Vinny successfully speaks japanese without knowing what it means, he's more of an otaku than I ever imagined
It was so successful that the AI (which I believe is OpenAI's Whisper) recognized Vinny as a native Japamese speaker and translated his speech accordingly into English!

That just...isn't true in any way. A weeaboo is someone who believes that japanese culture is the superior culture in every single way despite not knowing a God damn thing about Japanese culture outside of anime and manga and gaming (and girugamesh). They're the people who go to Japan and make epic anime references in public. An Otaku is someone who is just a really big fan of something.

this game has sucessfully done what I thought was impossible. It has completely changed my mind on whether AI can be used to positive effect in video game dialogue, albeit in gimmick form only.

@@amentco8445 it's probably due to the more negative uses of AI, as there are rabbitholes of scummy AI use like in lazy greed.

@@amentco8445The AI used for NPC behaviour and pathfinding is a very different animal from deep learning based generative AI. The former is basically a convoluted series of if/then statements (which is an oversimplification but you get the idea) and the latter is weird, wibbly and can and has already been used for misinformation, content spam, impersonation, fraud and all kinds of other ethically shaky stuff.
This game is a rare example of a good use if it, but I'm of the opinion that if we don't completely ban generative AI within a few years we'll be in a pretty bad place.

Better than one of my friends that I brought along to Japan. Instead of gozaimasu, he would usually just throw together random syllables and confuse the hell out of anyone around him. We planned our trip about a year in advance, and he made zero effort to learn any words or even any pronunciation. And of course he was loud at all times and refused to bathe.
