In my high-school welding class, there were 4 stages oxy/fuel, wire feed, stick, and tig. I was the only one in a class of 30 that could pass an x-ray and bend test. Given it was a class of mostly girl but still.

IBEW apprenticeship is 5 years. Depending on the contract, you will receive a raise every 6 months, you will have health coverage after the first 6 months. By the time you top out you will be making close to journeyman's wages plus that retirement and health insurance. You also have the benefit of being able to go to any Union Hall in the US and go to work.

Crazy I own a telemarketing company and pay $20 no experience and with bonus I have some making $1500 to 2000 a week. I pay $2000 a week for cdl car haulers. I start tomorrow learning how to stick weld just to maintance my own car haulers. I hope they are paying people with a special trade more than Chicago min wage with is 16.50 kids at McDonalds are paying almost $20 per hour.

Become a plumber they pay you to go to school for 3 years and 2 years of free night school after that you journey out and make $60/hr minimum

X-ray will find it because it's a weak spot in the weld. Grind it because it's what you're supposed to do as a good welder not something you try to get away with.

The best rig is a 73-87 squarebody if you have one in great condition, maybe with minor rust but if she’s reliable and strong, she’ll get you anywhere. Plus they’re practically indestructible.
