The best one is the one that works for you, not necessarily the baddest most expensive hood. I can weld a 6G tig pipe while standing on my head with a Harbor Freight hood on. It’s all in the weldor hands, not the hood. As long as you can see, you can weld.

I'm prolly late to the party but: Dude you should wear that nice hood. I used to not wear the nice gifts and by the end of the day the people that gave the stuff to you are the happiest if you actually wear the stuff. Plus, at the end of the day who are you saving it for? It was intended for you to wear. I feel the same way (I think) to save a gift but at the end of the day, it'll make the person that gave it to you happier if you wear it. Specially that one that someone took the time to select materials to make, that means they intended for it to be worn and last.

Probably the best and lightest hood on the market is the Huntsman 451. Its made of carbon fiber which is way better than plastic or fiberglass. Its virtually indestructible. You dont need a flip up on the front for grinding, cuz you wont grind with a welding hood on, youll use a faceshield for better vision. I cant really speak to the auto darkening hood, but if you are a beginner or do a lot of tacking, it might be for you. After you learn to weld, you will probably want a flip up hood. Youll have to learn how to flip a hood up and down anyway.its not that big a deal. If you want a cool looking hood with flames on it or something, you can spend the extra money. I have to admit they are pretty cool😁😁😁
