It's not that one can't run the blower into the turbo it's that in almost all cases you wouldn't want to do that. The thought is that the blower is not a very good compressor at real pressure ratios but the turbo is so you use the blower to feed enough boost to the engine that it acts like a bigger engine and spools the turbo quickly. It does work well. Now on banks pikes peak semi they did it the other way because the turbo they need to run is huge and the atmosphere is thin and it's a diesel. They don't throttle with air but fuel and that means the egts are also low off throttle so no energy to keep the turbo in speed. Feeding the blower through promises a minimum of let's say 30psi already in the charge pipes and intercoolers meaning when they get back on the throttle they can jump into enough fuel to make some power without melting anything due to high egts that extra boost air in a diesel is to cool combustion not to make the actual power if you will. You have a gas engine a Mazda bp series from what i can see. I'd love to see a cheap m90 feeding the engine and a gtx2876 feeding it. I think youl find no lag but keep in mind from a compound turbo guy if that blower is set up to run 1bar or 15 psi and the turbo is set to the same 15psi you won't get 30psi in the engine youl get 45psi 😅 you have to multiply the pressure ratio not add the psi. Given the injector sizes that won't live one gear 😂 and given the boost you need e85 or meth to have a chance I'd start with a standalone and 8 injectors a set that you have and a set of 2200cc to come in with boost
Just discovered you guys a little while ago and I love that you're having fun and not just destroying shit for views like a lot of other channels now days.

I really enjoy your video’s. I am not the type to ever comment on videos but felt I might add in some thoughts to consider as I have done a setup like this in the past and had to learn the hard way with damaged turbos. To find out that turbos generally don’t like to have a lot of vacuum on the intake side causing The bearings to fail. Sure before the turbo spoils it will have positive pressure on the inducer but once it starts to flow more than what the supercharger can flow it will be well within a negative pressure.Again I enjoy your videos and offering maybe some food for thought.
Definitely good to know. We do plan to add some type of valve in between the super and turbo that opens up around 5k. We were just hoping to get it to run for a bit first. Appreciate the thoughts 🤘🏽

Need a y split with a electronic gate or at least a one way valve for the turbo intake so it can bypass the supercharger when it’s spooled up. As it stands the whole system is limited to the air the SC screw can move. Ideally you want a magnetic clutch on the SC so it can engage and disengage when needed. To go the cheap route you could make a manual hydraulic clutch for it.
Love it! It sounds lean at the top end with possibly the valve timing being off? I dunno, it's a start of the engine with twin charging, tuning is always needed. I like what other commentors said about the o2, idle would be helped with tuning at speed because possible backflow will get worse at higher speeds thanks to wind speeds. A cover or a exhaust pipe heading down will help that. I have to go with gavin on that lol. With 0 compression it could be a head gasket failure, which can happen thanks to high heat and boost. Which could mean too lean but also the boost air wasn't cooled enough as well. Maybe some water injection? Or water methanol? Helps with lean out, but also you have another pump and some other injectors! Anyways, he was saying it was a hot day so it's why I'm "leaning" that way lol. If it turns out it's not any of that, it could be a combo of things. Spark plugs loose, compression rings went, hydrolock from too much fuel from o2 sensor thinking it lean. Like others said. Or valves becoming stuck as well. Unfortunately a good tear down and once over will probably help the most. Side note, from this edit after reading some comments. This is something I noticed too, but typically you would have the super charger feed in from turbo because at lower rpm and lower boost they are pretty okay. The compressor of a turbo becomes more effective & efficient at higher RPM and higher boost. It won't harm the supper charger. But! While I would love to see it, I know how much work that is to a degree. So it might not be considered worth it unless you wanted to push that boost up and drop temps from it. I hope you figure it out and still have fun with it. Love the content.
All good points!! We definitely learned a lot with this first attempt. The O2 is why I want to build a proper exhaust lol. We also want to build a secondary intake for the turbo to get extra air once spooled. There is a guy with a sweet Saturn sky with a version of this set up that we are trying to base the build off. Thank you so much for the support!
In regards to exhaust, if y'all get this thing going well and enjoy it, i think itd be worth redoing all the mounts and relocate everything for 'practicality', then do a standard exhaust setup :)
I recently built an engine. Break in oil was full of glitter. About 2500 miles in, the car still runs great, no odd noise but still glitter oil. I cut open the last 2 filters and somehow I didn't see any metal in them! I'm just sending it until the issue shows itself or goes away!
I think some valve between supercharger and turbocharger should be installed to let freeflow air into turbo when that spooled up (valve controlled by RPM or/and pressure by ecu). Or check is it positivie pressure present between supercharger and turbocharger to make sure that supercharger is not choking turbo when it spool up. Supergarger with electric clutch sould free up some power when turbo takes up boost generating.
Just to add, you probably should have the turbo first in line, allowing it to pull in as much air as possible before feeding that to the supercharger as the supercharger will only flow a specific amount of air related directly to the speed at which it is rotating, which then won't allow the turbo to do anything as it will create a vacuum between its inlet and the outlet of the supercharger
Im building a twincharged lancer. Im pretty certain the turbo chould be feedibg the supercharge not the way you guys have it. Roots style blowers multiply a fixed amount of air pet rotor per rotation; it will be a restriction for the turbocharger when trying to "pull" more air than the fixed amouny of air supplied by the supercharger.
The next step for us was to build a second intake for the turbo to pull more air from at high rpm. Based on a very cool build some guy did with a Saturn sky.
Don't you need some sort of valve for the turbo intake to be able to feed itself from the atmosphere when the supercharger can't supply the air volume the turbo can suck at high rpm ???
Technically yes, however most people we have researched did that as a second stage, just running it without that extra stuff first. The goal is to do that eventually
This is awesome. Sucks that it blew but it definitely needs to be tuned. Not sure what you guys are running for engine managment if anything at all, but you should really consider a microsquirt ecu. They're on the budget end of Standalones but are still very capable. Also, has an engine swap ever been considered for this build? A 2.0/2.3/2.5 Duratec/MZR swap would be a great budget option. The 2.5 unopened is good for 350-400hp and they can be had for fairly cheap. For a trans a good option for that miata would be the 2004-2015 miata NC 6 speed, they came with a 2.0 duratec. Awesome content, keep it up!
This is deff rad bro ... check into the twin charging cuz every time I seen it they have a bypass and a second tb so as to not over spin the supercharger with to much turbo boost ... idk 💯 tho so I say Che it out cuz this is deff rad and has insane potential my brethren ... and get it tuned a lil bro like a speedyefi and some tunerstudios is pretty simple to Learn and tune (I have it on mine with a 4849g (g25-550) and run 30-34psi ).. anyways peace and love bro keep it rad stay safe and build on..l8z famz and keep having fun guys
An interesting compound setup to say the least, i have run a twin charged setup before but bypassed the supercharger at certain rpm to only run on the turbo but what your doing isn't impossible but need a good way to manage the boost an as others say a good tune....The saying why not right :)
You would have better results if the turbo was before the supercharger. With twin charging you always want the larger unit first, that way it can flow all the air needed, provide some boost, and then the smaller unit further compress the charge. Basically if you are not force feeding the small supercharger (good for 150hp) it can’t flow the 350hp the turbo is capable of
The typical way to plumb a compound twincharged system is: Air filter/maf/bov/turbo/throttle body/supercharger/bpv/intercooler/manifold You can even go as far as to use the supercharger bypass valve to shut off the supercharger and let the turbo take over for increased power to the wheels. I did this by using an aux channel on my boost controller that opens a solenoid that supplies vacuum to the bpv actuator, works good for valet mode too because the turbo spools very slowly without the superchargers assistance.
You guys are having too much fun 😂 On a serious note, when twincharging you run them the other way around, the turbo should be fed by atmosphere and feed into the supercharger, your total airflow is limited by the first thing in the chain, same reason compound turbos use a large turbo feeding into the small one
Chin up! Awesome you guys are just trying stuff. Has been entertaining viewing so far. Would have been keen to see the genuine SC14 run on its own before adding the turbo as it would push miles more air than the chi14. Give the motor a few more clicks before sending it, and dont rely on the auto tune to save it. Theres quite a few people that will remote tune out there and might do it just for fun.
tuning and ring gap is importiant, when it cuts like that under load its normally from not enough fuel, not enough fuel = lean burn, lean burn = heat, heat = pinched ring, pinched ring = kaboom
I like your channel a lot. I have one suggestion. You in the pink shirt. When you are calmer and more genuine it seems much better. But when you add excitement that isn't natural, it is off putting. Just be yourself and that is much better my friend. Such as when you are explaining that there aren't big chunks in the motor. You are way more easy to listen to and entertaining. It could just be me but when you are "acting" more excited it just comes off as disingenuous and you don't have to do that at all my friend. You guys are totally entertaining as yourselves. Good luck ok the miata adventure and i hope you guys continue to grow. Good stuff here.
I think you need to make the gab ring bigger, when the boost is high, the engine will be hotter, if the gab ring is too close, the piston will break easily, because the piston ring has expanded and meets end to end of the ring
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have thought about doubling up for yeeeeears!!! I fucking love this, yall. Tks. All the *cool* car guys always sht on the idea, but they are obv all punks. (Plus Empiricism means we build up our own Theories by shtting on other's Theories, rather than bolstering our own Theories)
It’s pretty quick, makes 20psi by 3500 and 30psi by 4500. With practically no back pressure! I may swap to a smaller gt35 but I’m afraid it would spool too fast and huck a rod lol
you have done the twin charging backwards, the turbo inlet is meant to be open to the atmosphere, the turbo outlet goes into the inlet of the supercharger and the supercharger goes to the intercooler.
Those pistons seemed to get VERY hot you can tell by the white spots. if you want to convert to speeduino, i would offer myself to help, i also have an extensive guide on DIY tuning the ECU on my channel that covers everything you need to know!
@The Rad Factory now use a turbo on exhaust at back of car let exhaust flow strait through turbo use compressor side to feed stainless steel exhaust tube with rocket nozzle and feed with oxygen and diesel fuel or propane or whatever fuel
Remember, build, THEN tune, then test drive. Not build, test drive, break it, fix it, tune it.
😂😂😂 we did do a basic tune and several warm up start up tunes and that test drive was supposed to be a chill start to the tuning so we had data under load…. Unfortunately Dylan only has one setting 😂 WOT.

Yes I’m this
@@claudedottin1312”I’m this”
What???
@@fastinradfordable 😂 hol up lemme cook
Don't you need some sort of valve for the turbo intake to be able to feed itself from the atmosphere when the supercharger can't supply the air volume the turbo can suck at high rpm ???
Technically yes, however most people we have researched did that as a second stage, just running it without that extra stuff first. The goal is to do that eventually
Thanks! Just grabbed some merch 🤘 stay Rad
you're a legend!
@@The.Rad.Factorythanks so much for the merch. I love the designs totaly awesome 👌
Lolll Wheeey to much Foreshadowing for *something* to not happen lololol
I might have jinxed us lol
I do like me a nice pair of Toyotas!
😂😂
😂😂😂
Definitely on a standalone, I forget which one.
Insane amount of power🤣🤣🤣
So good !!!
Thanks!!
Thanks!!!
An interesting compound setup to say the least, i have run a twin charged setup before but bypassed the supercharger at certain rpm to only run on the turbo but what your doing isn't impossible but need a good way to manage the boost an as others say a good tune....The saying why not right :)
using something that you've had sitting for a year is more budget friendly than buying a new something of any price. hoping this goes well
Down pipe for sure, im over hood dumps.
One of us! One of us!! 😂
When I see hood dumps it makes me think of the sweet smell of burnt clutch ,blow-by vape juice, and black ice air freshener....
You would have better results if the turbo was before the supercharger. With twin charging you always want the larger unit first, that way it can flow all the air needed, provide some boost, and then the smaller unit further compress the charge.
Basically if you are not force feeding the small supercharger (good for 150hp) it can’t flow the 350hp the turbo is capable of
The goal is to build a second I take for the turbo to pull from once at revs. Just blew it up before we got to start lol
The typical way to plumb a compound twincharged system is:
Air filter/maf/bov/turbo/throttle body/supercharger/bpv/intercooler/manifold
You can even go as far as to use the supercharger bypass valve to shut off the supercharger and let the turbo take over for increased power to the wheels. I did this by using an aux channel on my boost controller that opens a solenoid that supplies vacuum to the bpv actuator, works good for valet mode too because the turbo spools very slowly without the superchargers assistance.
You guys are having too much fun 😂
On a serious note, when twincharging you run them the other way around, the turbo should be fed by atmosphere and feed into the supercharger, your total airflow is limited by the first thing in the chain, same reason compound turbos use a large turbo feeding into the small one
Lots of folks have said that!
We definitely should have tried the real sc14 by itself 🤷🏽♂️ next time
I think the full exhaust out the back would be nice to have on it!
Agreed then I can move the wife and sensor as well
Best Briggs and Stratton upgrades
😂
tuning and ring gap is importiant, when it cuts like that under load its normally from not enough fuel, not enough fuel = lean burn, lean burn = heat, heat = pinched ring, pinched ring = kaboom
We shall see! We are pulling the head this week and doing an autopsy
I have to admit, I found exactly that the hard way myself 👍
That belt is gonna slap that pipe 🤣
Also, it's referred to as a hater pipe 🤣
The belt is looser than I would like after seeing the footage
@@RadFactoryGav unfortunately, even tight belts move a bit. 1/8 inch is nothing, as you know 🤣
I like your channel a lot.
The rings were gapped for boost idk if that was the issue.
Glad you liked it! Hopefully we will have it running proper soon
Thanks!
you rule!
👍
And also that sounding like it doesn’t wanna start was it being down a hole if it don’t turn smoothly then it’s blown and or hurt
Exactly! Was not surprised to see cylinder 1 not getting any PSI
If you guys have any questions hit me up. I have a twincharged Sti engine m90/gt45, so I’ve done a lot of research on how to make it all work.
Heck ya! That sounds like it would be crazy fast!
It’s pretty quick, makes 20psi by 3500 and 30psi by 4500. With practically no back pressure! I may swap to a smaller gt35 but I’m afraid it would spool too fast and huck a rod lol
I love you guys
Thank you!!
You should buy a Temu turbo kit and put it on 😂😂 it would make a amazing video
😂😂
you have done the twin charging backwards, the turbo inlet is meant to be open to the atmosphere, the turbo outlet goes into the inlet of the supercharger and the supercharger goes to the intercooler.
We have seen it both ways
Definately turbo into the charger
Keep going men let’s gooooooo
Gotta keep trying! Lol
Those pistons seemed to get VERY hot you can tell by the white spots.
if you want to convert to speeduino, i would offer myself to help, i also have an extensive guide on DIY tuning the ECU on my channel that covers everything you need to know!
we are running speeduino! I'll check out your channel!
@The Rad Factory now use a turbo on exhaust at back of car let exhaust flow strait through turbo use compressor side to feed stainless steel exhaust tube with rocket nozzle and feed with oxygen and diesel fuel or propane or whatever fuel
😂😂😂😂😂😂
