    I am going to shop for a Brad cut plug after watching this video, not because it works well for Moo, but because he made a heart with the 2 barbless hooks 😉

  • @shingo_y
    @shingo_y Před 2 lety +5

    These are also my favorite in the salt up in Washington for salmon. The two differences when I rig them. And one extra tip.
    1) I make sure the hooks are pointed in different directions when tying them.
    2) I don't secure the hooks with the rubber band. I add three small beads and let the hooks hang free. I think this allows the brads to spin more freely. I've never lost a rubber band while fishing.
    3) Buy a piece of rubber surgical tubing and keep it in your box. If you lose a rubber band. Just slice off a rubber ring from the surgical tubing and you got yourself a new rubber band. A single piece of tubing will serve as hundreds of rubber bands. I rarely lose them but will occasionally replace them.

    • @freddiegonz4113
      @freddiegonz4113 Před rokem

      Hey brother what size diameter of surgical tubing will work for this lure? Thank you

    • @shingo_y
      @shingo_y Před rokem

      @@freddiegonz4113I only run the smaller brads mini cut plugs for salmon. I checked and I bought 3/16” outside diameter (1/8 inside diameter) tubing. If you are running the regular sized cut plugs you will wanna go up in size.

  • @littlegoobie
    @littlegoobie Před rokem +2

    yes. the only rigging that works well on the brads cut plugs is to run the hooking rig through the elastic banding. If you don't do that you lose the band when the lure opens as the fish starts thashing around.
    Your favorites are the same 2 that have been the highest producers for me also. The apex hotspot lures are so simple and work very well. Even the ones that are glass clear plastic in "UV" colors work well for me. I like the 5" but they're getting hard to find so i've got some 4" also.

    Thanks for the tutorial on Brad's. We usually just cut up herring the old fashion way but this seems a lot easier and a lot less mess to deal with also the action is consistent. Will definitely give that a shot next year in Alaska.

    Excellent information. I had not seen this lure before but it obviously is a very good one for salmon. Thanks for showing how you rig it and for posting. Much appreciated.

  • @Tjmcna
    @Tjmcna Před 2 lety +1

    Moo…Another way to rig is to not use the small line keeper on the back of the bait and use a bobber stop and a plastic bead on the line to keep the hook behind the bait and stop the hooks from going in the garage. Been using these for years like this and it’s been great. You can adjust the hook distance behind the bait on the fly and not using the rear line keeper makes the bait spin even better.
    Love all the videos! If you get up to Washington with your kayak, look us up! 😉

    I was hoping to see someone use them locally in CA on a yak. Thanks!
    We used them in Alaska and loaded up on Silvers and Pinks plus a few Kings.
    The only difference was that we stuffed the scent chamber with canned tuna in oil and Procure dried krill. The bite was nonstop.

    Do you use a braided line at all? When you are fishing, are you using a downrigger? If you don't have a down rigger, do you have recommendation on what to use to get your bait down to the certain depth? Thanks

    • @MooMooOutdoors
      @MooMooOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I use braided mail line but I use Mono/Flouro top shot and all my leaders are either Mono or Flouro. I used to use a downrigger but not anymore. Unless I need to go down very deep, I use either a weight (8oz) or Deep Six Diver.

    I’m rigging a few of these to try alongside Meat Rigs on Lake Michigan. Instructions show multiple ways to rig with one being very similar (and simple, bonus) like you rigged but with a single bead between the back section rigging holes. Not at the hook section. Does anyone know if there’s a benefit to this? Seems unnecessary. Thanks for the video and to anyone who may help answer my question

    • @MooMooOutdoors
      @MooMooOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      The reason I run the line through the rubber band is to prevent from losing it. The hook keeps the rubber band from coming out. After many fish on and strikes, I haven't yet to lose one. You can also but just the rubber bands from Brad's and I also heard people using cut small section of rubber tubing similar size diameter. Hope this helps.
