  • I hope you enjoy this trip I took to Tintagel on the north coast of Cornwall ☺️
    Campervans are very welcome. There’s a campsite within walking distance of the village, plus 4 or 5 car parks that all allow overnight parking at a cheap rate actually in the village!

    Good to see you back again Janey darling. I remember going to Tintagel as a young child, in the early 80s. We stayed in what I can only remember was a converted portacabin. But the location was both amazing and surreal, especially visiting the cave and the castle. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

      That same portacabin would probably be a fortune on Airbnb these days 🤣 I’ve not been to the cave yet, or St Nectans Glen. I definitely need to head back there soon ☺️

    Lovely video. I went to Tintagel last year with my niece, but I decided going across to the island was a bit dodgy for my super excited puppy. I love all the shops in the town. Some friends who live over that way said there are some spectacular walks in the area. Somewhere else to explore. Thank you for the opportunity to see it again.

      I really don’t know that bit of coast at all, but I’m looking forward to spending some more time over there and explore properly ☺️

    I was typing this and got to the helicopter part. Oh my goodness. Thats when we were there. Unbelievable!!!!! Top video. We stayed for 3 nights in the Kings arms car park.. Amazing stay. Pub in the eveing walks during the day. Me and my lad would walk down to the bakery for early breakfast. Fantastic family walk around the castle and down to Merlin's cave.

    Really lovely to see you out adventuring again - and to Tintagel, one of my favourite childhood locations. Yes I was a book worm, who loved reading anything about the King Arthur legend as well as west country folklore. But it must be over 30 years since I last visited, and access to the castle now looks so much easier via that stunning new footbridge, rather than the steep and rickety old steps.
    Re: country lane driving: Yes, I know what you mean, as after passing my driving test I spent my first few thousand miles hurtling around the numerous narrow back roads of Cornwall and Devon in my beloved tatty old (1966) red Beetle. If it wasn't scary enough for visiting friends to experience those narrow twisty lanes in the daytime - the feeble 6V headlights on the Beetle took things to a whole new level of panic at night.
    I can well remember one trip back to a campsite near Rock, with an exchange student from Boston, after a lovely fish and chip supper. Back then (late 70's) there were very few cars on the back roads at night. But knowing them so well you would hurtle down the seemingly narrow dark tunnel of lanes, barely lit by my single candela headlights - but ready to swerve into the next (hidden) passing spot should you see distant lights coming towards you. However what I failed to realise was the effect it would have on my normally overly confident and chatty companion. It wasn't until we reached the campsite, that I realised how quiet he had become. And when he failed to get out of the car, I thought the door must have jammed. But when I shone my torch on him, he was ghostly white from terror, and I literally had to prise his fingers off the door handle to open it. It must have taken an hour, and a very large mug of hot chocolate until the blood returned to his face. Ah, those were the days...😂
    Anyway thanks for sharing your trip, and the trip down memory lane (pun intended) - and I look forward to your next outing... 👍
    Also good to hear that some councils are now finally providing overnight parking for vans, in sharp contrast to all the bans not that long ago. ATB

      @hedgecomber  Před 11 měsíci

      Hahaha, that’s hilarious MD 🤣 I love driving the lanes at night too, it does allow for a little more speed ☺️
      Oh btw, the 4 or 5 car parks in Tintagel that allow overnight camping are all private - the one council car park firmly states no overnighters 🙄🤦‍♀️ Council Council are so short sighted, and they’re missing out on a substantial income from van owners.

    When my mother in law comes on holiday with us, she hates those lanes. Particularly the route from the A30 down to Lappa Valley railway and also the Zoar side of access down to Coverack (we've stopped in the old Coverack Headland apartments many times). I cheekily put my foot down to wind her up more :)

    Loved Tintagel, weather was gorgeous when I was there last year. Lots of good reports of that car park being very pro camper van on various forums. Good to see Myrtle back in use. As always lovely vid and thanks for the Cornwall memories x

      Cheers bud! I so wish the council car parks down here would take note. They’d make extra much needed revenue and bring in even more money for the businesses in Cornwall too.

    What a wonderful video!!! I was so pleased to come in from the field where I read to my black stallion for 45 minutes while he appeared to enjoy my company and relax. I left when he decided it was time to play, lololol. I don't play well with 3-year-olds. But I must admit I was really excited to look up Tintagel as the legend has always been a favourite of mine and I didn't know where the location was.

      @hedgecomber  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey GAD! Aww, thank you ☺️ I’ll definitely be going back as it’s such an easy place to hang out in a van, and I’d love to find more of the stories of the area. I didn’t even scratch the surface on this trip! Hope all is well with you xx

      It has been a difficult year and a worse summer but life is quieting down now and I expect a rather normal winter and time for creativity. I'm back to working on the bus again. The kitchen is about finished and I have a working bedroom but no washroom yet. No real sitting space either. I spend about a hour a day trying to read out loud to my young black stallion in the middle of his field but he only wants to play. Maybe he has ADHD, lololol. But he probably only needs exercise. The harvest is coming on strong with lots of veggies to preserve. Fortunately, planting was staggered so that it all isn't ready on the same day, lol. @@hedgecomber

    Cornish main roads… roads yes, main roads, not by many other people’s definitions, except they go from A to B so yeah ok main road! I’ve towed the caravan down too many! ;-) Luckily I learnt to drive in Somerset I.E. semi initiated! PS video of St Nectans glen (from many, many years ago) on my channel if you haven’t been and want to experience vicariously…
