Really hope the community gets behind Harman on this one and supports them! It’s huge getting a brand new color film in 2023 that’s not a white labeled product
100% agree. harman is worth supporting
Agree. I did pick up two rolls myself yesterday from freestyle.
That would be good but they've released it as a limited edition film, so the onus is on them to make it more readily available and not be dicking around with limiting it's availability.
I'm definitely going to support them. I hope in future batches they tone the warmth down a little, but still looks good
@@jamesjennings-yd2bc people always find a way to get mad about something
It’s not easy trying to photograph people randomly…some people simply don’t wanna get their photos taken but I think the way you approach people it’s so genuine it’s the fact that you challenge yourself to do it and weather it comes good or not you know that’s the beauty of it!
It’s def not easy to get a good shot
How wonderful and joyful it is to produce a film at this time, despite the presence of the latest digital cameras. This raises hope for the continuation of enjoyable photography cameras. Thank you for this video.
You are welcome 😃
Damn, the portraits were bangers. For the phoenix film, I think I'll need to see more to judge but first impression is good
It’s worth supporting, despite being a work in progress
Really excellent video from your street work to the interview. I love the way you work your subjects with conversation. As film photographers we all need to support Harmon & shoot a few rolls of their new color film.
yea conversation is key!
Looks interesting. I also watched grainydays' video. He went to the UK and interviewed them. Mathematically the ISO is 123.5 and he said he'll shoot it at 160.
yea i watched the video
A great video and interview. Although I'm a B/W film geek, I am so pleased that new film innovation and colour film is being developed in this day and age. There can be a great future for all the film community and this could be the start of it with this new emulsion. Keep up the good work with promoting and pushing film, Ribsy.
yea def great for the future of film!
Cheers for sharing Ribsy! I really enjoy how you talk through and explain your process. Very keen to try the new Harman film.
Thank you! Yea hoping to give people more insight
Those photos were fantastic. The kid looking out the window is my one of my favs, the other is of the young girl. She is very photogenic.
I know I picked up 2 rolls yesterday. ☺️
Awesome! 😀
Whoa great work! As this is too hot from the oven, can only watch bits and pieces right now. Nice results and specially interesting that you talked with Ilford Harman
Haha yes fresh out the oven!
This is truly amazing, finally after many decades, a color film made from scratch from another provider. Competition is wonderful, truly remarkable Harmon. Well done coverage Ribsy.
It's almost like everyone has already forgotten about Adox Color Mission 😅
We did forget! Adox needs to talk more about it
Cheers to Harman
So fun watching you taking pictures in these places i visited a few months back. If you're still there, try taking a few ones on little Island and Pier 57.
Great work as usual Eric. I appreciate how you explain your process before and after shooting, in the moment. Keep up the good work. Cheers man.
Thank you! Trying to be more intentional about talking about the photography
Love your work, love your style, love everything. I should say that in every video but I will say just from time to time.
Haha I appreciate you!
Great video and it’s exciting that we have a brand new colour stock to play with 🎉
Agreed! Lots of fun
Just pre-ordered a few rolls! Stoked! And that really is an excellent portrait of that young man!
yea i think so too!
This is huuuuuge! I'll be getting myself a lot of these soon, I have an old Voigtlander range finder that needs to do some work! It's fantastic how it captures all the autumnal colours!
Def give it a spin
Thanks for showing us the enthusiasm at Harman😎
for sure! they are great people
Good video especially with the interview. I’ve watched a few videos and this is the best one
i appreciate that!
Great shots! Love your channel. Just shot my first roll of Harman Phoenix here in Tennessee.
awesome dude! very insightful interview and so wholesome man, not just some men in suits trying to make big bucks. th passion is undeniable!
Yea the interview was key!
@@ribsy Amen brother. so glad you're back in the mix keep well!
Good stuff, I love the red tones in this film
They aren’t my favorite but I’m ok with it 😅
That Lomography 100 is looking really nice in 120 man
Yea it is! It’s a quality film
Quite enjoyable! this felt like walking with a friend : )
That’s the vibe I want! Thanks ☺️
sick portraits! as always
appreciate you!
Love your work. Really like the colours on Harman Phoenix 200. I wonder if it’ll ever be available in Aotearoa New Zealand.
i have no idea
Thanks for this Ribsy:)
Always!
Very much enjoyed your video.
thanks for watching!
11:30 great pic. Warm colours. Nice bokeh.
thank you!
Bro yes this new film stock looks sick.
Yea it’s exciting!
5:34 was a perfect photo opportunity
??
@@ribsy with the exit sign on the top right corner the individuals by the glass and you walked by
wow great video. You look like an awesome guy
Thanks for the nice comment 😀
Is it just me, or am I seeing different results from different creators? Yours are my favorite so far! I went from "meh" to "oooh gotta get one a.s.a.p.!"
Love your vision, your process, and then finally the results!
Thanks I appreciate that
I completely agree. These images are great, and the colours are awesome. Very different from other creatives
Amazing!
Yea it’s a great development
glad to know there are brand new color negative film not recycling one
Exactly! This is big
I will definitely take some rolls of this new film with me on my next photo assignment. As a Portra 160 shooter, I am tempted to shoot this at the same iso to compare. From what I have seen online, the grain looks good and the reds and oranges appear to be punchy, but not so sure about the halation. However, will support this initiative from Harman, especially as they are a UK company and their enthusiasm and commitment to innovate is highly commendable.
portra 160 is leagues better than phoenix, if you are looking for pro quality. otherwise, not a vad film to mess with
Wow, portrait 5, the first shot you took was fantastic. Maybe this sounds strange, but there’s a lot to look at in the frame, besides her. I had to pause the video to really examine it.
Thank you 😊
I made the comment on Rog's channel (SFLaB) that this film reminds me of what we had in the1970's.
yea it does!
I hope the film community gets behind this film. I just bought two rolls from BnH and hope it replaces the Instagram filter
Same! Hope they support the cause
Man.. I'd love to be walking about and have my photo taken by such an amazing human. As always great work.
i appreciate it 😀
Great vid and images. With my yashica mat 124G I’ve found just with any of the Lomo stock I have to be extra careful loading it compared to other Film. Don’t know if it’s the paper being a bit different that can be troublesome on occasion
The paper is really short so you have to be very careful to not load incorrectly
Well done to Harman for producing this product from scratch, it’s far from perfect but hopefully it will evolve into a fantastic product.
exactly!
Nice! Could you kindly also share the video camera, settings, colour grade and film grain on the footage lol? The whole video looks beautiful and filmic
Sony fx30 and filmconvert
Great video! What video camera do you use for your videos? Looks really nice!
Sony fx30
Thanks! Beautiful grade as well@@ribsy
Thanks for showing us the new film. But I have to say.. What ever video setup you used to film this looked really retro lol. Loved it and you could have just stolen snapshots from the video and I would have thought it was film. Great look.
Thanks! It’s a plugin name “film convert” for Final Cut Pro
Hey, have you had an opportunity to try RA4 printing with it? Interested how it will turn out with that base color
Yea I did - I show it in the video
Cool, thank you, was like 10 minutes in and got impatient @@ribsy
Of course, I have not tried the film or RA-4 printing with it, but... that missing color mask is normally there for a reason. That reason involves fine tuning the projected negative color image to match the needs of the color couplers and dyes formed in the color paper. From a purely technical perspective, it is very unlikely that this new film will be able to make clean and accurate RA-r prints, regardless of how much filtration and effort you pour into its making. The omission of a color balancing mask should have no adverse effect on digital scanning and printing. Perhaps Harmon decided that it didn't need the technical effort and extra expense of coating a mask layer, given the tiny market for RA-4 printing these days. Maybe that mask comes later in a final product after other issues are resolved? We'll see.
Maybe it's my device but skin tones have a hint of red orange. Probably not great for portraits? Nice to have another option regarding film.
Yea they have to keep finessing the colors and dynamic range - needs work for sure
shame it doesn‘t seem to be available in germany.. The colors look very interesting.
Hmm I have no idea
Analogue Wonderland, although not the best option usually will ship to anywhere in Europe iirc
Bought 3 rolls within a minute of it dropping. I know it's not going to be up to the standards I get from Kodak Vision 3 or Fuji Velvia 100, it's definitely something I am glad to spend on and provide a feedback to help make it better.
Yea it’s def not up to par yet but they will get there
Hey, I wanted to ask about metering on the Pentax 67. If I shoot wide open on the 105mm f2.4, should I set my metering app (lghtr) to f 2.4 or f1.2?
2.4
@@ribsy Thank you so much!!!
Nice to have a film without integral masking (that's the orange background of the colour negative, which is in fact a combination of a weak yellow and a magenta POSITIVE images). It's like when in the 1970s we would process Ektachrome as a colour negative, in order to get more contrast, especially for aerial photography, (though it would ruin your C-22 chemicals). I would love to do hand colour printing again, but sadly, there's no point these days.
A lot of us still do hand printing for no reason other than enjoyment
@@ribsy That's good to hear, though no YT videos on optically printing Phoenix 200 yet. There's no market for such prints in the UK, or opportunities to exhibit/ sell fine art prints. Hence my writing "sadly there's little point these days".
Tough gig Ribsy! Great job!
Thanks!
Cool
🙌🏽
Where is your Rolleiflex 2.8 ? Why keep using Yashica?
Rollieflex is in storage. I prefer the yashica
I believe the film has to be tweeted some before I would buy it, it seems to have several problems for me.
Yea they have plans of iterating on this
Thank god for Ribsy, scanning/printing Phoenix himself! All these videos coming out with lab's automatic settings lol
Haha yea - printing is a whole other thing
That young lady on ferry is beautiful. And shy, that's what inteligent people do.
😀
where can the harman film be purchased?
Pretty much anywhere
Black people looking real good on that Harman 200
Yea!
Do you think it deserves to pay the current overprice?
it’s priced high because of the economics of it. They made a big investment - I’m sure it will get better in the long run
I think that it's a good sign that they made that kind of investment.
They're obviously confident that the market will continue to increase.
Have you tried shooting Phoenix 200 at 100?
na
Bruv, you should consider adding New York to the title for the SEO. CZcams is trash rn. Your vids should be higher in rec.
👍
Where in the UK is Harmen based
Northern england
Very much not a fan of it but hope they improve it. Its a good sign for film in the future though.
Yea I’m looking forward to when they nail it and make a pro film. That will change the game
8:05 Yikes thats a good photo
thank you
Looks like Ektar but grainy
i see what you mean color wise
what happens as the color paper industry stops
it hasn't stopped
@@ribsydown to one fuji plant working part shifts... large poli lab printers being pulled
So is it Ilford film or Harman film?👴🏼
The brand is harman. Ilford brand is only for BW products
Harmon Phoenix, gives people the complexion of donald trump.
lol in harsh light, yes
Showing strangers your Instagram as a proof of your credibility... Oh boy. Just don't tell Dan Milnor.
do you expect every stranger to just let me take their photo?
@@ribsy I mean showing your social media accounts (especially instagram) can even lower your chances. People know it's about "content", monetization and non-discerning audience with short attention span, so they usually won't be happy to be exploited for the sake of your followers' "likes". Showing your book or zine, on the other hand...
@@maxbashyrov5785 not sure where you are getting this perspective, but its simply not true. in fact, my experience has been basically the exact opposite
