    Saviors is what Father of all... SHOULD'VE BEEN in the sense of capturing different and similar styles from their past and the music THEY love. Emo, a cowbell rocker, ballads, pure punk, power pop. So much color. Songs structure is top-notch. This time it's executed very well and I'm here for it! As a whole work of art, this is definetly their best in a long long time.

    you will never believe what happened to me yesterday. for you this might be nothing, but for me this really is incredible. Billie Joe replied to a comment of mine on facebook. not once, but twice. i am a proper hardcore Green Day fan since 1994...30 years. And i have to be the biggest Green Day fan is south africa. Taking to where i am in the world, getting a reply from my life hero is like super amazing!!! My whole family got up and started celebrating. just thought i share that little experiance with you

    This is the best review of this I'm seen so far, totally nailed all my thoughts on the album. I really liked the more punk stuff like 1981 and Coma City which I think should have been the singles but it's all good. Who would have expected Green Day after their 20 year slump to come out with a banger like this and it seems like the critics and the fans love it.

    Why they Mentiong " Tiktok" in this song : Because the song is about " Today's American Dream is Killing Me " Before the American Dream was about to challange yourself, have a great life , now is about doing Tiktok Videos, instead of even dream to be a movie star, now is just a Tiktok Star, and probably how Tiktok people are more " wisdom" than Scientist and Doctors, all these " Medicine Hacks " and " Tiktok Challenges " end up killing People. In other words, The American Dream Is Killing Me

      Yes, after keep watching your video and discovering that they also has "Instagram"on their lyrics, YES AGREE , sounds extremely weird. But seems that is the only way to reference today's Love/Interesting ways of communication.
      When back in the day these songs would write about Love Letters/ Phone Calls, Radio Dedications, now these days to make new generation be "identified " with it, probably need to reference today's method "Social app" affections hhh. Damn bro, while I'm writing this all I can hear in my head is "The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan" . @@thepunkrockreview

    Glad I found your channel. I was an 80s punker, but Kerplunk! changed me and I was ridiculed, but I never looked back. I am approaching my 20th Green Day show, and taking my 13 year-old daughter to her first (Seattle) in September, then my 67 year-old mon to her first (Portland) two days later. It is going to be a spiritual experience, fo sho. If you haven't seen them live, they are going to blow you away in Austin.
    Bobby Sox is my favorite so far, boppity bop, party anthem. I had a similar reaction to Father to a Son - daddy issues abound! Mine is a POS, and (like you?) I am totally winging it with my own kid.

    And completely unrelated but tou talking about father to a son made me well up. Sounds like a beautiful song and like dilemma can be applied to any situation. Everyone is a father or a son. Everyones dad makes a promise to their kid... to never let anyone hurt the etc.

    Hi from Ireland. Father Of All Humdingers ranks very high on my list also - no overarching theme, just power pop perfection. Rooted in 50s/60s rock'n'roll & pop just as much as in 70s/80s punk. A short, sharp shock, one that keeps me revisiting it.
    I recall reviews at the time wondering was this a purposeful F-you to record company with the "proper" album coming soon. Divisive, absolutely. I love it, and if the new one is Father....plus a tad more socio-politico, then they've Made Green Day Great Again! M-GD-GA!

    In my opinion this is Green Day’s best work in terms of lyrics and musicianship. It’s Green Day for grown ups. Moved me deeply. Dookie was great when I was 15 because it was written for 15 year olds. But now that I’m in my 30s and a Father dealing with the economy, depression, day to day grown up stuff and mass division this album is written for the dookie fans that are now adults. We have aged and so have Green Day. It’s perfect.
    Also Billie’s guitar solos are FANTASTIC! So Chuck Berry and Journey in style.
    Of the singles dilemma is my personal favorite. It perfectly encapsulates how it feels to be the main character at a bar and the dangers that come with that. I play Music for a living and it is so challenging not to just please everyone when you’re riding the high of being the main character at a bar. And it is so easy to fall into the rabbit hole of being a people pleaser. And of course the easiest way to do that is through alcohol. But it can take such a hard turn. And leave you in a place you never wanted to be. That song hit me so hard.
    My favorite song is good night Adaline with a father to a son being a close second.
    Both Musically and lyrically moved me to tears right in the middle of the shop and I didn’t even feel embarrassed.
    This is truly something special .

    I went to a listening party too. Overall it’s a solid album. There were only two songs ( corvette summer and living in the 20’s) I didn’t like but I’ve never been a fan of when they try to sound “ garage rock “ for lack of a better term. I’m sure others might like them. I prefer their poppier, melodic riffs. 1981 is probably my favorite. It’s the most pop punk, melodic song on the album. I wish more of the album was that style. I was surprised at how slow the rest of the songs were. Great melodies, but slower tempo. Having said that, “Fancy Sauce,” while being a slower tempo song, the melody is amazing. Been a huge Green Day fan since 1994. I’m hoping to win your giveaway. This band changed my life. As far as my favorite song out of the four new singles. I’m going with the One Eyed Bastard- It sounds heavy for a Green Day song in parts which is cool but they also combined it with some classic Green Day sound. parts of the song remind me of minority off warning and there’s other parts that remind me of Holiday off American idiot. Plus, the chorus is catchy as hell, and the lyrics are great. So excited for this new album.

    I am stoked to hear this album on repeat when tomorrow comes around. I absolutely love all 4 singles, all are great. Ironically enough, Look Ma is my favorite single out the 4 as well lol… Which is crazy cause I didn’t care too much for it the first listen and felt filler to me. But damn, I was wrong, after a couple listens, i absolutely love it. This song definitely feels like a song that could’ve been on insomniac. One Eyed Bastard too much when I first heard it, probably cause I thought it sounded to close to the Pink song, but damn, I absolutely love this song now after a couple listens. I went the nearest listening party in my area the other day and heard the album for the first time front to back as well. I was overall pleased with what I heard, I wasn’t crazy about what I heard, but honestly that was probably cause I wasn’t paying too much attention cause I was talking to people and looking around at the vinyl and other things they had there. There was some that I heard that I liked but I can’t quite remember which ones I heard that I liked. I can’t wait to give it a thorough listen when it drops tomorrow! Great review man!

    Out of the singles so far. All of them are on fire and on par. The album is amazing, 8/10
    Coma city is awesome. Living in the 20s hits hard. Father to a son hit me hard also. I've had a weird relationship with my dad, never got a single promise or Xmas present, but would see him occasionally maybe twice a year and one night my brother screamed at him saying why can't you just love him (meaning me) and my dad's reply is I dont know how!! So father to a son hits in a way as billies saying every word I've always wanted to hear from my father. Love the channel buddy.

      @Karlos.Fandango. Před 7 měsíci

      Btw the album is a straight up mix of every album since American idiot. I even heard the guitar riff that starts 99 revolutions at one point in the album. It sounds like the best of the sounds they have created since AI including the trilogy which I appreciate coz as diluted as that trilogy was there was some great tunes and sounds from that project that shouldn't be left to rot. I think if you took the song father of all and slapped it on this album and then deleted the FOAMF album then that would be spot on perfect. But FOAMF was made to release them from the shitty contract they were in so for me that album has a meaning when it comes to green days punk side as the album was a fuck you to Warner Bros.

    My favorite single from this album is Dilemma, not only from the point of view of the music but because of what it means to Billie Joe. I have been listening to Green Day since 2006 (when I was only 3 years old). One of the earliest memories of my life is listening to their live album Bullet in a Bible from 2005 on Sundays when my grandfather used to come home for lunch. I used to steal his hat and act like Billie Joe on stage with a little fake toy guitar. Then growing up in my childhood I witnessed in first person the publication of 21st century breakdown (which clearly is very dear to me) and the trilogy. I simply loved Green Day since the beginning of my life and then after only "two" albums, I was told that Billie Joe had go into rehab, the world collapsed in front of me as a 10-year-old, I seriously thought I would have never hear anything else from them because of this. Hearing Billie openly put his troubles into a song like Dilemma hit very hard. Sorry for taking so long to comment, I just got a bit emotional.

    Looking forward to listening thru the whole album again Friday. Really wasn't a fan of ANY of the pre-release singles (barring Dilemma), but the full album had me pleasantly surprised. Corvette Summer & Saviors were duds imo, but i think the real standouts are Strange Days, Suzie Chapstick, and 1981. Also, production felt pretty solid across the whole thing as far as I could tell.

  • @mewgiah8057
    @mewgiah8057 Před 7 měsíci +2

    Saviors is also kind of overrated. Is it better than their last 4 albums? Absolutely. But it’s not anywhere as good as American Idiot or even the highs of 21st Century Breakdown.
    People forget how Prog American Idiot was in terms of the songs constantly shifting and having multiple sections. The album was also full of bangers and almost has no boring tracks.
    Saviors in comparison is much more simple and stripped back. It has some great tracks but it also has a handful of “that was alright” songs. So I think its biggest flaw is that it’s kind of too safe in parts. And even the good songs aren’t super exciting.
    Like i know people were burnt out on Wake Me Up When September Ends due to it being overplayed on the radio. But nothing on Saviors approaches that songs emotional build up and guitar solo in the back half.
    That might be a bad example. But my point is even songs like Wake Me Up had really memorable moments. I don’t really feel that on Saviors.
    It’s overall a really solid album. Their best record in almost a decade and definitely a return to form. But i also don’t understand the hype and people saying this is their next American Idiot. It’s not.
    Side note this album sounds good production wise. I’m glad they got rid of the overly robotic production that has been plaguing them for years.

But when dilemma came out, man it just took it to a whole other level for me. When I heard this song for the first time and really listened to billies lyrics, I really understood what this song must have meant to him and what he had been through. I also really love the bridge to this song and it's really cool for a green day song to be in drop d. This track really put into perspective what the new album was going to be for me and what it will mean for the band going forward.
