@@neilburns8869 hiding behind Leah..?
They talk about Big Dunc 'restraining' a burglar. What they fail to mention is that the said burglar was hospitalised for three days as a result! Brilliant.
BRIAN CLOUGH
I absolutely lost it when I heard that. 😂😂😂
3 days ain't long enough for the scumbag
Duncan Ferguson has to be one of the only players in PL history where you’d prefer him to score because that could take some of his anger and viciousness away. Like you wouldn’t like to be 1-0 down vs Everton but an angry Duncan Ferguson could end your career on or off the pitch. You could play brilliantly against him and be dominant in the game but as soon as you went off the pitch, he’d try to knock your head off your shoulders.
The burglar was a 9 stone smackhead he hardly sorted out a fit fella his own age and size.
Once again don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Sol Campbell is a unit of a man and Ferguson picks him up and throws him like a rag doll !!!!
Everyone avoided big dunc except Jimmy bullard 😂😂😂
Alan shearer was a hard man make no mistake about that
There's a distinction between 'Hard' and 'Dirty'. Costa ain't hard, just dirty. Hard men can take it as well as dish it out. You never see a real hard man play act. They even try to hide it when they really are hurt. Like when Pearce broke his leg and walked off the pitch. No rolling on the ground, no crying, no stretcher....WALKED off the pitch....With a broken leg.
That's just a cultural difference. Costa had many scraps with Ramos and Pepe in Madrid derbies. Diving and playacting doesn't make you not hard, it just makes you smart. Defenders were scared of Costa. He was a big strong guy who was constantly throwing arms and elbows and squaring up to people.
It's all relative to the times and what was allowed at that time. But there's also a reason there isn't many strikers on this list.
Interesting. I get the point ur trying to make but it's still ur personal perspective on the topic of ''hard man'' persona specifically pertaining to ur distinction between hard & dirty in ur comment. Im not saying ur wrong.....im saying it's arguable, for example lets take a player like the Portuguese centre-back Pepe...I consider Pepe a hard & dirty player. Ur distinction between "hard" & "dirty" implies that a hard man type player has to have virtue and not resort to dirty antics on the field, which I respectfully disagree with.
Terry Hurlock never gets mentioned by the media but proper football fans from the 80s & 90s know he was up there with Jones, Harford & Dicks
100% and he just terrified you with one look of that face.
Jones ain't no hard man. People who know him know he can't fight.
That because its usually only millwall fans who mention him and they dont realise he meant nothing to the rest of the country and he wasnt that hard just the hardest player in a shit team
💯
I would never consider Terry Hurlock a footballer
Vinnie Jones literally kicked Roy Keane all around the pitch in a game and Keane didn't do a thing.
Yeah Roy Keane was a kid when that happened, and Jones was in his prime. Not a good example.
@@gridone769 not a good example 😂 Mate he would have done the same thing to a prime Keane. Just look at what Keane did to a prime Duncan Ferguson...... Absolutely nothing that's what!!! Roy Keane was a typical bully who was all bark and no bite.
Vidic was a hard man not because of the tackles. He walked into fergies office and told him hed be enlisting if Serbia went to war, he broke his nose and reset it pitchside, his last game for United he ended covered in blood. 4th on this list of say is about right.
You do know resetting a broken nose takes no help or time lol. I've reset my own most probably like millions of other people
For real
How is he even on this list after what Torres did to him? Hard men don't get dry bummed on live TV over and over again
Costa and Vidic should not be in this list. Its comedy.
@@panzer2146 - Corr maybe you should be on this hard man list you absolute unit.
I laughed so hard at 25:35 when Big Dunc threw Sol Campbell down as if he was a straw doll.
Sol Campbell was a unit as well
He had that ability of doing a 50/50 & hurting someone whilst making it look like a natural coming together… I’ve only seen Ramos do it as effectively tbh
@@saneman7177 dicks was a master of that. He'd push the ball slightly out of reach tempting the winger into a 50/50. If they made the mistake of going for it, smash!
I agree, but this one is even more fun!: czcams.com/video/-rcXdZpdJ6I/video.html
@@WorldCupWillie I feel Ramos has more finesse doing it… it’ll be a “whoops we got tangled up & I landed on your ACL when we both fell over” sort of thing with plausible deniability… anyone who’s played knows what he’s doing…
Think only Fergurson would make a list of 10 hardest from this silly list , Yates , Tommy Smith , Souness, Joe Jordan , Billy Whitehurst, Hunter , would all eat most players today alive
I think it's from the premiership years bud
Big dunc was found trying to rescussitate someone who burgled his home 😂😂😂😂
Alan is right. Back in the day, first tackle was the most important. That was the one that set the tone and got you inside the head of your opponent. Different game now.
First game I ever played for my school - about 7 years old; my dad who managed a local amateur team told me to ignore the ball the first time it came towards me and just kick the defender! That was the basics back in the 60's
It was absolutely shit really.
Put your mark on the winger etc, get away with first tackle
Roy Keane stamping on his opponent is a gutless act not a tough one. Many of the other tackles were more gutless than tough.
Bill Shankly once quoted "Tommy Smith wasn't born, he was quarried." Even Norman Hunter respected him.
Tommy “ the hammer” smith
10 leveks above all those on that list
The issue is that Tommy Smith wasn't a footballer.
@@BigAidsIII wtf ?
@@blooter6360 Ron Yeates was a footballer. Roger Hunt and Ian StJohn were footballers. Tommy Smith ran around booting people up in the air.
@@BigAidsIII haha if you say so
Billy Whitehurst :-) what a guy, great bloke and I've worked with him, some great stories, and what a man!
I’m surprised Mick Harford didn’t make the list, the only man not to have an initiation ceremony at Wimbledon because nobody dared.
Yep heard a good few stories about Mick Harford.
Billy Whitehurst was another proper hard man.
Vinnie Jones said Harford was the only man he was ever scared of.
Whitehurst, Hartford and Fashanu. Fucking carnage!
Oh, Kevin Ball. Now that's a nutter.
@@benflint4207 harford would kick the shit out of fashanu
One man, Duncan Ferguson. What a beast, even ended up going to prison.
Jamie Redknapp is arguably the apple of Graeme Souness' eye, and still to this day Redders is absolutely terrified of Graeme. Says it all.
Are you saying that as Keys would say “Souness was hanging out the back of him?”
@@smutleybutcher can confirm that fanfic on that subject does exist, if that's what you're getting at. However, I wasn't saying as much with my first comment😅Only wanted to point out that Graeme loves Jamie like a son he's mildly disappointed in.
@@pendafen7405 same as harry then
Thomas repka was pretty tapped, remember him squaring up to the whole kop, thought he was going to jump in and start fighting everyone at one point.
How the fuck was Costa on that 😂
big dunc, some guy and also great player 💯🤣👍🏴
Whoever put Costa in misheard the question. They thought it was the ugliest players 😂
Richards should remember crashing into Vidic's ribs with his boot, and then rolling on the pitch in pain, while Vidic stood up and was showing the referee the boot marks he got from the collision.... He should also remember how his teammate Baloteli tried to act up on Vidic, and then backed off with his head down 😅
Makes it even more impressive what Torres did to him. Don’t get me wrong, United dominated most times they played, but when Torres had his way, he made it clear Vidic wasn’t getting close to him. And then you have Messi but that’s mainly what Messi did to the entire United team. Every time Messi picked up the ball, Rio and Vidic both looked as if they’d made the biggest mistake of their lives, not closing him down on the edge of the box and when they tried to, Messi just put the ball in the net. Best team in England for years and Barcelona absolutely dominates them. If they didn’t play Tiki-Taka, Barcelona would’ve scored 7.
@@bigrandomun9267 Torres only scored 3 goals in 15 matches against Vidic and what has the skills of Messi got to do with whether his opponent is a Hard man or not ?
@@badgeholderdave You beat me to it. I'll just at that Vidic also scored 1 in those 15 games 👍
@@badgeholderdave I think he's talking about pre-injury liverpool Torres of which he is right.
Micah ‘Before My Time’ Richards 😂
This is the hard men of the late 80s onwards. I think the players of the 70s were a different breed. Football was brutal
because life was then...
90’s. If it was 80’s souness be number 1. He not even in this list.
Willie Bremner and Johnny Giles both threw hands on the pitch playing for Leeds back in the day.
German goal keeper played on with a broken neck
It was a very different breed of player Pre Internet and big money from TV
Remember those 2 guys who tried to burgle Big Dunc ? One of them had to spend a few days in hospital
Billy Whitehurst would have knocked the smoke out of any player mentioned in this thread.
Ask Vinny Jones. He was Billy's teammate at Sheffield United. Some reporter asked Vinny Jones " Whats it like to be considered the hardest man in football?"
Vinny replied," I don't know ask Billy Whitehurst. " 😂😂
As a Hull City fan, I concur. There's only one player who is known to have fought bare-knuckled with gypsies for money. His name is Billy Whitehurst.
Ive been in the company with billy whitehurst about 10 years ago, I got warned to be careful around him and has got a big reputation in area for fighting, he was great fun though, had us all scratching at table at same time with him😂
Not a chance on dunc
Big dunc isn't in the same league as Billy

Billy Whitehurst by a country mile.
Big Dunc hands down genuine hard man
He backed down from Razor Ruddick and Eric Cantona
@@mmaphilosophy that never happened my friend. Feel free to provide evidence that I'm wrong.

And i think Razor only ever backed down to Roy Keane.
@@mmaphilosophy you have just made that up? He would batter both of them together. Show me footage? Idiot.
@@mmaphilosophy 😂 😂 😂 Big dunc backed down from no man ever. The man is a natural hard man. No one fucked with big dunc no one

Not many out battled Mark Hughes in his day.
Played half a season with a broken leg!
Ruud Gullit was in awe of him from their time together at Chelsea. "Strong as a caveman, never gets injured"
These are the famous ones but there’s plenty other belters. I’ll throw Terry Hurlock (Southampton & Rangers), his Rangers teammate Graham Roberts, & Ray Montgomerie (ex-Kilmarnock) into the mix. 💪👊
Shearer was the the best player I ever saw live, Keane was the most dominating live. Never watched big Dunc live, but on TV he was top man
Aye, saw Shearer play against Liverpool at Anfield and thought he was amazing. So aware of everything going on and his control was top class.
@@marcknightly9677 so true, had power, skill, awareness, drew 2-3 defenders leaving gaps for the other forwards- I’m just gutted he never played for Coventry City 🤣🤣🤣what a player
There's a fine line between hard man and knobhead.
And a hardman and a thug
You mean vinnie Jones … and often Roy Keane?
I'm glad I mentioned Jimmy case we talked about him and I've found it for years I've never met him and I don't support Liverpool but is my second cousin
Gary Speed. Hard as nails, never backed down, loved a tackle.
Legendary
The label hardman is misused these days. Players they've mentioned (apart from Duncan Ferguson ), I would class as bullies. Anyone can pick on weak people. When I think of a genuine hardman, I think of a person who is hard as nails and isn't scared or afraid of anyone. Someone like Ron Yeats or Franny Lee spring to mind.
Razor Ruddick Eric Cantona
I don't remember Franny Lee (just a bit too young) but my hubby does, as he has been a Derby fan for 54 years!
@@mmaphilosophy agreed
Duncan Ferguson didnt play for my team but he wasnt a bully. You might not know some of them people may have said something. Roy keane picked on people who didn't want trouble. Fact Even Wee Fowler stood up to the gypsy from cork.
@@mmaphilosophy Cantona near filled the togs In a WIMBLEDON match when Vinnie took care if him and Keane they didnt want a piece of Duncan Baby.
Difference between hard and dirty. Shearer was hard as nails. Others to consider Neil Ruddick, Neil Lennon, Barry Venison, Brian Kilkline, Kevin Ball
Kilkline was nails.
Kevin Ball should definitely be on the list
Mackay was the toughest of them all, not because he was a hatchet man just because he was a great player who happened also to be tough as teak. Picking Bremner up 1 handed after "Wee Billy" tried to break his leg is just legendary.
Yes!
Agreed.
Dave Mackay was the man and was playing top draw ftbl after Tottenham (Derby FC) well into his late thirties

He wasn’t known as Duncan Disorderly for nothing.
As a straight man, the idea of meeting Dicks in an alley terrifies me.
Once saw Mr Shearer go one on one with a massive goalkeeper called Schmeichel. He absolutely poleaxed the big man. A quiet assassin !!
Lauren from Arsenal should have been there imo. That man looked capable of mass slaughter let alone a bad challenge
5:44 Linker literally backs away into his chair after Shearer mentions Billy Whitehurst 😂

Can you imagine that burglars face as he's going round the house and starts to find family photos.......it was at this moment he knew he'd fucked up!! 😂😂😂

Souness….. iron fist in a velvet glove & leader who you would go battle for.Greatest capt in the history of LFC.YNWA
Correct. By a distance.
Seen him play in his Hay day for the reds
An absoloute collosus on the pitch
I’m surprised souness was not on the list hard as nails feared no one and COULD play aswell, definitely not one to shirk a tackle and sought out players with reputations!
Duncan Ferguson was always the player I wanted to see at United. For all the talk of him being a hardman he was a genuinely good player.
indeed, he was probably born into the wrong era but he had a fine career. I wouldnt say Man U level at his time though, that's a bit much
@@TheIkaraCult I see what you’re saying, but I reckon he’d have done very well getting service from the like of Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and Neville.
Dion Dublin went to United though
He was great for us blues but injured to much
I know this is 2 years ago lads but I play against Jimmy “hard” Case every Monday and Friday he still has it! One tough fella to play against with LFC foundation & Red Neighbours! 🤯
Don't forget Big John Hartson .
That's the first name that came to my mind that isn't on this list.
My final comment on this is: Mick Harford. 🥊 x
Enjoyed that great video
Alan should be on this list. Many of these aren’t hard hard, they are dirty. There are players that aren’t firstly but never lose a physical battle and still carry on when they get hit! Rooney and Gerrard were hard as fxxk but it’s overlooked because of how class they were!
garbage neither were need to look at games from the 70s and early 80s
I remember both of them running to the ref whining and trying to get people sent off
Alan definitely should be on the list. As Roy Keane didn’t want it with him. That’s for sure.

Psycho was a hard man but he was clean, squeaky clean but hard as nails... never dirty! Passionate yes, hard yes, die for the shirt yes, but never dirty! First man I’d have alongside in the trenches... no-one more reliable!
Why not blow smoke up his arse? Oh wait...
happy to listen to them talk about football where they know what they're talking about, but this... of all time.mckay,whitehurst,harford,bonds,droy.
Question is who is a hardman, the guy who gives the ugly tackle or the guy who takes it and continues…
When I played rugby league, the guy who took the big hit and got up and played on was respected. The guy who got up and wanted to or did start a fight over it, obviously didn't like taking big hits.
...the players on this list did both...
How can you not have Graham souness and Terry Herlock in this list!!??!! they were tougher than all these guys.... Apart from Duncan Ferguson. And don't get me started on Costa.... most of us remember how he chickened out when he thought he could give it to Jordan Henderson.
I think it’s because Graeme and Terry stopped playing when the Premier League was introduced they would both definitely be in here if that wasn’t the case.
Love that Hendo moment....Jordan didn't blink and his chest doubled in size.
@@dazzaMusic True, as you could also have the the original Psycho pat van den hauwe! Mick Harford was nasty too!

Great stuff.lol😊. Having watched this I have to change my No1 from Roy Keane to big Dunc. Respectfully of course.
Im a Wednesday fan, but Billy Whitehurst was the hardest footballer I've seen. Absolutely terrifying.
It's Duncan Ferguson number 1. He was playing against Manchester United year's back and was getting in several players face's. Roy Keane was oddly quiet that day 😀

Shearer will always say his best partnership was Les Ferdinand but having served my time as a ST holder at St James's Dunk was the best.
