I believe it was Jay Leno who said "Ferrari guys brag about how low their mileage is, Porsche drivers brag about how HIGH their mileage is." Cool video.
Kinda like BMW and Mercedes drivers lol. BMW drivers are scared to keep their cars after 100k miles, I brag to others that my Mercedes has 150k and plan to drive it for many more
Jay Leno said corvette owners not Porsche
No he did not.
I just hit 250,150 miles on my 1999 911 996 C4 - all weather, daily driver and I love it.
Nice!
Bought a 2000 C2 last July for my 62nd birthday. I have put 8000 miles on her so far, had to put tires on it and just the standard maintenance. She has almost 100K miles now, uses no oil (I've never had a car that the oil stayed so clean in) and is solid and a pure joy to drive. I spent the last 3 months seeking out twisty back roads all over CA, NV, UT, CO, NM and AZ. What a wonderful machine, to me the car seems to have a soul and makes me feel like young again.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your car!
Swaff is an awesome guy. I met him in college and he made some music videos with my yellow Gallardo. So great to see him out enjoying this car. Sounds like a better experience than I had with the Ruf.
Are you going to be hopping back into the Porsche ownership experience any time soon? Maybe a Porsche GT3 or something?
Also, is it "easy" or straight forward to do a manual swap on a Murcielago?
Always fun to catch up, Ed! It's hard to believe we are about to be at the 10 year anniversary of when that video came out for The GTGs! #2018
My 2002 996 has turned 172k with regular use - mainly high speed motorway - servicing and regular oil changes . Great cars
Top points to the girlfriend/fiance for filming you driving 175 on the Autobahn!
She's the best!
Thanks for coming by Swaff! So cool to see someone racking up miles on their dream car.
Thanks for having me by!
@@brandonswafford861 You still own this car? How many miles does it have?
2000 996, just crossed 85k miles. Bought in 2018 at 74k miles. Had her serviced at the Porsche dealer when I decided to turn her into a daily driver- I swear the car drives better now that I put 64 miles on her every work day!
A guy local to me just rolled 100k in his Gallardo Superleggera. He told me he dailys it, even through the winter. The car screams, and I remember the summer he got it, I would always spot him ripping down some of the local back roads near me. If anyone has heard of the CF Charities show, the owner of the superleggera is actually the man who started the entire event, Larry. Love seeing cars rack up crazy "unheard of" mileage!
sgfreak96 I thought a 120k mile testarossa was a lot
Is it the orange one with all the stickers?
Yeah! I know you're local, you've definitely seen it!
Oh yes, I've seen that car a lot- and that's why it's got that many miles!
that is because the engine is an R8 unit
That's awesome! I love hearing about people who aren't afraid to rack up the miles or go on crazy trips! They're made to be driven!
It’s not a bad thing to not drive your car a lot some people just love the look and would rather keep it in a garage which I’m ok with
@@brg9759 Sure! I respect and appreciate both. I just hate seeing cars that never get driven at all. You've really got to drive them at least a little to keep them happy
I know all about the IMS bearing! My 2004 996 4S went on me going onto a dual carriageway. Long story short I should of researcherd the bearing issue first. Over £12,000 pounds later and many trips on a recovery vehicle before it got to its place of restoration. The car is back to new, fully rebuilt engine it drives like an absolute dream. However any one purchasing a 996 get the IMS done asap and save yourself a good amount of money! Love the content VINWiki !
Mileage and year happened please?
My uncle is at 320k miles on his first year Porsche Boxster with only routine maintenance
Heck Yeah! I'm driving the piss out of mine too. Keep it serviced, no sweat. Had the clutch, Ims, and rear seal replaced straight away. Drive it like you stole it.
I'm that kind of guy who attaches value to a car for the memories he had in it. A car is like a companion.
I got all excited from the title thinking it was Hoovie's Garage.
Ed & team you guys really need to get Tyler Hoover to share his stories here!
Auto Technica x2
Hoovie here would be hysterical. He makes so many bad decisions so he has so many good stories.
His channel would be good for vinwiki format :p
I love when car enthusiasts actually drive their cars. People that claim to love their cars but only rack up 20 thousand miles in a decade are boring. If resale value is your only consideration then just don't buy the car in the first place. Buy a prius.
💯💯💯
The M96 engine in the early cars is a 3.4 litre motor and loves to rev with great useable low down torque. Effortless overtaking and a nice surge to redline when you want to give it a hiding.
Steven Buick well said Brotha
A loyal car enthusiast is in the house! He's not somebody that needs a new supercar every two minutes for attention! Wonderful.
Thanks!
💯
I cried when dad sold his. Thing had 260000 kilometers on it when he sold it and absolutely NO flaws whatsoever. I've been trying to find it for 2,5 years now but sadly no sucsess...
Hoovie proved that it can go way over 200k miles
MockALove there's a GT3 with over 300k miles might even be at 400k
50 minutes with a 10 minute break is pretty cool as an idea. Especially when you have craftsmen doing that kind of work.
Not sure if it would work everywhere, but it's a cool idea for more hands-on jobs.
Literally a story straight from my dreams. Goals.
Cool, finally someone who drives the wheels off of their car. I am so tired of seeing the washer, polisher, and looker car guy. Crap, I can't drive the car today, it is raining. I have a blast in the Georgia downpours.
@Tim btw his comment was 2 years ago also u must be fun at parties.
@aferran69 He is. I drive a lot and for sure don't ''garage queen'' cars but you can bet that if is pouring rain i'm not getting in that car.
Porsche definitely seems to be the best option for a high mileage exotic.
Brett Bilger absolutely! Most daily driveable too. www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a32639/this-porsche-996-turbo-for-sale-has-an-absurd-590000-miles-on-it/
The only thing VW you want with high mileage!
my bestfriends dad has a 944 with 300,000 plus miles, never had to tear the motor down, no problems
Now that is some driving. Good for this guy! True enthusiast.
I like this guy and I like his ideas on a first date. Good dude right here.
Thanks, Jonathan!
One time I got my 1994 caravan up to 55, It was a rush you guys
You know you love Vin Wiki when you remember their videos by title.
My kind of dude. I also have a black 1999 996 C2 and have driven it across the US. Super comfortable and reliable. Best 911 for the money.
They are brilliant cars.
Tyler Hoover got like 250k out of his
@@brien1254 I actually remember seeing that when it was for sale, the guy raised the price like 5 grand Because he got a lot of offers
And he called it Apollo 911, as 250k is roughly the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Very clever
The M96 engine in the early 98/99 cars was a dual row IMS bearing with proven 1% failure rate. Later cars switched to single row with proven 9% failure. US class action suit proved this.
So many 996's with the same longevity story. When maintained, they're bulletproof. Seeing over 150k on mine is a goal I'll hopefully see one day Great Vid
This is a great channel! I just binged watched all of your videos
Sobhi Awadallah all of them? All 700?
I can relate to this
dank wow they don't have that many, I've watched almost all of them as well...
Same. Haha.
I really like the 996. It is a bit unloved but it is such a classic. I would have to find a way to drive mine through a glass wall like in Gone In 60 Seconds.
I had a base model 1997 c5 corvette that I sold at 245,000 miles with no major problems, just an intake long tubes axle back and a tune. Never broke down, regular maintenance done myself, was rear ended twice. Most reliable car I’ve ever owned. My nephew is driving it now about to cross 275k I believe.
Hoovies Garage got his 911 to go over at least 200k miles before it blew up on a track
Samoyed Gaming and ls swaped it
I want to go to a 200k Porsche party at some point in my life. Good story
'99 996 C2 Coupe here too, awesome car.
I really like it when folks actually drive some of their more exotic cars!
Keep up the great work Ed and crew!!!
Love seeing people who put real miles on their cars. Drive 'em!
The 996 is just a year younger than me so the first years of my life when I started to learn about cars, the 996 generation was THE Porsche. Always liked them, maybe I should save up for one, they seem to very user friendly cars that can handle all year around conditions.
This vlog is AWESOME! I love learning about enthusiasts who aren't afraid to drive and wrench on their own rides! This also diminished the previous thoughts I had about European sport cars being unreliable.
Shows how these cars are reliable.
Well when it kicks the bucket you can pull a Hoovie and LS Swap it
I remember used to not liking the looks of the 996 but they've definitely grown on me.
Nice story, car and family adventure!
iLupi holy shit a LS swap on a Porsche . Jesus
I saw a video a while back where someone ls swapped a 996. I was like how???
Porsche hooked you so hard! They know you're a traveling beacon.
I've always been in love with Porsches. I learned to drive stick on my Dads 944 when I was 15 and spent a good 6 years thrashing it around my hometown canyon roads. Good memories.
Apollo 911!!!
magicboy10aa Yeah, 247000 miles... To the moon and back...
and then he blew the motor lol
Just what I was thinking.
Car is a keeper and so is your mrs!
Thank you, sir!
I seen an older guy who a one of the 356 models (can’t remember exactly which one) but he was literally able to get the car up to 1,000,000 miles. He said his dream was to get it to a million miles before he passed. Not sure if he is still alive or not but they advertised him here at Park Place Porsche in Dallas, I was getting my cayman serviced at the time, it was an unforgettable moment.
It was nice to see his Wife enjoying the cars too.
I love hearing stories of people who drive their sports cars...sad that it’s not the norm but it certainly tends to be a common thread that Porsches are very durable if properly maintained.
I slowly fell in love with this channel some great and funny stories.
I like this guy a lot- more people like him on this channel, PLEASE!
It is so nice to see someone actually use and enjoy their car!
There's no other way to do it!
I have over 125K on my 2005 997C2S 6 speed. It still has the original IMS bearing in the original engine. Great car.
I have driven 3 911s in the past week... a 996 and a couple 997s.... going to get a “driver” car for fun . Testimonials like these are very good for building the case with my wife.... keepem coming...!
Awesome. Be sure to post the ones you look at on the VINwiki app!
That’s exactly my dream, cross country road trip in a 911
Now this guy was a much better story teller! Love that he uses his car!
Thanks for the compliments!
I think a big factor why Porsches seem to have so few issues compared to other sports cars, is people drive them every day. Also, the IMS was only an issue if the bearing wasn't getting lubricated after the initial grease was flushed out, which could happen if the car sat around a lot or was tracked a lot.
I believe the problem was due to the bearing being permanently lubricated. The oil pump is on the opposite side of the intermediate shaft and Porsche didn't design a way to pump oil to the IMS bearing at the back of the engine.
My 930 turbo has ~215k miles on it. One rebuild @ 100k. Drives like a dream.
That’s so cool you have a great relationship with your sister. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get my little sister to come see us unless I bait her by telling her my sons are here 😂
We are really close and only wanted to kill each other once on that 2 week road trip ha! 14 hours in a car at once together can test patience with each other at times :)
Depends if you abuse it on a track…
True, like Hoovy
Stan Mol exactly
Best thing to come to CZcams between this channel and Lowrider Roll Model
Truly enjoyed this story!
one of the main reasons i will always love Porsche! they're the only exotic car that you can drive to the track , beat on it on the track and then drive it home while also stopping for groceries! id like to see all the other Italian exotic car manufactures do that
He's the best interviewee this far. Get him back!
Thanks so much!
This is great! Epic road trip in a 911, hell yes! I did a road trip up the east coast all the way to Toronto from Texas in an STi and people thought I was nuts. I enjoyed every bit of it though!
Sounds like an awesome trip!
I have a 2001 dodge 1500 with 368,000 miles on it, it's been through 2 engines and 2 transmissions, but all other drive train parts are original. I just had it tuned up and it's still running strong. The paint is scratched to hell and back but it's a work truck so what do you expect.😎
EDIT: it has a new grill and bumper because I hit a deer a few years ago.
I was waiting on hearing about that IMS bearing 😂
You are my kind of car enthusiast! Well done!
Great story! Would love to have a 996
Get hoovie on this his story is real good
I live 30 minuets from Huntsville, now the car scene here is just beat up cars, 1 hellcat and 1 2009 Audi R8, there was a Porsche but I vaguely remember it since I was like maybe 6 or 7 when I saw it. it was a blue convertible
Hey VINwiki you guys should talk to Doug DeMuro, Hoovie, or Tavarish. They would have some great stories
997s are just fantastic cars, but not having driven a 993 I can't speak for it, but I would fully endorse the idea of you getting a 997
"My fiancé, soon to be my wife"... you don't say lol
My little IS250 is at 178,000 and still going strong! Toyota reliability right there
I have an old Mercedes that has 434,000 miles and still runs
Awesome story, I think I have to take a break from VinWiki, I've been watching this channel like my mom watches days of our lives.
I have a 1984 Carrera Cabriolet for sale. It has a California blue tag due to previous theft but clean title and matching engine and trans numbers. Runs strong. New clutch cable, fuel regulators and fuel lines cap rotor spark plugs.
Amazing story, I really enjoyed it. That is incredibly cheap maintenance!
My uncles 79 SC had 189,000 + miles last time I checked. My goal in life if I ever become the caretaker is to easily double those miles!
Great story, I must be blind because I figured it was Ed on the thumbnail.
Love this channel!
That's awesome, actually using it on a regular basis.
I'm the 911th like
Ahh VinWiki where all of my best ideas are born!
my fathers Cayenne is pushing 400,000, still running strong. love germans.
Awesome story! Makes me want to own a Porsche even more.
Tyler Hoover from Hoovies Garage got right under 250,000 on his 2004 and the dreaded bearing fail happened ON THE TRACK at 249,000 and its now a LS SWAP!!
I was so confused, he needed to prepare for the filming I stead of babbling half asleep
This guy is the man! I love porsches so I'm gonna daily drive a 911
Thanks, Riggin!
"He worked at Ford, but we always had 3 or 4 sports cars" hah!
Every car under the right conditions should exceed 200
Went from an 80s trans am to a 911! God damn
Awesome! Funny I just bought a 996 because I really miss my 84 which I can no longer afford.
Try that in a ferrari lol
ProjectGTR no thanks
It would explode after 100 miles over 2000RPM
Nothing than an "Italian Tune-up" can't solve.
*68 engine-out services later*
You don't lol
Excellent story, seems relatable for some reason
Stories. I love it!
Just awesome! Love the 996!
