Here to learn more. My uncle told me our Turley cousins, Kit Carson hid in one of their freight wagons and they smuggled Kit Carson out (from what threat or to where I don’t know) 😂 they owned a freight hauling business on the Santa Fe trail and lived near his family
One of my favorite places! I have been to the fort many times since I was a kid, the first time I saw it. There is something about the smell of Buffalo hide, and the knowledgeable folks who work there, that has the ability to let you imagine life in a much different time. A wilder, and less tamed time!
My dad grew up on a farm in Kit Carson County in the early 1900s. The county had a population of 3.2 miles per person. He jumped on a train to Chicago when he grew up and drought prevented crops. They had a well for the homestead so there were trees around the house. It was a very unforgiving land.
I am the great granddaughter of Matilda Carson. Kit Carson was her uncle, I believe. Do you know if their Native American descendants from Kit Carson's marriages to Native American women? If so which tribes? Just curious. Matilda's sons,, my grandfather and his brothers, were accomplished in construction and homebuilding.
As a Navajo I would drive there just to get a formal apology letter from any Carson because my people and other tribes deserve a formal apology because our way of life was destroyed by the U.S government and Kit Carson himself.
I met his dad when he was in his
I am related as well ❤️ So great to see our family's history. Thank you for sharing this ❤️

Wow he really looks like his Great Grandfather.
I live in the Carson Valley in Nevada. The Carson River runs through it.
I am related to Kit Carson on my mom’s side of the family
I wish, I had Kit Carson’s blood running through my veins. I live in Colorado. I need to find this place now. Thanks for posting.

That lady’s face at the end
Governor Polis of Colorado is a very ignorant man on Colorado history.
John is short in stature just as Kit Carson was (as Kit was 5’4” & 120 lbs). Kit was a great American HERO! HOOAH!

Great video. If cancel culture had their way they would probably make this man change his last name.
