I'm so glad I met Paramore again and that interviews exists lol. Listening to Hailey talk about ptsd, depression, love and sexism in the industry gave so much depth to a band I had left in my early teens. The story between Taylor, Josh and Hayley is nuts as well. Happy they became friends again and have a healthier connection now.

great album for the time period

This will likely be my favorite album of the decade. It’s so creatively rife and fun, and is exactly what I crave from modern music. Fun as fuck album!

Love this album and I'm glad I'm not the only who can't get enough of the bridge in Miracle LOL But honestly, I think this is a solid album and after some more time, I personally could definitely consider it a classic. On a completely different note though, you guys should post a review of the new Alkaline Trio album! Would be interested to hear the thoughts

7/10. I'd give 'top album' to walking wounded. Saw them recently on this album tour... They played about 4 from the new album, plus the classics. They were outstanding! Saw them last in Shudder era, they sound more polished and tight and with unnatural energy for age.

I love Ghost! I haven't watched the full episode yet, so maybe you touched on their live performances. If you have a chance to see them live, do it. I saw them 2 years ago and it was unlike any rock concert I've ever been to. I'm not generally into highly choreographed concerts, but it was so much fun. Tobias is a great frontman too. Funny as hell.

I've been watching interviews and buying from Bandcamp even though I had access through other providers. I discovered you guys because of JVD. Like JVD you guys should be more popular but maybe that's for the best Anyway enjoyed your time discussing Marathon Daze and the banter. You mentioned Talking Heads multiple times, Just in case you don’t know yet, Paramore is a huge fan of Talking Heads and David Byrne is Paramore fan, and Paramore covered “Burning down the house” then David Byrne will cover “Hard Times”. I consider Taylor York as founding member of Paramore, he just didn’t signed up back then cause they were underage, but he cowrote paramore’s first ever song “Conspiracy” from All we know is falling and “Oh Star” from the b-side when they were 12 or 13 years old and Zac was only 11 that time. He’s been with the band since the beginning.

Taylor was actually with Paramore before Hailey joined, but then had to leave because his parents wanted him to finish High School, he toured with them in Riot and then was in the band ever since, he wasn't a new guy and he's the only reason Paramore exists now and they will be touring this year with Taylor Swift. The story of them is really interesting, I think that Thick Skull from This is Why shows how much all of the drama affected her, I'd love to see your reaction to that one, it won 2 grammys. Ahh Taylor and Zac Farro were good friends, he invited Zac to play the drums for them and in the middle of that, they asked him to come back. Later, Josh posted a homophobic rant and all three members and even Jeremy denounced that so I doubt they are that close. Also, this album is fantastic, I love all songs but I want to make a special mention for No Friend, it just makes me go wild every time, you can see that it's mostly Taylor putting all his soul in it, specially live, I don't really think the lyrics matter that much, it's the raw feeling for me, the song is just wonderful. Loved the reaction ♥

Thank you for reviewing this album. JVD is criminally underrated. Im a Christian, and i absolutely love his music. He keeps it real as a believer, something a lot of Christian people don't like to do in fear of being rejected by the church/ Unfortunate that Jesus / the Bible is represented in a bad light now a days due to peoples words and ill intent. all that to say, i think this album is like "hey i'm not doing great, i'm looking for God and wanting to do better, but i'm held back by my personal issues." songs such as "in the morning" and "help me let go" are hopeful, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I love heart lake too , its production and its message. The ending is sweet- just being content and grateful even when it's hard. All this to say, great review! (I subbed) and i am glad to know there are some more of us on the JVD wagon!

I’m pretty sure 1981 is in reference to the hardcore punk scene. Which is important in the pantheon of punk and rock n roll in general. The cable tv part is a reference to when fear played on SNL and it turned into a riot. Which launched punk, especially California punk to new heights. That’s just my guess, I have no inside information.haven’t heard anyone else say this but that’s what I gathered from it.I think this song is awesome and the most fun song on the record

I’ve said this before but there is a great 13 song album im Uno dos Trey. I made it on a Apple Music playlist entitled Green Day 13. But I added “back in the USA” which is a single from that dumb Will feral and zach Galifinakis movie and cigarettes and valentines to it. Father of all… should’ve been a longshots record. Which is just Green Day doing more of a rock n roll thing

This album gets a 2 out of 10 for me , green day use to write awesome music now they make regurgitated trash what a bunch of sellouts , almost as bad as silverchair

Why do people expect artists to conform to preconceived notions of ages and stereotypes? Age is a state of mind, artists generally aren’t conformists in every sense, punk or rebel people are non-conforming even more, and there will be references people don’t get or understand. Do people want artists or performers? A lot of fans don’t respect that artists don’t want to be in a box or exclusively performers. There is a great deal that is more important than that. Art is an outlet, an expression and a love, yet in first place artists are humans with feelings, desires, prerogatives, and goals behind all of that, like everyone else. “Coma City” is similar to the zombie theme in, “The American Dream is Killing Me”. Many people lack awareness of their robo behaviors, perspective of the world in which they live, understanding the way they are manipulated, and notice of their active rat race participation.

I feel like people misinterpret the line “TikTok and taxes” because they isolate it. The full line is “Don’t want no huddled masses, TikTok and taxes.” I believe this to be a jab at right wing propaganda in this country. Fox News for example is notoriously anti-immigration, anti-taxation, and lately have been fear mongering about the Chinese government spying on us through TikTok.
