    Not just for beginners, more like back to the basics. I like it. BTW, I like to use a shopping basket like you find at the drug store. They have handles and they get wider at the top so they hold more.

      tray t darn..... the other day was my first kayak outing and I’ve been rigging my kayak up for over a month. I FORGOT THE BEER; 😢
      I made a list; checked everything on it; twice and slid the kayak in the water and without hesitation slid into the pilot seat.
      My first outing included a 12 mile trek. I had two waters; thats it. I knew I forgot something but couldn’t put my finger on it till reading your comment; BEER; DAMN IT! BEER!
      NOOOOOOOOOOOO😯.
      That; will never happen again. Someone needs to create a pledge of allegiance to the pureness of kayaking, fishing and beer.
      I swear; I’d find a way to stencil it on the hull. 🤣

  • @dalethebelldiver7740
    @dalethebelldiver7740 Před 4 lety

    I agree about the build being as much fun as the outing itself.
    I might suggest a thought.
    I built two bulkheads using light weight suitcase liner material. This is super lightweight and doesn’t wick water. I secured these tailored bulkhead by using tension rods I got at WM and expand then against the interior walls of the kayak.
    Now nothing slides around. Part of this reason was to stow everything possible below the water line and on the floor of the kayak.
    I keep a bare minimum on top and every ounce is an added ounce of instability to the kayak in a wake or choppy water conditions.
    A boat wake, a tidal shift, and choppy conditions all together and a top heavy kayak is going over.
    I’m even considering adding 16 pounds fixed to the hull floor. This will lower my CG create ballast and will nearly be impossible to flip or even remain in its side.

    @nickpistolakis5372 Před 6 lety

    You should get an EZ Dock they are plastic floating docks that have a kayak attachment so you can just paddle up to it and roll it on. And I think they are much cheaper than getting a wooden one!

    Would you recommend a sit in or sit on for a new guy? I was looking at the Pelican Maxim 100X Fish Kayak 10-ft sit in and im 6'4" 225lbs...

    • @cup_and_cone
      @cup_and_cone Před 6 lety +4

      That kayak is too small for you. Don't believe the 275 rating. It's based upon an older design that was 225 rated. It depends what you're doing? Fishing, touring, etc? Where are you going? Exposed ocean, calm pond, etc? A sit-on will be much easier for someone your size getting in and out, and easier to move around in. A sit-on will also do better with waves breaking over the bow, and are almost unsinkable as the hull is sealed (also easier to remount if you capsize because there's no water to pump out). A sit-in will be more stable and more sheltered, keep you drier, and generally be faster in the water. A sit-in will also have more storage potential, but harder to reach while afloat. For fishing, a sit-on is usually king. I would get a 12', because of the extra weight capacity and it will also be more stable in the water.

    • @zoffinger
      @zoffinger  Před 6 lety +3

      Agree with the other comment. Get yourself at least a 12 footer. I actually know someone who fishes from a tandem (from the middle) and it serves him well. It was around 13ft and inexpensive. Check your want-ads like craigslist for them and consider some bigger used kayaks to get yourself started..
