at least an equal part of hydroxycobalamin if you want a blend containing also methyl and adenosylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin should not be consumed by any living thing, it's a (less) toxic waste product of detoxifying cyanide.
You mean hydroxO
@@BC-wj8fx Yes hydroxocobalamin, both are considered correct and are the same thing, I just have seen hydroxycobalamin more commonly used so I use that, it can also be called hydroxy b12 or hydroxo b12.

Thank you for this breakdown.
I have pernicious anemia. I will be getting vitamin B 12 injections once a month, but I would like to also take a supplement. Which vitamin B-12 or vitamin B 12 blend would you recommend?
Thanks Dr EB! QUESTION; Is there a significant difference or benefit between Adenosylcobalamin and Methylcobalamin? Is it just better to use B12 with L-5-MTHFR regardless of one's gene state?
