Liszt - Feux Follets

- After 72.5 weeks and 1000+ practice hours, here is my recording of Feux Follets.
I won't go so far as to say that this is the hardest piano piece ever written, but it's certainly the one that has challenged me most. With this project, I wanted something that would push me to become a better pianist, and force me to rethink all my preconceptions about technique. I picked Feux Follets because (1) it has a reputation for being hard, (2) the technical challenges are all things I've historically been bad at, and (3) I think it's a cool li'l tune. Hope you enjoy. - Hudba
holy shit, you actually performed this on a digital piano
Playing this study on that keyboard (especially the double notes) may be a little advantageous because the keys are much lighter, however when it comes to not missing jumps it can be a drawback since this type of keyboard is much more sensitive to the friction of incorrect notes than an acoustic piano. Getting used to playing a piece of this difficulty on a keyboard like this has a lot of merit, added to how well you play it!
Thanks! I actually picked this particular keyboard because the action is fairly heavy. I find that it doesn’t feel too different from playing on an acoustic piano.
I was wondering why this guy doesn't upload for so long, little did we know that he is working on a banger piece. I'm lowkey jealous of your skill, congrats! :DDD
:D hopefully it won't be as long until the next one!
@@NolanMillerPiano Nah bro, just take your time, we're all busy person.
It's awesome!!!
Such an amazing performance!
So good! Congrats!
Excellent!!!
holy shit dude this is good, you should get an acoustic piano; it already sounds good on a digital piano. congrats on conquering this absolute finger breaker
this sounds so amazing, great job!
Wow I wasn't expecting such a great performance. Great job Nolan.
Lovely performance!
Congratulations! A lovely achievement :)
Wow! I would say that your performance is actually of very-very high class!

Very nice
Nolan!!! It's a great job!!!!
Very difficult piece! Well done!
Bravo!!!👏👏👏👏👏 from JAPAN
Fantastic performance with attention to the smallest details! You earned my channel subscription. Could you tell me which digital piano are you playing?
Thank you! It’s a Yamaha P515, but I’m using Garritan CFX sound samples.
Very nice!! Any time I try playing it my right hand feels like it's gonna fall off.
Aaah, very relatable 😢. The double notes are so brutal.
my teacher said she injured her right hand when she was practicing this piece nonstop in conservatoire. seems like a great idea for me to start learning lol
I like your setup! I tried recording something by the window but it doesn’t look as good as this lol
Haha thanks! My apartment gets a lot of natural light from all the windows, which helps, but I also got lucky that it was a reasonably sunny day when I recorded this. Some of the other recordings I made of the piece for my progress video look much worse haha 😃
If only this guy is my neighbor, I'll ask for his autograph.

good for you, harder to make good piano music sound anything like an acoustic.
pfft
What digital piano are you using?
Yamaha P515 with Garritan CFX sound samples.
Do you have to download the sound? @@NolanMillerPiano
@@frs25123 yeah, it’s a purchase-able download. Search for Garritan CFX.
@@NolanMillerPiano I have the same Piano, is it worth it?
@@frs25123 I like the Garritan just a bit better than the onboard sounds for the P515. For recording it was worth it to me, but for practicing and playing on a daily basis I just use the onboard sounds.
In my view, Rachmaninoff's prelude in E flat minor and Scriabin's etude in D flat Op. 8 are even harder than this piece. Never have I seen any pianist tackling those pieces live.
I have and those works are not even close in terms of the difficult of this beast of a etude
Sounds very like a professional recording, I believe it will be much better on a grand piano
Thanks! I think you're right, but for my tiny apartment and for how inexpensive the instrument is compared with a nice grand, I am happy that the result can sound this clear.
@@NolanMillerPiano It sounds amazing, may I ask how you recorded it?
@@darkalligraph thanks! I recorded it using GarageBand and Garritan CFX. I plug my keyboard into my computer, open GarageBand, create a new project, select Software Instrument as the track type, then I click on Plug-ins and select CFX Concert Grand and then Stereo. From there I load the preset under 01- Full -> Classic -> 00_Default, then go to advanced and enable partial pedaling. Other than that I use the default settings. Also, I can’t remember if I had to do anything originally to get GarageBand to find the Garritan CFX sound samples, or if they just automatically showed up there after I installed Garritan on my computer. From there I just make a separate video recording while also recording through GarageBand, and then go to Share -> Export Song to Disk to render the audio, and then manually sync the audio and video in my video editor.
@@NolanMillerPiano Oh wow, thank you!!
""hard hard hard"... you are missing the point about this piece: les Feux-follets; it's about air, fire, flow, dance, blurriness, not hardness.
My friend, Liszt composed the hardest music of the romantic era, on purpose. What do you mean this piece is not about hardness? Do you know what are etudes for?
Incredibly difficult, I'm impressed by anyone with a decent attempt, this was great!
This rendition isn't bad at all. We aren't all Kissins who can play this monstosity at an insane tempo with a light sound and without any audible struggle at certain places. This dude worked hard to learn this piece and delivered a nice performance (it would probably be even greater on a grand).
His interpretation is good; he makes it sound mysterious, magical and flowy. He doesn't play it like some Czerny study.
