      I think the best thing people can do is check up on each other. Reach out to those friends you avoid because you don't know what to say or how to react when they are hurting. Ask them how you can help them. Bring them coffee and cigarettes. Ask them if they need a hug. Make them laugh..

    Why is it that every time I listen to a song by Sinead O'connor, I can't hold back the tears?... She was and continues to be a force of nature... the heart, soul and spirit of Ireland... In my heart, I believe she is FINALLY at rest and peace in the hands of God... pure unselfish love... What a gift from God to all of us... So grateful for her life and legacy !!!! (So choked up right now... I need to go outside just to breathe...)

      I'm cryinh now, ironically after watching her sing "The Wolf is Getting Married" on Graham Norton. Best of her live performances...or right up there. This grief is definitely getting worse as-the months wear on and the shock off. Reading comments of strangers who share these emotions is about the only balm for it.

    Sinead is my ALL TIME FAVORITE female vocalist ever!!! My heart is so very tragically broken by how she suffered so in her last days and how she was taken from all of us. She was a singular talent. She didn't just have an incredible command over her voice and use it in so many creative and distinctive ways, but she spoke what she believed, bared her soul and did the best she could to live a regular life. There was little pretense with her unlike so many other musicians. I read about it all over the internet. When I hear her sing traditional Irish songs, it stirs the depths of my soul as I have Irish ancestry. Nothing compares to her!!!

  • @noreennellis2953
    @noreennellis2953 Před 10 měsíci +21

    I'll be honest. I'm a few years older than Sinead but I love Irish singers, being Irish myself. The only two songs I'd heard her sing were Nothing Compares 2 U and Sacrifice. I loved this voice. Then October 3, 1992 she turned the world on it's axis and the stations I was listening to just stopped cold dead playing her. Other than seeing an occasional eye popping headline (she was entertaining) I had no idea she was suffering so, I wish that I had paid closer attention. I had no idea that she had other music. I also had no idea the way New York treated this young petite 25 year old, female visitor to our country when she left the studio that night by pelting her with eggs. An abuse survivor literally being assaulted without bothering to understand what her motivation was. The excuse might be well we didn't know, but that would've rung hollow.
    So I heard this song 3 days ago and I cannot help but feel like America robbed her and itself of her incredible and honest view of the world. I think she was really underrated and undervalued. This song though, was so strong and she was so strong and f beautiful. I can't help but remember that icon of Catholic virtue Madonna saying she looked like she had a run-in with a lawnmower and had the sex appeal of a venetian blind. Madonna was never attractive on any level and Sinead looked great with or without hair. I will be spending the coming days trying to acquire or listen to everything and anything I can. But in the end, we lost her. Ireland lost her. And I am just sadder than I thought I could ever possibly be over the last 30 years for her. I certainly never thought she'd beat me off this rock.

    • @malucax1275
      @malucax1275 Před 9 měsíci +8

      I am a few years younger than Sinead and have been a fan since I've known her voice, actually the ripping up of the Pope's picture impressed me almost more than her music, as I was leaving the Catholic curch around the same time myself. I had aquired a few of her CD's during the last years. "Universal Mother" being on of my favourites, but never got around to get "I'm Not Bossy. I'm the Boss" or "What About I be Me (And You be You)?" although just the title of these CDs impressed me very much. Had lost a bit of track of her as I'd spent much time in South America during the last 30 years and there's so much great music over there as well. I now deeply regret never have been able to see her live (though I do own a copy of her live DVD "The Value of Ignorance / The year of the Horse", which I've watched numerous times). Since she died I've been down the rabbit hole of Sinead's videos on CZcams and I fell in love with her even more, watching many interviews. The sad truth is, she was mismanaged as well, struggeling financially, was forced to sell her house during the pandemic (which might have also triggered her son to commit suicide, who knows?) and I feel ashamed now, that I didn't know, I feel guilty for not having bought the CDs or contributed to her income more. If I'd only have known. She would have needed a good person by her side during her life to stick by her side and help her emotionally as well as managing her in a way that she would not have to bother about money at this stage of her life. So many people loved her and her music, she gave so much to all of us, why couldn't we give back more to her? We need to watch out for our artists more.

    She clearly was struggling so much with her past and faith, they haunted her until the very end. You can notice like so many abused Irish Catholic women, she tried many times to repair her life and take console in Christianity, but no one was helping her, that she totally went 180 and converted to Islam.

      Upon my recent first hearing her & Willie Nelson's cover of Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush's "Don't Give Up", after Willie's usual "speaking" singing of the first verse, when Sinead started to sing, I felt (like in ALL she sang!) the raw emotion/pure energy hit me like a thunderbolt! It moved me so much that I immediately began to sob and, after only a few seconds, had to stop playing it as it was simply overwhelming! THAT was the genius that was Sinead O'Connor, and that shall forever be her legacy!! xoxo

    Nothing Compares 2 U was her iconic piece when she was alive, but I think this track is going to be a larger part of her legacy since she has died. I can't express the level of gratitude I have for Sinéad O'Connor; I was a 25-year-old cynical Irish boy when this song came out, and to now hear it echoed across the last decade of my life and all that has changed brings chills and reminds me how important this woman was to me and to Ireland. RIP.

She was no longer writing about her painful and tormented past. She lived 20 mins away from me in bray. She was a very private person. She bought a place in roundwood. Where she wrote her memoir. After she sold her place in bray. Roundwood is a very remote part of wicklow

    Your music has been a comfort during the tormenting bouts of insanity and your life was an inspiration which I always strove to imitate during my brief moments of lucidity.
    My heart is beyond broken! You paid your dues and the whole world owes you! The world lost its fiercest warrior today. More a man than any man, a great brother in time of need, and a mother/father of the church that was most sorely needed. Thank you for tearing down Popes that needed to be, and thank you for not bowing before any king!

    That red wig is haunting. She is wearing it for her sister, who had beautiful red hair. Their mom used to ridicule the lass as a ginger & called her ugly. That is part of why Sinead shaved her head, because their mom would compare them & with the ginger to have hair like Sinead had.

I've been listening to her music for thr first time every day now since her passing. Her songs sound timeless and unique. I've read her book and have seen her documentary. Powerful soul.
