Feux Follets Double Notes Tutorial (Liszt Transcendental Étude No. 5)

  • Hi everyone, today I will talk about the famous feux follets etude and give you some pointers or tips on how to play it. Keep in mind it is a very difficult piece so some things might work for you or not. It is very personal and not a one-fits-all etude.

    Could you please provide the fingering you use. For 2nd and 3rd page of the etude- the double notes.

    What exercies could you to suggest to help to be familiar with this etude? May be some of Liszt's or Dohnaniy's exercies or something else? Or they are useless?

      I think the best is to specifically practice it on this etude, other than that, try to familiarise and experiment with double notes in general: they're more of a concept that needs to click in the brains department. I've never done dohnanyi exercises but I recommend and have done for years Joseffys exercises who was a liszt student - however I again would not say they're necessary here; just focus on the specific double notes as they appear in this piece

    I think the hard part is going up because in fast tempo it's easy to get caught with tension. But after practicing this op25 no6 seems childs play. But i think op10 no2 is the absolute horror here.
