The 40 db max is only when the MM is selected. With MC low there is 63, 65, or 67 depending on the 36,38,40’gain selected. So there is plenty of gain. There impedance and capacitance adjustments are only for MM. The loading for MC is determined if you choose MC high or low. The cartridge impedance and the output of the cartridge determine which MC setting is chosen. If the cartridge has low output 2 ohm them MC low is needed. If the cartridge impedance is > 40 ohms and the output > 0.5 mv then MC high is best. This is an excellent phono stage. It needs supporting gear of a similar quality to get the most from it.
@@user-hp7lm1sb9o certainly VPI and Pass Labs are first rate gear. I am also considering to get the EQ500. I think it’s a fine piece of equipment and will be flexible into the future. It certainly can manage a wide variety of cartridges. I have an E Glo S and it is also very good but I’m wanting the flexibility to have more than one tone arm and not need multiple phono stages. Good luck on your journey. Luxman is a reputable manufacturer and has been doing it a long time.
I have the Luxman EQ-500 connected to my Luxman L-509X. Very happy with the sound.
