Doug Demuro’s Dougscore?
Ed Bolian just surpassed me in likes... You guys let me down. How the hell am I supposed to Dougie now?

That is a lot of work to come up with less fun cars to buy for $100k than a flood title manual Gallardo Spyder.
That car probably has similar ptsd as Anakin skywalker… sand everywhere

Ed, come up to North Carolina I 'll take you on an amazing western NC backroads tour .
the best porsche under $100k is a used one that you already own and can sell at today's ridiculous premiums.
Lol Doug might be my favorite guest of yours. His enthusiasm about cars is so real and geniune. He’s not faking anything about it
It's great to see Doug Tabbut back in the Big Chair, in all his extra-medium goodness! I was concerned that Dougie had become domesticated. More Dougie is better than no Dougie! #SwitchCars
Watching this really makes me realize I sure do know nothing about Porsches. Looks like I've got some learning to do!
I like Borschas as much as the next guy, but aside from a few distinct models the only differences are tuned suspension, less horsepower, or stripped down version.
So happy this is a Doug story. Missed you and this is the PERFECT video for where I'm shopping. $100K is my top budget for the 4S I'm desperately wanting, but this may convince me to expand the search. Unfortunately to drive year round here in Upstate NY, I need the 4.
2016 981 Cayman GT4/ Boxster Spyder is the best for $100k
For me is the 2005 Cayman S. Cheap enough, a beautiful car even this days, not very heavy, fun to drive
This is the best story guy ever on this channel.
Dougie T. dropping that fresh Porsche knowledge on us! Great video, more Doug plz/thx!
Always worth hearing your opinion Doug, really glad I've got 5 of the car's you mentioned, Rj in Oz
I hadn't heard of the Boxter Spyder when I saw one for the first time. It had the basic canvas top on. I thought it was so cool that they had a proper roofless speedster. Iirc The canvas top just clips in the front and straps in the back.
Speed humps just complete the package for a beautiful retro-inspired design.
It really does for the Collin Chapnan mantra of "simplify, then add lightness"
Love that this is back!!!
I like Doug. He's "a lot of hilarious fun in a lightweight package for under a hundred thousand", as he says.
except when he had that cat put down that one time. :(
@@gaveintothedarkness whaaat? What video was it?
@@joshuagibson2520 It was a video about his corvette stored in a garage and how a cat kept sleeping and peeing on the car cover. He then had the cat put down because he didnt like the cat being a cat. It wasnt a stray either, it was someone's pet. I refuse to listen to his stories after that.
@@gaveintothedarkness as long as it was done humanely, I see no issue. Animals belong in the barnyard anyway. Whoever's pet it was should have kept it on their own property.

Glad Doug shares my feeligs about motors, gearing and turbos. I'm not crazy.
996 Turbo, actually obtainable easily under 100k and an amazing daily. Just makes sure the coolant line are welded or get it done yourself and then can track it as well.
They were reliably in the mid 50-60k range for years, how times change!
@@Tim51564 bought one for 30k back in April, sure it’s a Tip and higher miles, but a fun track car if you aren’t taking it serious enough for a dedicated car and can daily it, after a little work and the coolant line welding I think it was exactly what I wanted
Always like it when Doug shows up. Knowledgeable, great experience with the things he talks about, and stays in his lane of expertise. Good guest for vinwiki!
The first widebody porsche that wasnt a GT model with rwd and naturaly aspirated was the 964 WTL (werksturbolook, translates to factory turbo look) which were incredibly rare and are hard to find these days.
964 "Turbo Look" was a turbo with an N/A engine. The best Porsche body style. Good luck finding one, though.
996 Turbo with X50 package or 996 Turbo S.
*Edit* When have you have been able to get a 996 GT2 for under 100 grand? There's only 1200 made in the whole world.
I know where one is.... You probably don't want it
@@incar4805 Id gladly take one, if offered to me.

Any 924 or 944 in nice shape.

Unfortunately yeah. :(
Get a loan for an older Cayman....A sub 60k mile 987 chassis Cayman S can be found easily under $25k in excellent shape.....with just a set of cheap mufflers and a set of wheels/tires will drop a lot of weight and they become an amazingly fast, modern, comfortable, and monsterous sounding car!
Thanks for another interesting and informative video
Nice cars in the list!!!! Especially the 968 club sport!!! I drove one and man is that a car!!? Thanks for the list!! Greetz , ramon
The real upgrade on an old Porsche is tires. And you can get road feel by simply getting less sidewall
The Porsche 968 used VarioRam which was a variable induction system with an intake manifold that could extend the intake runner lengths depending on the RPM which produced more torque and horsepower throughout the RPM range and not a variable valve timing system like Honda’s VTEC that controls the ignition timing, fuel injection and valve operation to optimize power delivery. The two systems are totally different but regularly used together in modern cars.
So glad that boxster made the list. I've always loved those cars. Just incredible fun and without a huge price tag. And let's be honest, you can't put your foot down In an insane supercar in day to day driving.
6:40 - I'm sure some do, but lots of the 996 owners in groups I'm in have a lot of love for the Bosters. Many own both a 911 and a Boxster.
As of Sep, 996 GT2s are going for ~$150k. Prices went nuts over the last year.
Greetings from the Burg. Doug certainly has more connections to obtain some of these for that amount. I was looking at GT3's before the spike and they were north of 100...unless it was wrapped around a tree, then they were only asking $80ish...
A sub 60k mile 987 chassis Cayman S(The S specifically is the good one) can be found easily under $25k in excellent shape.....with just a set of cheap mufflers and a set of wheels/tires will drop a lot of weight and they become an amazingly fast, modern, comfortable, and monsterous sounding car for as low of HP as they make!
Great review.
I went with a ‘13 991.1 C4 w/high miles alá EB-style. It’s so much fun.
I have a 1992 968 convertible and it is so much fun to drive
Any Doug video is great!
Those older boxsters are just hard to find. Agree they are fantastic. The 981 is just about perfect as a drop top road car. Thanks Doug for the advise!
Great list, the 996s and Boxster Spyders are definitely underappreciated cars.
Porsche offered rear wheel drive turbo look (widebody) starting with the 3.2 Carrera in '84
Trolling Magus Walker at the very end 🤣

I love that teal one, it’s super cute!
what is the price difference for 993 C2S for one with the tip vs one with a manual?
I'm gonna use the values I looked up in 2009
Glad to meet you last weekend in indy Doug.. I hope you enjoyed that bagel..
M491 (turbo look) package offered on the Gbody was the first N/A & RWD 911 that was not a special edition.
996 turbo with a fresh IMS bearing is my dream. BBS wheels and KW suspension followed by easy reliable bolt on power and call it perfect. Someday fried egg headlights will be mine, some day.
996 turbo don't need IMS replaced. All else you can get for sure.
Idk why but I love this guy.
This video exists only so Doug can geek out

@@mihan2d I think you’re getting a dune buggy with a 2L or a Subaru-swapped Beetle confused with a Porsche. If only you could truly swap parts you could make a legendary sleeper, but the suspension is just a *little* different.
997.2 GTS-PDK-Highly specced, 10k miles. That's what I would get.....and did.

On the "the only wide body non-turbo" comment, didn't the 911 in the late 80's come in a 'turbo look' wide body that was just a 911 with no turbo? Not sure if that was factory or a dealer-install or aftermarket, but I remember longing for one back in the day.
You are correct, although it was a special option like the slantnose, “M491” - they are very rare and getting incredibly expensive now.
Porsche vtec is fine! 914's my personal favorite!
After I fully complete uni I want a Porsche right away
Most likely I’ll be able to afford a 996 era boxster or a cayman

Man, Doug's stories are pure money. Nice.
Just an idea for Doug and maybe for the rest of the contributes, to go into the car roster of video games, like real racing 3 and other major games and talk about the cars in real life. How they drive, a bit of background, values and other tibbits that can be applied.
That's not a bad idea. Maybe someone like The Dude in Blue, or Randy Pobst. If Ed does another AMA, it would be a good question to pitch.
Great idea 👌

I hope this doesn't get lost in the shuffle, when an AMA is announced or lost right now.
Budget Porsche... Isn't that an oxymoron? I love the 914-6. Lots of power to be had in the 2 liter, and putting a 2.4 or 2.7 in it makes it really fun.
someone i know got a 1996 993 C2, one owner 35k miles for 80k
Good list Doug, but wouldn’t say 981 Spyder (2016) is “slightly different” in its suspension versus the GT4..... they are night and day in terms of handling and hence why the 718 Spyder is the best Spyder in my opinion, because of the Motorsports derived suspension components give it so much more steering feel, handling precision, and (shockingly) better ride quality
Unfortunately a 718 Spyder goes for $125K or more. I have a 981 Spyder and won’t ever sell it.
@@clu4u I had a 981 Spyder before the 718 and I loved that car and particularly its wonderful exhaust note, however, I’ve been to spoiled by the 718 Spyders ride/handling/steering to go back
A Cayman or Boxster GTS
For me it's a 993 Targa Manual. It's the perfect mix of driving pleasure and a cabriolet for sunday drives. And it looks way better than the cabriolet...
love the Targas, though for me the 996 or 7 tickles the right spots.
