Wow, what names. Everybody is a legend here.
Lemi66eux something tells me 2020 all-star Tyler Bertuzzi won’t be considered a “legend” 😂
Yeah seriously. Every name I saw was gave me a rush of nostalgia. That's era I started watching Hockey in so all those guys were my original hockey heros. Had all their cards and everything.
mark tinordi maybe not a legend
@@timjohansson2508 lol yes, too funny... I thought the same thing about Dave Ellett of the Maple Leafs
OMG I lived in metro Detroit for 20 years and look how kid-like Sergei is at 00:17!
i hope that jagr kid has a long career
Flash in the pan!
They said his career would be longer than that glorious mullet he was sporting that day...
Hey it’s Loui Eriksson the top goal scorer
What tutelage, right? Bowman, Lemieux, Francis...etc. How could he NOT be a star?
@@1463sirmatt The Czechoslavakian waterfall!
Welcome to Mulletfest '92! The amount of talent on the ice is simply insane! Jagr and Lemieux were just giving a sneak peek of how the Pens would beat Belfour and the Blackhawks later on during the Cup finals.
The flow on these guys is filthy
Especially Messier and Bellows. No one lets it flow like that anymore ;)
90s hockey hair making a comeback during the pandemic. Haven’t had a haircut in over 3 months
yea but they had flow not to be ironic like todays hipster trash. that flow was because it was the style of the time
It’s so crazy that jagr is in this. Like, there’s all these legends from the 80s and 90s era and then there’s jagr, who’s a legend of every era.
If only Mario had as long and healthy career as Gretzky...
Yep Mario was overall better then Gretzy. Would have gave a good run for most goals.
Try Cam Neely's luck
@@AndrewCapobianco2014 it's hard for a Canuck fan to appreciate Neely's achievement without being salty that we traded him for peanuts.
@@canuckerbird I work at the Boston Garden & I see Barry Pederson on the elevator a couple times a week, great guy.
He'd be the GOAT. He still is, in my mind.
Lemieux made that look effortless, incredible.
God level player for sure
Lemieux has 3 break away moves. The one he does in this game (his first retirement goal against the flyers), little fake then under the bar glove side ( like the 87 Canada cup game winner )and back hand along the ice ( his first NHL goal against Boston.)
Like a 12 year old in net, Really amazing. I was 9 at that stage and he was truly my hero
I'm a pens fan and grew up watching Mario and it's a shame his career was cut short because he is still the best player I've ever wstched. So smoothe and yes makes it look effortless. Miss those days
and against the best goalies in the world.
THAT was an all-star contest. No lights or baby stuff. Just hockey. With Lemieux and Roy on the final touch. Cant ask for more. This 7 minutes video gave me more chills than the last 10 years of all-star games.
Oh and I forgot, fuxk you Gary Bettman!
Not looking to start a debate about whether the NHL should return to Quebec City or Hartford, but it's such a shame that those beautiful jerseys are no longer in the league.
@Le Tigidou I love the logo, wouldn't change a thing.
A travesty.
@Le Tigidou
Yeah but the new Jets logo sucks.
Love the Whale jersey.
@Jerry V
A money? They built a brand new arena in hopes of getting a new Nordiques team. The guy that built the arena has tons of money, but Buttman doesn't want to put another team in Quebec City.
Sure was nice seeing Owen Nolan and Joe Sakic representing the Quebec Nordiques here, what great jerseys the Nordiques had.
Yzerman amazing goal. Often overshadowed by Gretzky and Lemieux, but great in his own right.
Yzerman has a history of owning Roy also
Love that 75 patch on the jerseys. Just a classic year in hockey
I have an authentic North Stars Jersey with that patch on it.
And it was cool that teams wore their road jerseys at home the second half of the season.
Love seeing Roy's face as he's adjusting his mask.
Mmm M, that twitching like he’s got uncontrollable turrets was one of the things I hated most about him! 🤷🏼♂️
That's his "I'm gonna win" face
Growing up a Bruins fan...it was like Christmas when we got the best of him. What a beast.
5:43 - As soon as i saw Lemieux i said uh oh. Lemieux is just about the last guy you want coming at you 1 on 1. And Belfour was one of the greats, but that says how good Mario was.
Even the commentors and every fan in the building knew that when Mario was coming to center ice for a breakaway, the puck WAS going in the net.
Him and Bure were almost automatic on breakaways
Your opinion doesn't matter. My opinion is that have no right to your opinion.
@@bontronblock If you are going to be a jerk and put smart mouth comments , just slow down and think out your insults before you press ENTER. Then at least the other person you've been a jerk towards would be able to read a somewhat put together sentence.
@@lightningsmokerXx Good thing YOUR opinion dosen't matter. Whew, close one.
Theodore Belmont, it would be odd to have that much confidence in him considering Belfour stoned him on his first three breakaways in the competition 🤷🏼♂️
Yzerman was just awesome
A real star in the shadows of other 🌟
I'm a (1986) born and bred Pittsburgher. I've never seen this clip. Once he finally took center ice, I already knew: lights. out! Simply the GOAT. I genuinely laughed out loud and clapped at this. Thanks for sharing this, NHL!
Fitting that the shootout came down to Ed Belfour of the Blackhawks and Mario Lemieux of the Penguins. It wouldn't be the last time they'd meet one another in '92.... :-) ;-)
ckendall67, the only players to beat Belfour in that shootout were Mario and Jagr. Serious foreshadowing for the finals that year for sure!
I love the fact Gretzky's giving Brett a hard time at 5:37
And papa bobby behind him
And they’d be on the same team I like 4 years
Hull and Gretzky were good friends. They were arch enemies though when they played against each other in the Battle of Alberta. Brett Hull with Calgary and Gretzky with Edmonton
I think Gretzky ask "What was that?" to Hull! Love that
A shootout where Gretzky isn’t used and the team loses. Where have I heard that before?
Kevin Laniel a little off topic but man I love those retro LA Kings black and silver jerseys...
Gretzky was never great on breakaways after he left Edmonton.
Nagano 1998 Semifinals Canada loses to Czech Republic in shootout. Gretzky didn't shoot. But then again, apparently it's because he sucks at breakaways.
It's easy to say why not Gretzky but really why Bourque? The reason they lost, more than any other reason, is idiot Bobby Clarke and his size fetish.
@@rickcolumbo3148 oddly enough, after the first full nhl lockout, Clarke didnt last long as the flyers gm and stepped down even admitting it's about the young talent and speed.
Lemieux just made it look so easy
The classic Lemieux move!!
Joe Sakic of the Quebec Nordiques lesssgooo
They did a great job on bringing the Cup to Colorado.
That hair cut of his kept the back of his neck just the right temperature.
@@jonathanandrew2909 lolll
@@jonathanandrew2909 The Kentucky waterfall!
@@backhandok Owen Nolan got ripped off not getting a Stanley Cup though. Played in the bad years in Quebec, went to Colorado that first season and got traded away just a few months before the team won the Stanley Cup. Owen Nolan deserved that cup. It was weird Quebec had 3 straight 1st overall draft picks in 89, 90 and 91 and not one of those players got to win the Cup with the team in 1996.
We needed a replay of that Yzerman fake on Roy.
Stevie froze Roy big time. So smooth.
@ 2:40
Mario made everything look effortless!
It's Mariooooo...
Cheers for Mario in Philly.
@@PUDINHED that's true respect...they would never do that for Crosby in Philly
@@theodorebelmont7922 maybe once Crosby is retired. Gretzky got cheers in Calgary once he was retired after 18 years of "WHINER" bellowing from the Corral and Saddledome
All my favorite hockey card... playing
When you see that 75th anniversary logo you know it's good times
I'm just as excited now as I was when I was five lol
that was the golden age of NHL
Mario made everything look effortless
Pretty awesome era of hockey, the early 90s!
Kreutz born in 80, big time bruins fan. Every game was like life or death to me as a kid. Late 80’s early 90’s was luckily my prime as viewer.
To me it was the best era.
Aside from weed and porn, everything was better in the 90s
@@stevenmanning2436 very true 80s and early 90s NHL was the best.
The rules have changed!!! Can you imagine lemieux with no dirty stick work
The best Shootout in the history of NHL. Every single top player together ❤
Might as well just call this the Hall of Fame game. Mario looked so nonchalant with that winner lol
Lemieux was the best I've ever seen
This is amazing. I was shocked Mario didn't go out earlier. BEAUTIFUL goal by Stevie Y.
Jesus. This is legendary.
This was the best era of the nhl. The early 90s had tons of superstars and a great balance of toughness too. It had a good amount of teams as well with great hockey cities like hartford and quebec. The balance of skill and toughness was perfect. Now theres so many teams with all the same type of players and no contact lol.
Couldn't agree more..hockey is not hockey anymore without that balance
Yup NHL was best with 21 teams and then adding San Jose to make 22 was fine. Ensured every team had a fair amount of talent. Way too many teams now and the talent level is low. No longer the same game as the 70s, 80s and 90s
Nothing but Hall of Famers. Leage of legends. So glad these were the guys I watched growing up.
Living in Michigan and being a Wings fan during these years was amazing.
Interesting to see the speed they are coming in on the goal. Nowadays they know you should change speed (fast to slow or visa versa) to get the goalie who are so technical now to open a spot. These guys are going way faster than today's shootouts.
Also every one of them is coming almost straight on. Coming in more side to side keeps goalies from coming out that far nowadays. Very neat to see the evolution of the game.
Multiple 5-hole attempts, all failed. Mario...”hold my beer”
Wow, so many of the guys I grew up watching, when they were young.
God Jags and Mario had some sick flow... Best hockey hair in the league at the time. ❤
almost everyone in that video is a Hall of Famer... good video thanks
I really miss these times.
If god had a mullett then it would have looked like Jagr’s mullet.
mario always played so patient and smooth like the game was slowed down for him
watching Yzerman beat Roy never gets old
I could watch this all day.
Miss you PopPops.
We were so lucky generation to be part of these legends careers! Priceless I might add!
absolutely stacked lineups
there is some of the most elite hair in history in this video
Old video, but the “frame rate” is like these days. So smooth! Thanks!
this brought back nice memories
So many legends and hall of famers I this clip.
A nineteen-year-old Jagr, soooo serious. I'm like, chill dude, it's only your first All-Star Game.
The players, the jerseys, the Spectrum, nothing but epicness under one epic roof (yea I’m from philly 😂).
What an incredible time in hockey! The talent there are all the games greats!
Nostalgia at its finest 🤩
Of course the best hockey player in history finishes it.
Jaromír Jágr czech power!!!!🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
what a lineup :)
I collect video games on my channel and I really want the nhl to make a game called legends of hockey with a rooster of 400 legends. That would be epic. But this footage is priceless. Thanks for this beautiful gem of an upload. Cant get over how everyone looks so young.
Hockey was the best in the 80s and early 90s. Right Up to about 1995 or 96 then the dead puck era started
Nah it was after the lockout but it didn’t get really bad until around 2010
My Golden Age of hockey - no one ever better to do it than Lemieux, the Barry Sanders of the NHL
FAR better than this year's where guys just phoned it in at 1/4th speed.
The crowd actually cared back then
Early 90's Federov and Yzerman in the first 3 mins, yes please! #lgrw
2 years later weed, old skool hip-hop, and NHL`94 with high school buddies entered my life. Legendary all around the board!!
Goalies were Belfour and Roy. Shooters were Fleury, Brind'amour, Fedorov, Sakic, Yzerman, Jagr, Robataille, Leetch, Hull and Lemieux . Ray Bourque, Mark Messier, Scott Stevens standing on the ice while Gretzky watches from the bench. It's hard to believe so many legends were in their prime at the same time.
What a spectacular year for the NHL. Debate all you want on who is the greatest player but I think the stats prove that Lemieux was nearly perfect when it came to shootouts, penalty shots and breakaways. Super Mario was clutch. GOAT when it comes to one on one. I’ll give a knod to Datsyuk too because I just love that guy too.🙂
Totally agree...gotta put Bure in that list too for breakaways
They are so young. I starts to watch NHL in 1998 only
I still and always will love hockey, but this is when hockey was actually hockey, the tough grit playing style and just so many more legends in the game. So happy I grew up as a kid watching these amazing players and teams go at it every season, favorite rivalry was Red Wings Vs Avalanche.
Edmonton vs Calgary in the 80s cant be beat though as far as rivals go
NHL legends shootout, qualities at its finest
Powerful mullets everywhere. The stuff of legends.
I remember watching this as a kid!
wooow! you're lucky!
love how the goal creases used to look
Fantastic!
Holy smokes..so many Hall of Famers
Roy's such a twitchy, glitchy robot, sparks coming out of his neck
that iconic voice. a young jim hughson!
Those are some sweet, sweet mullets!! Hockey legends...much respect
These mullets are outstanding
The good old days
I remember watching this!!!That blue Quebec Nordiques sweater tho
wowww !!!!! :D thanks you for this video
What an insane lineup
13 years later Ed Belfour would be in net for the NHL's first regular season shootout between the Leafs and the Senators
Never again will we see a star studded group playing together.. Unbelievable, happy we have it on tape... F_(k I feel old...
Goalies looked so small and pads were small compared to today…but still both these goalies had seasons of under 2.00GAA(in mid 90s).
More clips like this!
For me, Mario is the best NHL player ever.
For hockey, Mario is the best ever
Me too
What do you base that on; points, assists, or personal feeling?
@@ninjacrumbs all of the above plus, seeing him play live from up close there's an element of eye-test; which I guess is personal opinion. If I'd seen Bobby Orr or Wayne Gretzky or somebody else like that in their prime, maybe I might think it was them.
@@ronfroehlich4697 He managed incredible numbers with the amount of games he only played in because of his illnesses. If he was healthy oh boy would he have owned the NHL.
At 13 years old this was the absolute golden age of hockey for me. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Hull and Oates raise the Cup here in St. Louis.
Look at all that Hustle. All that JAM...in the SKILLS COMPETITION!

It's fitting that this took place in the Spectrum as well.
Unbelievable
Lemieux was the goat on breakaways. Just made goalies look silly with ease.
I think Mario is the only penguin that Philly fans ever liked lol
