Folks, we are located in Oakland, Ca.
Hello, this video is packed with helpful information on avoiding color differences in your stucco walls applications of acrylic finishes.
Stuc-O-Flex finish vs. Paint, New Acrylic Stucco over an old acrylic finish
Folks, we are located in Oakland, CA.
FYI, folks, here are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

We are applying a new acrylic stucco finish over an existing acrylic finish coat to avoid ghosting and or bleeding. Unfortunately, you will see the old patchwork under your new finish if these rules or instructions are not followed.
We are applying a color coat over a color coat, so to avoid ghosting or bleeding, you must pay attention.
Young plasterers, you can watch this video and learn, or learn by going back and spending another day correcting the same job you just did due to not understanding this critical information in this step-by-step video.
My personal preferred Acrylic stucco is Stuc-O-Flex Elastomeric Acrylic Finish.
It's the top brand in the country. It can be applied over a basketball and bounced and still will stay on. the absolute best.
Notice we risked our lives applying this acrylic finish. The last thing we want is to go back and do it again, but this time for free.

Kirk your videos are great. One quick question. Can you apply a new coat of a La Habra color coat over an existing one just by hydrating the wall. Or do you have to apply bonding agent like Weldcrete before applying the new color coat to the existing color coat?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  Před 6 lety

Good Morning Global Dude, good question, depends, if your existing finish is porous and your new is also then yes, these two will mechanically bond by suction, however your
existing wall must be really clean as nothing adheres to dust, plus, I would advise you to hydrate the existing wall well, for a better bond.

***** Morning Juassicback, that kind of talk gets you into the bestest and bestest pal club.
Actually if you have help that understands the process and have mastered the tools mixed with a general knowledge of what the heck needs to be done and why, it's not so hard at all in fact it's sort of fun, good sound health play a real role too, our trade day in and out, a fella requires 8 hours of deep real sleep with none of that tossin and turnin and worrying about goofy stuff that don't amount to nothing.
Best wishes and thanks for the bone.

David Termini Evening Dr. Dave, I have applied color plaster inside many times.
If you add colors to veneers they don't have to be painted, but man it's tough to clean the walls.
I have applied colored stucco to a few ceilings as these will never have to be painted plus
if you use imagination a person can create cool textures with color patterns.
Also I have many friends in the plastering trade who have applied colored stucco to their walls,
this is sort of goofy because if rub any part of your flesh on it as it's like sandpaper.
Best wishes, and have a good evening.

    Hi Kirk,
I'm very glad I watched this video. I had no idea I could change the color of my house with a "color" coat of stucco. I am in the midst of a large DIY remodeling project, and part of the job will be to remove the rough finish in the front and replace it with the same kind of finish which surrounds the rest of the house. My wife calls the front finish "chunk monkey", and I know there's an industry standard for it, but I don't know what it is. Whatever it is, she doesn't like it, and therefore, neither do I. I'm sure you understand my reasoning here.
Be that as it may, my original plan was to strip the front of the house and re-stucco with a "knock down" finish, which is what is on the rest of the house. Then I was going to paint the whole house in a different color. However, there are a number of defects in the existing stucco, so if there is a way to repair those defects and apply a color coat with the color of our choosing, well, that is the best of all worlds. I get the idea that paint is not as long-lived as a color stucco finish. I was just unaware that you could apply a color coat over existing stucco.
If you're interested in what I am doing, please check out my blog at frankshomeromedolingjourney@wordpress.com
    Thanks, again, for your post!

Frank Borik Hi Frank, yes you can apply a color coat over a color coat, without a bonding agent.
But the existing color coat maintenance free cementitious finish has to be pressure washed extremely well.
Nothing adheres to a dusty or dirty surface, not for long anyway.
This video explains just a bit of information on the subject.
I have done a video with a color coat over a cementitious color coat too.
But just so you know if you paint a wall with defects the paint will enhance those defects, however a color coat is 30 to 50 times thicker than paint, why? Because it has sand in it.
But this sand in the color finishes usually covers even the bad defects in walls.
To show the wosres case scenario of defects view the video below, which were blending in well.

Hi Kirk, can you tell me what you think about Allegro coating for rejuvenation of 10 year old stucco that has a lot of spalling? I am having a contractor do this for my home in New Mexico. He has quoted me $10,000 for parapet repair and allegro coating of my 2400 square foot home. I am a single woman, no prior experience with this, sometimes I feel like contractors will take advantage. For comparison, he quoted $15,000 for a full restucco. Thanks so much! Love your videos.

Howdy Nina, excellent question, best way is to wait for a rainy day, after 30 or more hours of constant rain, take your water hose and use full force with just the force of the water with a nozzle, most dirt should come right off. "the rain just keeps it wet, it will not clean it"
If you get a bit wet, that's even more fun.
Similar to washing a cooking pot with day old dried oatmeal, try to wash it after it set overnight it's a lot of work, allow this same pan sit with water in it overnight almost rinses clean the next day without scrubbing, using the same principal.
Let a stucco wall also, presoak.
      Best wishes,

david mccartney Hi David, real pebble dash is extremely rare, in fact it's so rare I cant even find any Durite, Cantebury Sper here,
Thats the stuff that adheres so well to the brown coat as its made from calcined flint.
You guys in Glasgow probably use it all the time.
In 35 years I have only did a home once, I have seen a few homes that needed patchwork but had to decline as I couldn't find the proper aggregates.
Almost forgot, yes, this finish is popular here in the U.S..

EJConrad Hi Conrad, the base is usually shotcrete with additives, mostly portland cement,
The finish coats are very similar to the acrylics used on homes ut are completely waterproof not water resistant, these products are similar to stucco-flex completely elastomeric, except specifically engineered for swimming pools.
I would google swimming pools finishes,

I started the Harvoni treatment yesterday, and today am actually feeling better already, but as the juicing went I felt better for awhile then the pains, fatigue and all the rest of the symptoms come back, so the fact that today I'm feeling better makes me uncertain if it's a placebo effect.
The majority of my thoughts I keep a positive mental attitude, therefore I'm thinking and feeling I will be cured.
Me, I'm easy, I'd take half the pain and fatigue and keep the hep c I would still consider the treatment a success.
