- After leaving Colorado two days ago and finding several areas closed to forest fires (link below), I'm finally able to see why some consider Idaho the best kept secret in Fly Fishing...most don't need a passport! All I can say is WOW! I'm fly fishing an amazing stream in Idaho in part 21 of the 2 month road trip. The beauty of the stream and the quality of west slope cutthroat trout are incredible!
I'm living in my truck bed camper for 2 months and road tripping through New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. See the entire series on my channel or other parts below....

As an Idahoan, I appreciate the tribute you give our great state, without revealing too many details. It’s enough because the wealth is everywhere. Welcome.
Thank u, definitely a cool area full of great people. Every person I ran into was super friendly!
Couldn't have said it better.
That’s exactly this guy’s problem he doesn’t have enough followers for it to matter - would be nice if he gave out more details of some spots that he has hit - that obviously are special
@@imherenow87 If you fish Idaho and explore, you will rarely have bad days. I’m 95% sure I know every Idaho stream he’s hit, and 100% sure of the general area. @Looknfishy gives the perfect amount of info, imo. Just go to a likely stream you find on a good nap. There are fish there and the size depends on the season. You’ll do fine.
Thanks for sharing your journey. And you don’t have to give up any of your secrets. You do a good job with your hints and videos so as a detective could track down the stream.
What a fantastic stream, absolutely gorgeous. Those fish are incredible, some of the best pure strain cuttties I’ve ever seen. Enjoy your channel, keep up the excellent videos!!
That stream is so beautiful. Crystal clear water and full of GORGEOUS cut throat trout!!!
I've been binging this series over the weekend, and this one was just incredible. I've enjoyed them all, but this one... WOW! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching the series. This was definitely an incredible stream...but it gets better which is hard to believe!
Thanks for sharing Drew. You are my favorite fly fishing channel.
Thank u for the good vibes!
Wow... small stream / big fish. Heaven. Thanks for sharing.
Was a great day and much appreciated after the start I had the day before!
Dang...what a stream!! Some nice big ones in there!! Thanks for taking us along. Tightlines
That was a great day!
Way to go!! Awesome fishing with some battle scars. Darn healthy trout you got into. Thanks for sharing.
Scars to remind u of the day!
Beautiful water - beautiful fish! Thanks for sharing.
Truth!
Beautiful waters! Beautiful country! Hunted Idaho years back when fires wouldn't let us hunt the area we wanted so we had to improvise. Definitely a beautiful place!
3:13 love how that fish just nailed that dry like a depth charge, BOOM!. Your own and private Idaho provides and produces, another great little gem uncovered and explored and fished. I always enjoy tagging along for the video ride. so much too see do and explore out there. My wanderlust is in full gear with loads of inspiration to fuel my ambitions! Hike on, recon, release and remember my friend!
Now that's a trout stream! WOW!!! 😍
It was exceptional in every way!
The bend in that rod thou :) Fantastic, enjoyed seeing the hit and the fish in the pools while you are bringing them in. Favourite so far
Super clear water makes it cool to watch the takes!
A beautiful creek and some terrific trout. What a day to have on the water.
It was a special place and day!
True words Drew: be thankful for what you have.
It's easy to get out of alignment, but I try to remind myself how fortunate I am!
Love watching your videos they are so simple. Beautiful success. Thank you for sharing.
Definitely how I approach fishing...keep it simple!
Absolutely stunning water and fish! The true dream stream right here.
Definitely was!
What a beautiful take the first one was. It goes the same for the other takes😂. My friend, seeing a trout take a dry is one of the great spectacles of mother nature, thanks again for this post!
Gotta love the cutts for their aggresive eats and attention to the surface! Had some fantastic surface eats over the next couple weeks!
Talk about taking one for the team. Ouch! You are relentless and rewarded. Spectacular fishing and scenery, as we’ve all come to expect, 👏👏👏
The reward makes it all worth it! Such a great day...do it all over again in a second!
...awesome video, what an incredible stream..."tug is the drug the healthy addiction"...can't wait to see the next one...!!!
Thank u, it definitely is!
Excellent fishing. Outstanding video. Love your content and the way you show important details of presentation and hook set and landing. Really awesome fish this episode. Thanks for sharing really great stuff.
Glad to share how I do it! Was a fun day!
Wonderfull! Big fish,splendid!
Thank u much!
What a stunning stream Drew. A fight to get in there and out, but full of big healthy Trout. Your video made my day.
Glad to hear it! I definitely look for streams that require a little work...rarely disappointed in the scenery and more often the fishing!
Idaho is definitely on my list! Thanks for the morning coffee video! 🤙🏼
Coffee and a movie...I dig it!
beautiful! Having lived in Idaho for 6 years....I can agree. I make an annual trip to the west slope of the bitterroot's. Idaho is beautiful country. Thanks for sharing.
I was definitely one of the prettiest places I have seen! Can't wait to get back!
Drew, that was the most clear water, paradise looking stream to date! Beautiful fish and footage! Well Done!
Was an incredible stream and I found a few others that were equally special!
Hehe, he said Clear water.
Just absolutely incredible trout fishing and video. I could watch this video every day and never get tired of it. Looks like another trout was going after your dropper when you were hauling in one of those bulky Cutthroats around 10:30 mark.
Those westslopes were pretty aggresive had a few go after the second fly while another was hooked.
Nice job!!!I live in southern Idaho and love fishing these small rivers and creeks. 14-16 inch trout all day long.
Got so much more to see in ID looking forward to another road trip!
Awesome content as always! Keep it up Drew!
Thank u kindly!
Wow! Drew what an amazing video holy cow....looks like you got into some chunky fish! I love all the sunlight in this video....that amazing water and sunlight tho! Some of the best video yet!!!
It was a crazy fun experience! The scenery was breathtaking!
Great Trout and beautiful water!
Another outstanding video with some great fish...you the man!!
Definitely had a great day!
Those are some big fish. This is awesome to watch.
Thank u...a nice surprise for sure!
Now that's some nice trout fishing young fella. Stream fishing for trout has always been my favourite. I'm too old and crippled up to do it anymore so I really enjoyed your video. By the looks of the size of the fish it doesn't get fished much obviously. One thing true about trout fishing is the harder the spot is to fish the bigger the fish. Cheers...
Glad to share the adventure! I definitely look for streams without trails...a little work usually means low preasure!
I love this stream. This stream and others nearby were my dad's home waters in the 50s and 60s and it was on this stream where I caught my first 12-incher (on a Black Gnat wet fly I think) when I was 8 or 9 years old. Haven't fished it in a while but I think I'll give it another whirl next summer. Nice work, really enjoyed this episode!
That's awesome! I had a great time and can't wait to get back!
Frikin' awesome man!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thx dude, was a crazy fun day!
That’s a stream where dreams are made, what fantastic cutthroats and stunningly clear water!
Completely agree...some special water in a special place!
What a beautiful steam and scenery. So many people will never know how great doing what you are doing is for the soul.I have fly fished and tied flies for years and have many great memories. They can have golf I will take what you are doing.Be careful Drew since you are in the boondocks by yourself.God has given us such beauty to enjoy. Also the trout you are catching are amazing.
I tried golf when I lived in SC...not for me lol! I can't imagine a better way to spend my free time!
amazing! at 10:30, you almost had a 2 for one as something went after your dry. so green, and you found some incredible holes!
That happened a ton, I'd hook one and others would come out...never saw a big bull which I heard happened pretty often!
5:24 You can tell that fish wasn't used to being caught. I've watched many of your videos but this one was on another level!
Yea I like those crazy wild fish that don't know what a hook feels like!
The sound of the rushing water makes me excited and want to fish. Great Honey Hole!
That was a great place to camp, fish and reset from the day before! Such a great day!
What's up drew? Glad to see you ended up putting things in perspective. Beautiful stream and fish, sure was worth the bushwacking wouldn't you say? Enjoyed the video, until next time. 😀👍👍👍
Sometimes we just need a little perspective! Was a truly fantastic day!
Wow, you had to work that terrain but were surely rewarded for your efforts and smacked shin. Also, has to be the best water I have seen you fish. Maybe it was the camera and lighting angles but amazing and great fish... which I would have eaten a couple of too. Sry about the fires. Also, the joy you share at the very end, that's what it's all about. Well done and ty for taking us along for the ride.
Happy to share it! Not sure I've fished water as pretty as that. The rocks had a glimmer too which sometimes seemed to sparkle. Over all it was pretty fantastic and I was humbled that morning listening to that lady to to her family.
Unbelievable my man.. I was genuinely excited throughout the whole video for you, couldn't stop smiling !
I felt the same way as it was happening! So much fun!
What a stream, great fish just stacked in those pools
Was a terrific day!
Thats was a nice big Rainbow trout👍👍👍
That first eat was so cool!
Watching it come off the bottom was pretty incredible!
That's hilarious how you caught a fish that you broke off a little earlier. I didn't think that would be possible. Gorgeous place. Gorgeous water. Gorgeous fish.
First time its happened to me. Caught the same bow twice in the found the perfect stream vid...but never broken one off and caught it later lol! Pretty crazy!
Sweet day of fishing!
No doubt!
Drew
This has to be my favorite stream you've fished lately. The deep runs with moderate current made it perfect to see the indicator fly and know when the take was. Quality trout taken from this stream was another reason it was special!!! Keep turning out these fantastic videos for all us unfortunate anglers who wish we could be living the dream like you! Thanks for sharing
Thx Bill fortunate in so many ways. This was a fun stream and its hard to imagine I fish a few others in ID that might be better!
Great looking water! Great video!
The idaho portion of my road trip was pretty special!
I spent the eve watching a lot of your videos. I really enjoyed em. I moved to Idaho about 4 months ago. My business of 35 yrs, was lost to the riots and vioIence in another state. I figured, I'd get back into flyfishing, and camping, then spend quality time with my grand kids, showing them how to do it. I'm so grateful to be here. Although I love watching your adventures, and how you bivouac, there's something else I get from your videos. I just wanna say thanks for taking the time to show that other thing. I'm pretty sure, that's where I'm headed as well. I hope you keep going, till you live in your peace, and I feel so grateful to get to watch the journey....Well done!
Man that's a rough way to start over but gad you found a silver lining! Hope it all works out for the best!
@@LooknFishy I'm good. I'll be fishin fall and winter.
Another great video drew. Man those are some nice westslopes!! Grew up here in Montana creek fishing with my dad and uncle. Keep up the good work buddy!!.
Definitely had a great time. Be a good place to grow up!
What a beautiful stream!
It was amazing!
Wow felt everyone of those takes. Really cool. Had to laugh at the first part when your bush whacking down to the stream. Been there so many times. muttering to myself know what have you gotten yourself into. Make it down to the stream wade 50 yards and there's a trail leading right down. Doh!!
Haha...trails are for quitters...blaze your own way!
Idaho is the best. I've caught more big cutties there than any other state! Endless amounts of terrific water. Love the videos.
No doubt...I need to move lol!
Looks like a Pacific Coast steelhead stream!!......Gorgeous.
I wouldn't doubt it at one time was!
That is an amazing stream!
Truth!
Gorgeous water! Idaho is definitely one of my favorites...
Ha! Somehow I knew you’d get your flies back!
One of mine now too! I'll share the tip to catching your flies back in another video or maybe in my book lol!
Love it. I love Idaho!!
Same here!
Idaho is awesome. You're getting closer and closer to my Montana.
All Idaho mountains remind me of the Tetons.
It wasn’t even the Tetons that pushed Lewis and Clark north to Montana to find a passage in to Idaho.
What a great stream!
Definitely was and much appreciated! This part of the series is way fun!
Hi from Spain. I have been see tou your videos since long time.
Congratulations!! Fantastic places and fishing videos. I would apreciate if tou can show in your videos the flies or nymphs that you uses, it would help us alot. Thank you very much and please keep showing theses amazing surroundings
I love how green northern Idaho is. Reminds me a bit of Washington and a bit of home, but much bigger fish.
You'll hear me say how it was like fishing in a rainforest many times! Crazy beautiful scenery!
You need shin guards my friend!😂Glad u didn't get seriously hurt. Another amazing video Drew, and beautiful good sized cutthroat! Thanks for sharing👍Look forward to the next!
Haha, I really do. I see people in shorts and those fancy sandals and I'm not sure how they do it. I blew out my wading boots and had to use my regular hiking boots the last 10 days of this road trip and the lack of foot protection was super painful!
@@LooknFishyA good boot company should sponsor you! It would be a great benefit to any brand as your audience is growing fast!! I agree with the sandals, there cool but I need more protection as well. Tight lines Drew and thanks for always commenting back, I know It's a lot to manage.🙃
So beautiful place, amazing nature. Regards
Absolutley!
Beautiful!
Truth!
Love all your videos but this one is so awesome. What a great stream and some big fish on it! If you were using a fiberglass rod you would have enjoyed it even more!
Really enjoyed this video.
Appreciate it!
I could tell you were in Idaho because of the brush, haha! Doesn't get any better than that, fabulous fishing!
Was completely surprised by the terrain and foliage, wasn't expecting a rain forest!
Awesome takes on the “dry” dropper.
Super fun to watch some of those slow rises!
@@LooknFishy then they smash it, not bashful at all. I have yet to experience cutthroats on dry flies. Bucket list.
The steep banks and bush wracking to get access to that creek probably keep most people from fishing that creek. In Maine where I’m from that’s the kind of spots my brother and I would go to , to get to best fishing holes. Some nice fish in this one!
Exactly what I look for! Trails and warn paths are not a good sign!
Wow really healthy Cutties. Bet it was hard to leave that little gem
It definitely was! The next few days were pretty great!
Another awesome video. You are a fantastic story teller.
I have 2 questions:
1. How do you find the streams you fish? Not asking for you to divulge any specific secrets, but very interested in your research process and the tools you use. When fishing a new area, do you plan well in advance or the day before? How much do you rely on word of mouth? What maps do you use? Hardcopy or electronic?
2. Also more than interested in your prep and packing for your day trips. Would love to know what pack or packs you carry? Do you carry water or a filter? How many rods go on a day trip? Would love to know the typical pack out list for your day trips. Do you have a video on this topic?
Love your channel. Keep the stories coming!
Thank u! I explain the resources I use in this video and all I used on this trip. czcams.com/video/KG8BdtVuZZc/video.html
I'll share a walk thru vid of my pack soon! I usually carry 2 rods in 1 case...talk about that in the 100 fish in 4 hours backpacking trip. I carry a grayl water filter, food, and firs aid to name a few items. More detail in a dedicated vid to share soon!
You were getting destroyed haha!!! Great video man, excited for more vids!
Taking me out lol! I'm excited for this part of my adventure. Colorado was great but I had been many times in the last few years...Idaho was all new!
Wow, amazing. I don't get jealous of much, but have to admit...maybe just a tad 👍
Thank u, definitely had a great time!
Lots of nice fish
Was a top shelf time!
Best video yet
Right on, thank u much!
Nice westslopes!!!
I dig em!
Oh man, super Cutty's you caught that day...I was thinking you could use a machete & a pair of baseball catches shin guards...lol...fish on young man .
Haha, probably not a bad idea!
Those top water eats were awesome
They were crazy fun!
Hmm. Idaho. I'm planning next year's adventure. I want to stay away from the grizzlies (I did that in my younger days, Bob Marshall and Glacier and AK). Been to Colorado the past few years. I'm thinking maybe Idaho. Great vid. Nice fish for sure! Thanks for sharing. Idaho's looking better all the time.
I dig Idaho for sure! Tons of wilderness areas to explore!
Nice man!
Thank u!
Dude thats crazy 💪😎
Was a crazy good day!
151 comments 😂 we sure are keeping you busy bro !! That river / stream is one of the best I have ever seen . Just incredible . Tabasco is the shit man . Goes on almost everything lol.
Haha, no chance I can go on another trip w/o it! I appreciate every single comment! Not able to do what I do w/o this community and I'm thankful for it!
Whauu - watched all your new latest "road trip" vidoes - Man I live in the wrong part for the world (Denmark). Quality of fish and nature and your cool filming . Thanks a lot. Cheers Torben.
There have to be similar opportunities near you and public transportation might make it easier to get there.
@@georgesakellaropoulos8162 we used to have fine rivers, but we have 35.000 pairs of cormorants in this little country. They discovered how easy it was to empty rivers for fish. Now the have nearly done the same to lakes....and that goes for many other European countries- Germany, France, Schwitzerland....the balance has been distroyed by us humans :-(
That's crazy!
Fortunate for sure. Hope you guys can restore some balance!
@@Thymallus1965 Are the cormorants not native? I ask because we have that many within a 15 km. radius of where I live and they're part of the environment.
Drew, you are a trooper with all that backcountry crawling into these fishing spots, really enjoy your videos and adventures. What do you do for a living that you can take 4 to 8 weeks in the summer off to make these great adventures? Be safe and keep those great videos coming!👍
Desde españa, pamplona , navarra muy bonitos videos y preciosos rios para pescar , un saludo
Green River my man. Don't leave ID without fishing it. Nicest fly fishing experience I ever had.
Will have to add it on for my next road trip to ID!
Very nice video.
Thank u much!
What an great stream. And this is why native fish restoration is a big deal in the Rocky Mountain region. Streams produce more fish, and more healthy fish, when populated by a species that evolved there.
Definitely a cool aspect of Idaho fisheries!
Again great camera veiw as you bush wack to the water. Not a lot of easy access. I love slowly moving upstream in those situations. Great fish and water for sure. What a cool trip. Thanks for all the work editing and creating this. Labor of love right? 😂
Definitely is but I treat it like my own on online journal...I just allow it to be public lol!
Gee's I think I would hang on that stream for at least a couple of weeks! If that is representative of the fish to be had. I bet there are even bigger trout in spots. Looks like little to no real fishing pressure. I think I will have to re-evaluate my only after labor day to go out west stance. July August Sept and October, 16 weeks of wandering around is better than just 8.
I don't doubt it and there were miles of river to explore! Definitely could have spent more than a day on it!
I was showing my daughter this video and she was. Amazed at seeing the fish take the flies. Awesome video! What pack/vest are you using?
That is awesome! I have the orvis bugout backpack and chest system. Really happy with it. Tons of space which is divided, really comfortable and it's pretty customizable with several add-ons. The biggest complaint I have is lack of a dedicated water bottle pocket. The rod tube doubles for water bottle holder and rod tube...so if you pack a spare rod you don't have a place to secure a water bottle. There are several D rings to attach it but I don't like feeling it swing around behind me. Just a small complaint for a pretty great system. Will do a walk thru video on it very soon!
Awesome
Thank u!
Those were nice big cutties. That pool was really loaded I wonder if you caught some of those fish more than once Cutthroat can be really aggressive
Definitely could have...that one broke off and then I caught it a second time with my first fly still in its mouth lol!
I can’t believe I found someone taking the trip I’m planning! Too awesome, man. Living off the grid and fly fishing.
One question, I see that you mostly wet wade. What is your set up for that? Boots, wading socks?, etc. I have mostly worn waders but will need to go lighter with boots that are better for some of that hiking. Thanks! Always look forward to new videos.
I wear orvis ultralight wading boots to hike and wet wade. Good liners and good hiking socks. Love those boots...great traction, foot protection and durability. And light enough to hike in. Have recommended them to tons of people and heard back many times how awesome they are!
I live in Idaho and locals are very secretive about their fishing with good reason haha
Not just in Idaho. I was fortunate to meet a few friendly people from ID on my trip and a video coming up was a gift from a husband/wife I met on a trail. It was incredible!
Amazing 👍👍👍👍👍mantap
Haha, thx bro!
Life just ain't fair.
Keep at it.
HAHA, I hear ya!
