  • Part 3 of my "What to buy first when on a Budget" series. The Scum faction is going to be the most expensive faction to get into, in that you are required to buy stuff you won't need

    I started playing recently, got the Force Awakens Core Set. My buddy got me NW for my birthday, 1 week after you filmed this, and MW comes with a pair of headhunters, not just 1. My second choice for Scum was Hound's Tooth and Kihraxz (x2)
    For minimal cash outlay (after the core set) you have a large ship, and 5 fighters... total cost at msrp is only $100, with the core set its only $140 If you are like me and have somewhere to get better prices the cost goes down for all of that to about $90. Not a bad start to Scum, especially considering for only 2 more small ships (Y-wing and Z-95 Headhunter) you now also have a small horde of Rebel fighters. Add the Ghost once it is being sold, and you have a good sized fleet.
    Talonbane Cobra with Expert Handling, Cluster Missiles, Glitterstim, and Engine Upgrade.... can we say Whisper/ Soontir/ any other elite pilot hunter
    All in all, I find Scum to be the most valuable faction, since so many of their ships are also other factions, a Scum core allows great flexibility to play the other factions for a minimal cost.
    Then there is the illicit upgrades, more specifically Glitterstim.... can't go wrong with Scum.
    Long live Bossk!

    Excellent video as always. Just wanted to add the Most Wanted comes with two Z-95's. If someone is going to fly the Hound's Tooth, they're probably going to want to have a Z-95 for the Nashtah Pup.

    Going back to watch this and owning all of these.
    It's confusing why FFG would make a StarViper's MSRP cost more and underperform. We'll see what the SV in the Scum Guns for Hire fixes. They updated the Heavy Syck to add 1 shield to help it survive a bit longer. And the new CROC expansion's Light Syck card is interesting. The new paint is good too. I think it's pronounced Seek it's a vicious Tatooine lizard that pronunciation seems to fit better more aggressive than Sick imho. It'd be nice if some ships and pilots had phonetic spelling in the expansion insert imho
    Proxy cards or squad builder web sites since there's over 500 upgrade cards by now and even droids that are used from expensive Epic ships. not as much fun as having the actual cards but since Autothrusters is used often for arc dodgers like TIE Interceptors it sucks you have to pay more to buy the underperforming StarViper just for that one card.

    Great points. They should sell M3-A in a three pack and IG in a two pack ; I guess you could house rule it to make it stronger somehow. It looks too cool and has great flavor with the names and cards imho.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 8 lety +1

      I strongly suspect we'll see more M3A's released eventually in some type of extra pack, with some fixes.

    I'd add that the old Core Set has obsolete booklet with rules, therefore the new core set is preferred not only for the damage deck. You could always read the rules from pdf of course, but when in doubt I often see people checking in the booklet rather that in internet.

    Thanks for this. I plan on trying scum after I settle my Rebel fleet (which might take awhile... Heha) I want to know when they'll come out with a Scum aces/veterans pack though!!

  • @MacAttack001
    @MacAttack001 Před 8 lety +2

    My only problem with the Scum Faction is the lack of big ships for epic play. I will respectfully disagree when it comes to the M3-A Interceptors. To me, they feel like the natural swarm fighter for Scum with a better maneuver dial (6 green maneuvers, 1 hard turns, 3 & 5 K turns) than the Z95. No question about how fragile they are though.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 8 lety

      +MacAttack001 I love them honestly. Loading up a few M3As with HLC's feels great... but alot of people simply don't like them at all... and any swarm fighter is typically going to be last on my suggestions of what to buy first, mostly due to the cost of buying a "Swarm" of them.

    • @MacAttack001
      @MacAttack001 Před 8 lety

      I can certainly see your point about the dollar cost of a swarm and there is no contesting the fact that a lot of people don't like the M3-A's.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 8 lety

      +jeframdenkar Problem for Armada is there's just so few options. The Imperials have only 2 ships right now. Maybe after there are 4 or so waves, it'll be more viable to give advice. For now, get a core set, and pick a faction, get 1 of each ship and you are good to go.

    I would have not started with the Most Wanted pack for Scum and Villainy as a primary faction. Especially when there are enough scum ships in their own expansion packs post Wave 7. Still if you want scum the cheapest is Core set then 2 Aggressors and a Star viper for a total of ~$140. You get the competitive brobots list off the bat then go from there. Two Scyks would be next if Scum is your primary faction to upgrade Mangler cannons to HLCs. and that is how to start scum.
    Most wanted is a conversion kit. it was made for those who already had a collection from Waves 1 through 5 to get an instant Scum squadron but as more ships are out and the meta is defined the most wanted is less of a requirement and almost as little of a necessity as the classic core set is.

  • @hectorgodinez
    @hectorgodinez Před 8 lety +1

    If you get the Hound's Tooth expansion, that gives you access to Heavy Laser Cannon. If you build the standard 30pt Laetin A'shera (M3-A: Heavy Laser Cannon + Stealth Device), it can be a really good ship. Honestly, Laetin to me seems to be the only viable pilot from the M3-A.
    Kihraxz Fighter expansion comes with Crackshot, Predator, Glitterstim, and Lighting Reflexes. Awesome expansion, awesome upgrades, awesome ship, and all four pilots are solid.
    If anyone is looking into buying into Scum, I suggest: Hound's Tooth, M3-A, 2x Kihraxz Fighter. You dodge the Most Wanted expansion. After Wave 8 comes out, you'll have access to Mist Hunter, the B-Wing for Scum, and Punishing One, the large 360 firing arc ship for Scum.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 8 lety

      +hectorgodinez Interesting you suggest skipping the Most Wanted expansion. So much good stuff in there.

    • @hectorgodinez
      @hectorgodinez Před 8 lety

      +Crabbok As good as Most Wanted is, and I love MW so much, it just comes too incomplete. It only gives you 2x Zs and 1x Y. The other three ships you still need to buy. Yes, the complete box set is amazing, but if I were starting off, I rather get full complete expansions. This is especially true once Wave 8 hits and Scum's options are widened.

    Have to recommend a Protectorate if you update the video. It's easily the most vicious jouster in the game. And it's drop dead gorgeous.

    I've just started and I have gotten 1 star viper, 2 khiraxz fighters, and 1 hound's tooth. So far I've been satisfied with all my purchases. My impression is that while the star viper isn't bad it just costs too much for what it can do compared to other ships, like compared to talonbane cobra who costs 2 less then guri and 3 less then xizor it makes the star viper look a bit weaker.

    • @JB-ym4up
      @JB-ym4up Před 7 lety

      Aldin Lewis the star viper is like the t65 xwing about 2 points too much. both ships need a fix like the tie advanced got although maybe not quite so good.

  • @stellardust6954

    Does this list still stand or do you have any other newer ones from the recent waves that would jump any of these?

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 7 lety +1

      The Protectorate Fighter is a VERY fun ship and also very self-contained.... meaning you can use all of it's upgrades that come with it, on the same ship, and be very effective. I'd put it fairly close to the top of the list at the moment. Only downfall is that it takes some practice to fly it right.

    Sad to hear that the Star Viper underperforms... Star Vipers are a ship I remember from my childhood with Shadows of the Empire.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 8 lety +1

      +Nick Parks They are still FUN, as a matter of fact I've been flying them, more lately. My main complaint is that the title makes it good... but you can't equip more than one title. I'd like to fly 3 Viragos , ya know?
