I have fished all my life and joined kayak fishing communities in recent years, and I'm having more fun than ever. how long did it take until you were comfortable doing this? I've got a kayak similar to stealths, but my confidence isnt high enough to try
You get pretty comfortable after a handful of launches when surf is pretty small like this. Bigger surf still gets me a little nervous. Landing is what scares. When surf is big enough during landing, I put my gopro away to keep it from losing it or damaging it.

Why braid to mono to the swivel and not braid straight to the swivel?
I like having a stretchy line and/or slow action rod when trolling for halibut. And for abrasion resistance. Braided line breaks easily when rubbed against rock and reefs when in the Ocean. trolling for halibut.

same thing happened to me but different ending, the butt just jumped off and swimmed away, it was the biggest I've caught, probably over 35, I now use the gaff and then a slip off harpon to secure the butt
