    The female vocalist on that song, Arooj Aftab, is nominated for 2 Grammys this year.

  • @ullaskrishnan79
    @ullaskrishnan79 Před 2 lety +77

    Abida Parveen is the first singer I saw who kind of made me realize that a song is also another way of painting or playing with the space. Her hand movements are always such a pleasure to watch. I discovered later that she is also an elite painter and I have to say that didn't surprise me at all! She is one of the best artist alive at the moment and whatever we can hear from her is a treasure to be cherished...Have to still say though that nothing has surpassed her Sufi essence more than 'Raqs-e-Bismal'...still use that sometimes to calm myself down to a peaceful sleep.

  • @MaryyamFatima
    @MaryyamFatima Před 2 lety +289

    Honestly, I liked this first track, but 'Mehram' stole my heart this season. I don't think there will be another track of such perfection this season, although the rest of the songs have all been really good so far, but 'Mehram' is peak transcendence. The two vocalists have soooo much harmony and soul, it's the perfect combination of lyrics, vocals and visuals. I've been listening to that track non stop and can't stop singing it for the past few days. Arooj's voice is the most haunting and lingering voice I've heard in Coke Studio thus far, and thats a very powerful testament to how amazing she sounds.

    Every season has a different music producer, this year it’s Zulfiqar “Xulfi”. He also worked on Nescafe basement.
    My favorite is Rohail Hyatt. He was the producer of most of the early seasons and season 12 & 13. My second best are Ali Hamza and Zohaib kazi for season 11
    And even though they are last in the list they are awesome as well, The Band Strings has produced many great songs.
    So you can say coke studio has had 4 music producers over the year and each with a different styles
    - Rohail Hyatt
    - Strings the band. (Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia )
    - Ali Hamza and Zohaib Kazi
    -Zulfiqar “Xulfi” (current music producer)
    Each has their own unique season.
    Edit: Rohail Hyatt has most of the early seasons of coke studio on his own CZcams channel. “Rohail Hyatt.”
    The songs even have English subtitles. Miyan ki Malhaar is a great one!
    Most if not all of coke studio Pakistan on their own CZcams channel have English subs, so it’s great to watch their videos and understand the meanings. Also the ones on Rohail Hyatt own CZcams channel have English subs and behind the scene stuff.
    Coke studio Pakistan and coke studio India are different. Most of coke studio India’s video unfortunately gets blocked when people try to react. But Ki banu duniya da from coke studio India is great too.

So they have practised like this, that it became the nature of the body itself for generations. you can check anywhere in india, in music school teachers first tells us to sit cross legs then practice ragas for hours then teach us music lesson.

    India and Pakistan both have inherited the heritage of exceeding levels of classical music that goes beyond the call of border politics. It's important for both of them to continue coke studio in its own. Because that's what music is. It must calm you. Synthesised music is the culture now but even then good vocals is sought after. Still years of training is given to children right from 5 years of age.

    I being an Indian can understand it as it is a Punjabi Song.

    In Indian Punjab ,Punjabi script is different from Pakistani Punjabi.

      Dear sister there no original Punjabi that you're mentioning here Punjab itself been conquered hundreds of times starting from the Greeks Alexander the Great n so on by mayuras from south India by Turks by Aryans by Afghans By Ghandharas
      So word Punjab itself derived from Farsi ..Punj-aab meaning five rivers .
      From Baba bhule shah to back in history the original Punjabi was one language that everyone spoke
      After the batwara Indian side starting adding Sanskrit n slang type
      Ask any of your ancestors Which Punjabi is Shud Punjabi
      They will tell you it's the Pakistani Punjabi
      Go back in history and find out the Punjabi scholars and most importantly history witnessing that it was Muslims who put this language in poetry.
      Go back in history it was one Punjabi not Urdu
      Listen to the millions of songs n poetry you will realise

    I was checking the reactions of this channel. In many cases I found reactors are amazed by sitting arrangement (crossing of legs) while singing. In India & obviously in Pakistan & Bangladesh, when someone first starts to learn singing this is the usual method. Sitting on floor / or any place with harmonium, a new learner starts vocal exercise. Generally guru or teacher sits on the opposite sides of the students with the legs crossed. In music schools this is still the most common method of teaching music to new learners.

    Finally after three months, you have a chance to react on the Coke Studio. I liked this song from the new season, but it seems that now they are focussing on the visuals more, probably to get the younger audience, but as a serious music lover, I prefer the style of the previous seasons, which focussed more on the singers and the musicians, which is admired all around the world (East & West both). The Vocal Mastery is the key to the popularity of the Pakistani singers. I am not into the modern movie music from the subcontinent, with shallow lyrics and the compositions, for stupid dance moves. I like the music with the touch of Folk, Ghazal, Sufi, and Semi Classical, which touches the heart and soul, like (Tu Jhoom) . You might have already noticed that all our classical musicians use sitting positions only..... I never thought about your analysis on how it affects singing as for us it is common as in classical music sitting posture is also used for tala (tap on lap) or as a support to few instruments (Veena , Tambura)
    I am not a musical expert... above reaction is only as a music lover and own obesrvations.

    Beautiful reaction guys! been hooked on you both with your in-depth analysis and breakdown of songs is so authentic and muscially aware so amazing to see in this day and age. I'm a religious follower of your channel looking forward to more in the future. Just a quick comment something to diversify your south asian music industry knowledge check out some of the following - Mickey Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Aujla, AP Dhillon, Hardy Sandhu and as I've also noticed your interested in percussion you'd love some of the works of Tru-Skool. Some British South asian artists are also Raf-Saperra, Ezu, Manni Sandhu. Looking forward to more from Coke Studio, a personal favourite is Atif Aslam & Momina Mustehsan with Sajan Das Na. Keep the hard work up!!

    Agreed that sitting down and singing is harder from a technical view. As a Pakistani American, when I sang for cover rock bands, I used to stand up and and place one of my foot on my mic box to expand my diaphragm.

    Actually, sitting cross- legged is a very relaxing and stable posture. The back is straight but not strained, the muscle and tissues don't get stretched and the heart doesn't have to work very hard to pump the blood to the extremities of the body. This is the reason why meditating for long hours and many yoga asanas are done using this posture, as is eating food in many Asian cultures. If one overcomes the seemingly difficult looking idea of sitting cross- legged, it is the one of the best ways to do anything without straining of muscles. :)
