    About that one Fancy sauce line, I don't think that's Billie saying "I don't watch cartoons, I watch the evening news" to sound smart, I think he's more likely saying the evening news are so ridiculous it feels like watching a cartoon, which is why that's one of my favorite lines on the album. To me it fits as the closer to the album, so theatrical!
    Also, gotta love those transitions Joey makes between the songs, pure radio talent.

      It’s honestly impressive how smooth and seamless his transitions are, and that’s a completely unbiased opinion because this definitely isn’t Joey writing this reply in third-person!

      and for Father to a Son, like im sorry but its my favorite on the record. i understand who says it doesnt fit on the album but they give us a song like that now and then. so much people could say that Good Ridance doesnt fit on Nimrod but there you have it, i love it and its one of their anthems even when they're a punk rock band.

      I think our point was more production-wise and thematically Father To A Son feels a little out of place on this record than some of the other ballads/acoustic songs they’ve done on those respective albums. But the song itself is great, so we’ll take it however we can get it!

    never heard of you guys before, but i’m glad this got recommended, it was a fun watch! I’ve been a Green Day fan for a LONG time (fav album is Insomniac) and I gotta say in following the rollout and release of this album, the trio seems kind of reinvigorated, which is really cool for how long they’ve been at it. Saviors might not tread new ground or hit the same as their early work, but I haven’t enjoyed new Green Day this much in a long time. it’s a damn fun listen. especially Corvette Summer.

      totally agree, there is more of an energy to this album top to bottom than some of the more recent stuff and it's so great to see. It might be a little familiar but it's also hard to reach the heights they have reached in the past creatively, so I'll take having a bunch of good songs and a couple of greats. Corvette Summer is a blast, one of the tops on the album and maybe an all timer for me. thanks for giving us a shot! we went through Dookie a while back too, if you're in the mood for more of our Green Day takes haha

      @@notgoodnotbad Track sequencing is so important! I think it would be interesting to see you guys take a classic album and try to come up with a better track order.
      Also, you touched on the idea of taking Uno, Dos, Tre and condensing it into a single, tight 10 song album. I also had that idea a while back when listening to Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness 🤣. I'm sure it's already been done, but I love the idea of a series that takes bloated albums or even multiple albums from an artist's discography to make one record that's all killer, no filler.

    Happened to stumble across this video and am happy for it, you lads are great! As a Green Day fan I would say this album is their best work in years, and the decision to have Rob Cavallo produce their work again and Chris Lord-Alge mix the record has paid dividends. Sonically the production is great even if admittedly there are low points on the record. I don't particularly care for the American Dream as a song. It's a bit too dull and lethargic overall for my taste with a too polished and package-ready feel for a lead single. In addition, since the trilogy I think some of Billie's lyrical choices are boring at best and cringe worthy at worst, the PDF line in American Dream comes to mind here. However, some tunes are undeniably catchy, punchy, and Green Day at their best. 20's, Goodnight Adeline, Dilemma, One Eyed Bastard, and Fancy Sauce are highlights for me. Keep up the good work with the channel :)

    I think its more about the feeling than being "right" with green day. As here and on all their albums really, there will be a song singing about how they hate one thing, and on the end of the album its how they accept that thing as being part of themselves. American dream and fancy sauce have some contradicting feelings. And thats what i love about green day. It feels alot more human to be confused about the world than to just take one side which is the extremism that they are agaisnt

    I’m pretty sure 1981 is in reference to the hardcore punk scene. Which is important in the pantheon of punk and rock n roll in general. The cable tv part is a reference to when fear played on SNL and it turned into a riot. Which launched punk, especially California punk to new heights. I like saviors a lot, easy listen, think Goodnight Adeline is my favorite. Not their peak but certainly a real solid album for this far into their career. I enjoyed the brief blink/Green Day comp, and I know it was in relation to the feedback you guys have received on your reaction to blink’s album, but I just think they are interesting bands to compare. I love them each in their own right. I think Green Day’s consistency of putting out good stuff for such a long time is remarkable, and they definitely have an upper hand on blink in that regard, no doubt, but I, personally l, feel like blink, at their best, can be more dynamic and has a higher ceiling. A lower floor too haha. Maybe it is having two vocalists, but like Turpentine is a good example: such a unique, dynamic, awesome song that I can’t picture anyone but blink making. I’m not sure you can necessarily say the same about Green Day, although you would have to take into account that Green Day influenced a ton of the sound you hear in modern pop punk with dookie, so maybe that’s unfair. American Idiot was a revelation, but maybe more for its rock opera-type configuration than dynamic, unique songs. Nonetheless, don’t really have a point here I guess, just two completely different bands in the same place that are awesome for their own reasons.

    • @notgoodnotbad
      @notgoodnotbad  Před 5 měsíci +1

      hey that's as good as point as any, two bands that are awesome and fun to compare! I think we would probably both agree with your summation here that Blink might creatively, dynamically, uniquely have the greater output. The two vocalists certainly add a dynamism, the wide-ranging influences and interests behind Travis Barker's drum parts change a fine song to a killer, and I think the fact that they don't and maybe never have really agreed on anything leads to some uniquely crafted songs that transcend the typical pop punk experience. That's not to say Tre isn't an incredible drummer, and his parts have historically been really interesting (the stuff he does on Dookie alone seems individually influential, and that album as a whole of course, as you point out), but it seems as they get older and more comfortable with their sound he just isn't/isn't allowed to(?) go outside the box too far. They also seem to genuinely be friends and practice and work together which can influence how they arrive at a certain sound or song, I imagine. But overall I think the initial point stands that Green Day has the more consistently great output, Blink has some more unique, creative highs smattered across a less consistent - and, of course, less active - career. Turpentine might be one of the best Blink songs ever, idk if anything on Saviors rises to the height of any Green Day all-timers. I'd put a couple up there on the list, but nothing surpasses what came before. But again, Green Day has a lot bigger catalogue of greats to go up against imo. anyway, like you said, no real point except to continue talking about bands we love and buddy, that's the whole reason we started doing this! so thank you! thanks for watching!

    Why do people expect artists to conform to preconceived notions of ages and stereotypes? Age is a state of mind, artists generally aren’t conformists in every sense, punk or rebel people are non-conforming even more, and there will be references people don’t get or understand.
    Do people want artists or performers? A lot of fans don’t respect that artists don’t want to be in a box or exclusively performers. There is a great deal that is more important than that. Art is an outlet, an expression and a love, yet in first place artists are humans with feelings, desires, prerogatives, and goals behind all of that, like everyone else.
    “Coma City” is similar to the zombie theme in, “The American Dream is Killing Me”. Many people lack awareness of their robo behaviors, perspective of the world in which they live, understanding the way they are manipulated, and notice of their active rat race participation.

      Stylistically it sometimes harkens back to a Warning/Nimrod era sound. We acknowledge many times they sound almost identical to other songs they’ve written in fact! Thanks for watching
