How Deserving Were the Oscar Winners in 2022?

- Did "CODA" deserve to win Best Picture? Did "Dune: Part One" (still harping on that "Part One"") deserve 6 Academy Awards? What about "Nightmare Alley? That film was a masterpiece! What happened to the love? And Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage on live TV, what was that about?
My mistake: I forgot that "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" (1936), "The Awful Truth" (1937) and "Giant" (1956) won only the Oscar of Best Director. So "The Power of the Dog" is the EIGHTH film to win only that award. Oops!

Such a pleasure to listen to an intelligent and knowledgeable person talk about their area of expertise
Please never stop making videos, even if your channel never blows up as it should!
Your channel should win for Best Stuff.
You need more views and subscribers! That was well written AND edited!
Thank you for the comment! You can help me by sharing!
CODA winning was weird.
yeah man i was depressed the entire day
The first stain on the Academy Awards was in 1932 when Wallace Beery and Frederic March shared the Best Actor Oscar, even though March received one more vote. Beery was probably given the tie because he starred in The Champ, a beloved tearjerker film featuring a cute kid, while March played an ape-like villain in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
I just discovered you by accident and I’m learning while laughing! I like you and your channel very much.
I am amazed about how good this channel is.
Great video -- the Adam Driver bit cracked me up. Nightmare Alley looked amazing but was a pointless remake that added nothing to the much better original.
I gave a thumbs up for my outburst of laughter, "the natives still accept me for one of their own".
2.32 Oof, so feisty today indeed, but you're just telling it like it is. This is epically hilarious
Sam Smith's "Writing On the Wall" is a travesty. It's not a Bond song, it a gay porn song.
The Oscars don't exist any more.
No Time To Die won an Oscar... for THAT song. I think there should be an Oscar for the best scene though.
Love your videos, but did you really like Belfast?
8:35 yes yes YES. I've felt this way about a lot of Denis' films, espechially Dune. Aomething about the enviomrnet just seems so void and empty
Dunes soundtrack is like every other Hans Zimmer one: VrOOOOOOOM, drrrrrrr, tchaka, tchaka.
What’s so good about that?
Dunno dude. I keep asking myself why he s so overrated. At least his early works were recognizable. I watched Dune 2 times (i think it looks more like a soulless commercial rather than a movie) and for the life of me i can t remember how the soundtrack sounded like. I m just gonna play Vangelis's Bladeruner or Basil's Conan now, thank you.
10:30 Jason Momoa is not an actor. Why do they keep casting him? This entire cast was a mess. Ferguson was the only one that seemed right, but I still refuse to see it since there's no chance Villenueve could approach Herbert's handling of the subject matter or ancient poetic narrative.
He was interviewed in the New York Times talking about wanting better roles and I couldn't stop laughing. He really believes he's good enough for better roles.
As for the Power of the Dog, much as I love Campion, I can't bear this Benedict Cucumberpatch overload. I mean really, he can pull of an American accent as well as any posh Brit but christ, Hollywood, give us a break will you - please!
Yes, agreed, Dune needs more colors!!! Beige doesn't feel hot at all! More color for Dune 2 please!!!
Have you seen Dune: Part 2 yet? What do you think of the colour now?
@@Mikhael366 During the eclipse at the beginning, the color is warmer and it's perfect. After that, I think that Arrakis in part 2 is using slightly, slightly warmer colour. But mainly, we're back in beige, with absolutely no mention or visual cue that it's hot on Arrakis. We can't blame the desert itself, as Villeneuve insisted on filming in natural light. It seems like this dessert is white and beige like this. Even though they have adjusted the color after, it seems like Villeneuve wanted to stay true to the desert. Nevertheless, it doesn't look hot. But part 2 is so good, that I didn't had the time to complaint about it.
@@johncenter4858 I agree, it's definitely better but it takes a while to take ut in because of the compelling story. One thing I like is different atmospheres we have for Arrakis, the emperor's home and the Harkonnen homeworld. Truly marvellous.
Some pushback regarding the use of "foreign": it always felt like typical American condescension to describe non-English language moves as "foreign." The Oscars are supposed to be the major international film award so calling non-English language movies "international" versus "foreign" seems appropriate and less dismissive.
And I'm so glad that someone finally mentioned Will Smith's dead eye acting.
But "international" doesn't make sense. "Best international movie" would mean the same as "best movie". But the category excludes US movies. So "foreign" did fit, and international doesn't.
They weren’t as bad as the winners of last year. Jamie Lee Curtis indeed!
The fact that it’s 2023 and there’s no category for Best TikTok shows how irrelevant and out of touch they Oscars is
Agree about Dune's cinematography, it was bland and uninteresting to me. I had assumed Deakins had filmed it before viewing it, and half way through I was thinking, 'Deakin's shot THIS?' Then I found out.
I thought it had perfect cinematography and sets for that story. It made people feel uncomfortably small in the vastness of space. Depressing, unsaturated, larger-than-life. Just how it should be in Dune. Filling that space with "stuff" and colors would diminish the effect.
Overhyped for sure
1:15 Idk about this take, you summarized it but implied that no one does anything. The whole plot revolves around the internal struggles of the characters because of their self worth being dictated only by utilitarianism. Their powers do affect the characters and the plot, so Im lost. The videos are amazing though, I just want clarification becuase I respect this channel.
I love you GODiewise
Louis CK is a absolute monster haha
the world is burning from the inside out
dune… part one
King Richard-more like Simp Richard, amirite
Encanto is not a Pixar film. If you’re going to trash a movie, at least blame the right studio. 😂
Dune felt very sterile and not as colorful as other depictions. It was quite a disappointment.
best stuff lol
Encanto is not a Pixar movie. Fact check
I broke the 123 likes, Im the 124
I thought Dune (part 1) was by all reasonable measures a good adaptation of (part of) a difficult book, but I have to admit I didn't really like it very much because of the empty sets. I couldn't help noticing how so many scenes took place in very large rooms with almost nothing in them. There were like two or three notable props in the whole movie. Humans don't live like that. And then they compounded the issue by having the actors often stand far apart, like at opposite ends of the big rooms, and speak the dialogue very softly. Humans don't talk like that either. It swung over to hilarity after a little while. I kind of prefer David Lynch's version, for all the problems it has.
Dune kinda suckes
Thank you
Power of the Dog was terrible.
Let's just say it as it is: The ENTIREITY of movies is about egos making films and even bigger egos acting in them. Then, after the money comes rolling in, all these egos need their overly-inflated egos stroked even further by having award after award after award after award. When one whiny ego doesn't win they bitch like squealy children...never mind, egomaniac, next week there will be another ward dished out and you can take your chances there.
