I am a Philly native and I was 10 years old when Teddy Pendergass accident occurred. My mother cried her heart out and played his music everyday all I remembered was his music at that age made my soul light up. So I started playing his music and loving every song
Teddy and my family were members of the same church Enon so when he passed I had the honor to go to his home going service which was massive like the life he lead! I love you Teddy Pendergass always you brought joy to my life and at 49 I still listen to “Wake up Everybody”every morning because it’s time to teach a new way♥️🙏🏾rest well…

Yes it is "Cra Cra Craaaaazeeee!!!!" That I'm excited & watching his videos about graveyards! 😳 It's blowing "me" away!!! But for some reason, "I'm lovin' it!!!" And to know things about some of the artist, that "I" didn't know about them! The singers back in the day were the "BEST!!!" No music these days can top it at all!!!! Our station here has been going back to those ol' school songs!!! Now "THAT'S" when "MUSIC 'WAS' MUSIC!!!!" I can't believe I'm saying this! But "Thank You" for telling the history & "Showing" the gravesites! I L❤VE your videos! 💖💕💖💕💖

I was 15 when I heard Teddy singing " The Love I Lost" and even today at the age of 64, when i play that song and hear Teddy singing it makes the hair on my neck stand up. I do have to confess that back when I was a teenager I used to rave about the great voice Harold Melvin had until I read it was the late great Teddy Pendergrass.

@Skygazer you said everything I’ve felt for years and years and years. I loved TKO do much but WOW when I heard the love I lost it just did something profound to me. That voice IN THAT SONG strummed the chords of my soul. He just knew what time do to make that song absolute magic. I’ve never ever forgotten that song. I remember thinking it was Melvin too. Took me a long time to discover it was teddy who gave them their unique sound. What an incomparable gift he had.

Back then Motown music artist sung songs that had real meaning. They sung from deep down in their souls, and the wording related to both men and women's emotions. Love, tragedies, disappointments, happiness, sadness, etc.! They related to what was happening in your neighborhoods, and in your life. Thank God that we still have Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Smokey....who is usually the only one who is tours the most, Temptations....that have only one member from the original group still alive, the Four Tops....who also only have one member still alive from the original group, and Gladys knight....who'll be in concert at the Steven Tanger Center in Greensboro NC....in Nov.....

Sure, 60 was way too soon but there's comes a time I'm sure when he just wanted to rest. He'd done so much, including his work with the quadriplegic studies (sorry I know that isn't what it's called). A wonderfully talented man. I'd wish him back if he could be healthy & pain free. If not, I hope he's resting well.

Thank you for this video and the story surrounding his passing. I went on my junior prom with Pearl, Joanne, Jennifer and Melvin. I was the one with the car and we picked up Jennifer and Teddy last. I use to blow a little bit and Melvin had a singing group. Not long after getting in the car and after we were introduced, Jennifer told us that Teddy could sing and asked him to sing for us. We were blown away when we heard him. Soon after he started, Melvin joined in at 1st tenor and I sang baritone. That was over 50 years ago and I can still hear that sweet harmony and the sound of Teddy’s voice. God is good!

There will never be a time in music history like when Luther Vandoss, Teddy Pendergast, Freddie Jackson Frankie Beverly, Peabo Bryson and a few more.
It was a time when singers sang - should I say, “Dey be sang in’”, without auto tune or tricks. They just opened their mouths and even angels got chills.
I only hope one day soon singing will come back again.
I would’ve added Donny Hathaway, but he was a decade or so earlier.

Sam Cooke is one of my favorite R&B artists and such a grisly story his death is. So many artists of my time (60s and 70s) have left this earth. I mourn every time that I hear of another tragic loss. I still remember the night that John Lennon was murdered. Howard Cosell brought the tragic news to me while watching MNF. I remember Beatlemania and my dad telling me that “A year from now, no one will remember who they are”. Many years later I heard him playing “Yesterday” on the piano. I just smiled to myself as I listened and let the moment pass without reminding him of that statement years ago.

This video is perfect timing for me. I’m finding it harder to remember fun times and when life was Simpler. Then I see the name Teddy Pendergrass and a smile came to my face. I remember when he came out in 1976. He came to a club on Commonwealth Ave., in Boston. I believe it was his dancers that came out in Teddy Bear costumes. Then he came to The Providence Civic Center. I remember Stephanie Mills was one of the four on that bill. Somehow I was 3 rows from the stage. Generally I’m a very laid back person, but when Teddy came out, I lost it! I immediately understood why he had concerts for Women only.
Teddy later did an album I think was called Joy. I fell in love with that song, as well as most of his other songs.
