  • Gene takes a trip to Springfield Illinois to visit Legacy Audio who have just unveiled their latest flagship product. The Valor, is a speaker that pushes the state-of-the-art in high-fidelity further than ever before as a 2,750 watt, 11-driver behemoth that is packed with the latest advances in audio engineering. The sound from the Valor is tightly controlled so interference from room acoustics is greatly reduced, and imaging from the original signal is preserved with greater clarity than ever before. The methods used by Legacy to reconstruct the original stereo image go well beyond traditional room correction equalization. Check out our CZcams Interview with Bill Dudleston, President of Legacy Audio, to get all of the details on how they work.

    You can tell the personality and vibe of Bill flows through the rest of the company. When I have the room, and when I have the cash I will absolutely go with legacy speakers.

    Great! One of the best videos Audioholics has done! Loved watching Gene talk shop a legend and make it more understandable to the layman. Would have loved to see Gene do a proper listening test. More like this, please! Would be awesome to see interviews with Founders/engineers from Philharmonic Audio, Ascend Acoustics, and Power Sound Audio!

    Great video I’m a big fan of legacy Audio I was able to spend a lot of time hearing these at Axpona this past year and was really impressed with there line up.

    Nice video, please do more high end videos for the few of us that love it, even if we can't always afford it, maybe someday we can, and it's just fun to see what can be done, I just wish I could hear it, the shops that carry this stuff have pretty much disappeared around here, so it's nice to see a video like this to wet my appetite. Really beautiful speakers from this company.

      He said that using dsps is the best way to create a speaker, purity takes a back seat to accuracy and transparency

      @FOH3663 Před 5 lety

      @Brent Handy, CTS
      Regarding your latter point regarding DSP transparency;
      not too long ago your supposition would've been correct.
      However the processing power and capability of well executed dsp hardware ... I believe renders your concerns a moot point.
      I've learned to allow the final resultant sound to guide my opinions and positions on various approaches/topologies.
      It's so easy to be swayed by convention.
      Straight wire with gain, I'm as luddite as they come. Or I was...
      Now your initial point about physical time alignment vs. DSP alignment; physical time alignment can be achieved but only at a specific frequency range.
      With loudspeaker transducer circuits, the variable LCR characteristics make time alignment a moving target by frequency.
      Physical alignment cannot address that continuously variable time domain anomaly.* Well executed robust DSP processing that's utilized in some current offerings can.
      *(let alone complex summation issues occurring within the minimum phase region)

      @Brent Handy, CTS "But throwing speakers in a box and Sorting it all out later with DSP is silly. It sounds bad." That's hardly what Legacy are doing.

    "Try to keep the cost proportionate to what we put into it". Wow! I can't believe that a speaker manufacturer actually has the ethics to use such a business model. Other manufacturers would have easily charged $250,000, at least.

    I would like to know just how transparent the Wavelet is? Currently, I'm using a transformer volume control based remote controlled passive preamp from ICON that is extremely transparent and revealing. My speakers are the Legacy Focus and has been mentioned in this video I have some much loved recordings that were mastered light in the bass. If the Wavelet could bump up the bass without losing the kind of transparency I'm accustomed to I would be happy to buy one.

    Looking to get a new AVR any want suggestions.I’m between the Yamaha RX-A2070. Denon AVR-X4400. Marantz SR6012 I’ll be paring with Klipsch RP-280F towers. I don’t not plan on running any separates in my system right away and will be running a 2.1 setup for the next year. My main concern is music quality

    Question: I have a 7.1 with atmos . im loving it! I recently watched Annabelle Creation (horror movie) with Atmos and it was great hearing scary sounds from ceiling speakers like I was in the movie. I have just a receiver no amp. and I find it sounds great and loud and good base. I followed all your vids to guide me for setup. MY QUESTION is if I want to upgrade to a receiver with 11.2 so I can have 7.1.4 instead of 5.1.2 with ATMOS..would I be losing quality since they send power to more speakers? just a note I don't plan on getting one that HAS to have a amplifier. optional maybe but I cant afford a 3000$ receiver and a 3000$ or more amp...just the 3000$ reciver thanks!

    Thank you Gene - I think for 2 channel listening we should not have a subwoofer. In my experience it is extremely hard to integrate the subwoofer properly. It is so hard to time align the subwoofer with your Mains. Even with these speakers I think there will be a delay in the lowest frequencies - I have spent much money / time trying to “FIX” my 2 channel setup but it’s hard. I have been using JL phantom F113 with paradigm signature s8 - JL CR1 active crossover(parasound a21 amp, parasound p7 preamp) and with the subwoofer ON, the whole listening experience becomes weird. Feels like the room is holding to much low energy and the bass in not propagating/ decaying on time. The system is crossed over at 63hz / 24db octave. Maybe you can do a video on 2 channel system and subwoofer integration with main alignment?

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  Před 6 lety +1

      I understand where you're coming from. It is challenging to integrate full range towers with separate powered subwoofers but it can be done. The problem is you have too much overlap at common frequencies between the towers (set large) and your powered subwoofer. You can either EQ this out or run your towers on small.

    • @seanadams69
      @seanadams69 Před 6 lety +1

      REL subwoofers, from my experience, seem to make the subwoofer blending process sound much smoother and more natural IMHO. They seems to blend in very nicely with my tower speakers after finding the appropriate crossover point.

    very interested in the wavelet, sadly, the wavelet seems very propriatary in that it seems to be specificly designed for only a handful of high end speakers, mostly those made by Legacy, and though Legacy is nice, their speakers are very expensive (this speaker with the wavelet costs $50k, far outside of most people's price range) and to some a bit "flat, angular, and woody" for some people's taste (I honestly am not a big fan of the angled backs cut from blocks of hardwood most of their speakers seemt to be designed to be).

    I've kept up with Legacy over the years and while I've put together what some would consider a pretty decent home theater consisting of Emotiva Processor Velodyne digital sub still kicks and Klipsch reference ,I could never afford The Legacy flagship speakers ,I'm playing the Mega and those puppies are coming home to the new Beach house LOL

    You cannot reconstruct the soundfield of a "musical event" if the recording doesn't contain that information. Most don't. And that kind of imaging is part of binaural and Ambisonic recording.I have no doubt Bill Duldleston is intelligent and sincere. But like too many designers (of any product), he's fixated on what is almost certainly a good idea, but fails to research The Prior Art.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  Před 6 lety

      It's a DSP trick to simulate an expanded soundfield and in my brief listening tests, it seems to work pretty well. You do make valid points however.
