- Explore London’s iconic castle and World Heritage Site The Tower of London without the usual crowds. The Crown Jewels, Meet the legendary Yeoman Warders, Ravens and see the Tower like never before with this virtual walk through, See what it was like to be a prisoner inside the tower of London and so much more! The Tower of London is an internationally famous monument and one of England’s most iconic structures. William the Conqueror built the White Tower in 1066 as a demonstration of Norman power, siting it strategically on the River Thames to act as both fortress and gateway to the capital. It is the most complete example of an 11th century fortress palace remaining in Europe. A rare survival of a continuously developing ensemble of royal buildings, from the 11th to 16th centuries, the Tower of London has become one of the symbols of royalty. It also fostered the development of several of England’s major State institutions, incorporating such fundamental roles as the nation’s defence, its record-keeping and its coinage. It has been the setting for key historical events in European history, including the execution of three English queens.

@21:09: He is walking through the oldest Norman Chapel literally unchanged since its construction 1100 years ago. . Actual midevil knights would gather in that very chapel before every coronation. The knights would have a bath, celebrate Mass and pledge their loyalty to the new king.
Amazing to think of the titans of the Middle ages who've stood in that chapel: Edward the Confessor, Henry I, Edward I, William Marshall, Henry V, Richard the Lionheart. Hard to wrap the mind around the historical significance of that tiny little chapel.
My uncle was a beefeater - when our cousin got married she held her wedding in the tower
It was a wonderful experience as we had access to escorted vip tours given by other beefeaters ..
We all wore our finest and people thought we were part of the monarchy 😅... best was when the photographs were developed there was an Asian man in every picture that nobody knew 😂😂😂😂
As a former military man I was privileged, around 15 years ago, to go on an organised after hours tour of the Tower of London.
The Yeoman Warders were wearing mufti, and we were treated to a 'behind the scenes tour. We watched the oldest military ceremony in the world, "The Ceremony of the Queen's Keys". Awesome in its simplicity and history.
We went to the Yeoman Warders bar a round of eight drinks cost as many £'s, happy days. Your tour brought back some good memories, thanks 👍
oh wow thanks for watching rich
The Ravens of the Tower of London are a groupof at least six captive ravens resident at the Tower of London Their presence is traditionally believed to protect The Crown and the Tower; a superstition holds that "if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it.
oh yes I now remember hearing about that
I really hate that this tradition holds up. They've allowed the ravens slightly more freedom around the tower but still persist in wing trimming in order to keep them at the tower. Trimming itself isn't harmful but can lead to some very nasty injuries from falls and many birds have exhibited signs of distress after wing trimming.
I like mythology and superstition, I don't believe in any of it but it holds a place in history and the context of many customs so I think it's important to keep telling those stories but we shouldn't be keeping this practice alive at the cost of living animals.
@@rempanda They aren’t CAPTIVE.. they can fly and do get out of the tower enclosure on many occasions…. 🙄🇬🇧
Someone found wiki and copied and pasted.
Me and my girlfriend visited last week and this video helped me with a ''debrief''! Very interesting place and the free guided tours are amazing and the warders do a fantastic job
Glad it was helpful!
The “graffiti” looks more like a work of art; the beautiful writing and messages are so moving!
I lived in London for a short period and I always wanted to do the Tower, but never got round to it. Its truly awesome and full of historical interest, and places in there that I didn’t know about. Great video Tim👍🏻
Thanks David.. always the way when on door step
Hello Tim, those frilly round the neck things were worn by men too. They're called ruffs, and as well as being a fashion statement (back in the day, lol), they also doubled up as 'bibs' if you like. They were detachable and changed if they got dirty, save washing the whole costume. 💕
Very atmospheric, and the yeoman warders give wonderful talks! X
I've never seen the inside before. This is extraordinary!! I could have an other hour easily.Thank you for this wonderful video!! Love from Vermont
Glad you enjoyed it!
Catching up with your Walks, Tim: this was absolutely brilliant! Thank you for producing and sharing the video. Cheers!

Brilliant vlog thoroughly enjoyed it
19:22 Random bit of trivia, but the 'Shard' Skyscraper was first so-called by English Heritage who called it a 'shard of glass through the heart of historic London'.
They were referring specifically to it looming over the walls from inside the Tower of London.
Great Walk, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

yes its got a LOT of Stairs
Excellent vlog, thanks for showing us this. Definitely a must do next time I'm in old London Town.

Great tower tour Tim very interesting place visit
It sure is.. its a bit of a mind blow! how much history and how long
Visited back in 2012 good memories thank you Tim
Thanks Jack for watching
Great video! I had the chance to stroll across London Bridge during my visit to London at the end of May, but unfortunately, I missed out on visiting the Tower of London. I'm now planning to go back in late September and spend an entire day exploring the Tower. My only concern is the weather since I'm accustomed to the climate in Florida.
Just subscribed Tim and enjoyed it. Thanks for showing us around.
yay thanks Lola
That's really cool!!
That was good Tim, I really enjoyed it, makes me want to go and visit again, was a long time since I last went there.
same here and I thought might aswell do a video too ;-)
That was excellent Tim.
Thanks Michael
Fantastic insight to the tower, lots of history looks like you could spend a couple of days in there soaking up all that information.
yes of course mark I only touched a little on the history
Thanks Tim I really appreciate this tour as I am in a wheelchair so it would be impossible for me to go in there it looks great for it’s age tap on thumbs up every time
Very informative Tim, brilliant vlog, thanks for sharing 👍Best wishes to Gaby.x
Glad you enjoyed it Joey
Cheers joey

Fantastic video never been there now seen your tour I must take my boys they will love it thanks tim
You should Mick!
Less than two weeks and I'll be there!
Interesting video of times gone by,
The ravens are extremely smart birds. Some are notorious pickpockets and work together. They have also been known to lay on the grass and play dead, only to pop up when unsuspecting tourists go by.
Very interesting video, never been here,
Now that was interesting, visited many times but not inside.Love from an english lady who lives in Italy 🇮🇹🇬🇧👍👌❤️
That was so educational love finding out about the history in UK we've got some historical places in Nottingham as well
Thanks Karen
Prof. Tim..... 👍👏
lol
been there fantastic
Nice tour Tim, we went there 3 years ago, I didn't go into the towers ,but was impressed with the coins and crown jewels, shame I missed quite a lot.
Next time!
Awesome tour tim
Glad you enjoyed it PIKE! thanks for watching
wow I wish I could have come :-(
maybe you and thumper can come next time lol
Yes not long now I still think Monday onwards and it's a boy
I wish it would hurry the suspense is awful lol
Quite eerie and fascinating, this iconic British place! With your guidance, though, it wasn’t too terrifying. Heh heh. I kept wondering where Mary Queen of Scots was kept, and where poor Anne Boleyn waited for her execution…. Really enjoyed the overview that your walk through provided. As someone completely besotted by English history, I hope to visit one day! Thanks again for an excellent video. 🙏🏼
Thanks Helen
Mary, Queen of Scots was held at Fotheringay.
@@WalkWithMeTim mary queen of scots was also kept in carlisle castle for eight weeks in 1568.
@@stevetaylor7403 You bust saved me saying that.. 🤣🇬🇧
1 day we are all forgotten, or viewed as a historic message, within a passage of time.
Loved the Raven. I rescued a raven in my childhood. I taught him to fly & he flew the nest. They have black forked tongues! 🔱
Wow
Yeah heard about those princes and maybe the bones being found might not be them
The guards yeah stand at their sentry (or box in their case) posts (its a thing called either sentry duty or stag as its called in the military its when guarding like a camp or whatever they are guarding) for two hours and then think its every 6 minutes they take a number of paces either way.
Those houses are the homes of the Yeomen Warders.
Brilliant video Tim, really enjoyed it. Been a few times to the ToL myself and each time spot something that I didn’t see before. Fascinating place despite the horrors that happened there.
Absolutely
I remember once in the mid 70's my school took us on a day out ...to a castle or stately manor house it had a Dungeon under it
lol not this then
Brilliant vlog happy new year
Thank you! You too!
What a great video Tim I have not been to the Tower of London for years so it was nice to see it it has changed a lot so glad the ravens are still there thank you for the video
Glad you enjoyed it sally! if the ravens go then its bad for the royal family
I could not remember why they were there so thats why thank you for telling me
I do love your holiday videos, but I think I like these types of videos just a little more. I really enjoyed that Jack the Ripper walking tour you did a while back. Do you have a play list of all your videos like this?
Hello Tim 😊Looks really interesting. I watched the full drama about the Tudors on channel 4 a couple of weeks back, really good. It was all about Treason so they stretched them and burned their bodies and boiled them also 😮And the beheading. I never knew they only drank Wine and a weak Ale even children. They didn't drink water it was so dirty.
CIAO TIM ..... Grazie 👍👏
Ciao Sonia! Grazie per la visione
I've been there at least twice, but never saw half of the stuff you have seen. It probable wasn't open back in the 1960's. Thanks for the tour.
Great video I cannot wait to go :)
have fun
Thankyou :D
The answer is, it's not owned by BT (British Telecom). A number were sold off to other telecom operators but, as BT claims copyright for the design, only telephone boxes owned by BT can be red. The rest have to be painted in a different colour, hence the black telephone
Thanks for watching and I didn't know that 🙂
@@WalkWithMeTim it’s okay I love watching your videos and also watching the tv show about the tower so have picked up a lot of facts from there too
yes I did see that TV show!
Hopefully going in may
Another interesting video Tim. We've been watching the TV series about the tower and intend to visit once Covid over (or under control). How about one on Norwich Castle Museum once the refurb of the Norman keep finished?
Yes good idea peter
The ravens and beefeaters are fun to watch. Also a restaurant on the grounds in one of the buildings so you can eat near the head chopping. The crown jewelry’s you ride a conveyor so you move and can’t stop to stare
wow
Sai ho condiviso questo Tuo Fantastico Video con Amici, e Famigliari......
Grazie Sonia sì condividilo ovunque lol
That white collar around queen Elizabeth’s neck is called a ruff, known for its distinctive look on men, women and even children in medieval times.
Shame i will be at work so will have to watch it later looking forward to seeing the video
its not a live sally lol
Thats good then glad I won't miss it yep still at work
:-)
