One Day On The Atlantic Ocean

- Being a bit useless in the sailing department I decided to pick up a camera and go to work there instead. This was the day before Elayna cut her hair so apologies for the out of sync. We were only going to show this to Patrons and then decided to share with everyone.
Let me know what you think.

Yeah. I have to say, I really like the Riles styles. It's very real, it puts me on the boat in a very authentic way. It may not be cinematic like how the lady edits, not that Elayna's isn't awesomely done, I simply like the different style to add another element to the channel. It feels like I'm on the boat. ⛵ I really enjoy virtually sailing with you both vicariously. So great. I can't do it too much longer. I'm going sailing and travelling.
Nice job, I like seeing the normal daily stuff. One thing that I haven’t seen... operation of the dagger board. When, how and why? Thanks! Keep up the great work and quit smackin your noggin on stuff.
EXPLORATION ECHO Couldn't have said it better myself....so I won't! Cheers
His sense of humour also helps.... Riley's videos rocks! Both literally and figuratively.
Totally agree, I like the more real, less polished type of video. This was great, really felt like we were on the boat with them! Good job Riley.
The main ingredient of that awesome breakfast plate served to Riley was love. Kudos Alayna!
Yes,,, this exactly
Definitely need more of these impromptu Riley videos. It contrasts so well with Elayna's weekly cinematic episodes.
Yes please do more! Elayna is so good at putting together the episodes but I think you are there now as well. It puts a smile on my face to see 12-15 ktns all the time while "not pushing it." I am looking forward to seeing the different passage times from the crossing in the old boat and the cat.
My favorite sort of these videos are when you're showing how things are done on the boat, or how you fix stuff, or just how things can go wrong. It's all very interesting and thank you both for sharing.
Guys i love this video! Riley I think you're ready to make an episode! And Elayna you looked so endearing with your slightly being bothered by Riley's constant banter. It's that special annoyance that comes only with being in love. It's so precious :)
Just started viewing your videos. Grew up in Panama. Old enough to be your dad. Love this adventure known as your life. Don’t stop, don’t ever take it for granted, because it is special and many of us are wishing we were there. Savor it, and each other. Smooth sailing friends!
I really liked "One Day On the Atlantic" for me that is one of my favorites see your actual day from the mundane household chores to the duties of sailing on the open sea...weather ...clouds....ocean conditions, etc. Keep up the good work and take care with the neck issue.
To be honest. If you put a video of a floating patch of seaweed i'd be the first to watch it :) Great video Riley. Maybe this type of Vlog could turn into a regular midweek things. Call it "A Day with Riles" or something like that. You would get vlogin skills up up too!!
hell yeah! I love this idea?!?!
I would actually sign up for patreon just for this. I like Rileys perspective.
I agree, I enjoy your videos. Great idea on the "day with railey"
H ahah ""floating patch of sea weed" I would be here watching as well, as I'm sure most of us would as fascinating as they are!!
I'm curious if they live fulltime on here, and or does it get cold water/weather they stay out in...so many questions lol...and I've watched so many videos. This looks like such an adventure everyday. So jealous.
Yes....great idea. I liked the format of this vlog. Nice work guys, keep it up...stay safe!
Love your vids Riles!! I liked the rawness of this one, Elayna sleeping/chillin on the couch, instruction on sailing etc. Veddy veddy gooood!
Yeah MORE OF THESE! I love it. Plain and simple, and it shows SAILING. I love that you explain what's going on while on passage, sail plan, PredictWind, and all that stuff. Keep it coming!
That's the real stuff. Please more of that!
The perspective of what is needed to be done to get the boat going is much appreciated. The social aspects of your journey can be enticing but the intricates of running the boat are much more fascinating. Thank you.
Actually this is exactly the sort of sailing video i enjoy.
informative and showing real life on the water (like doing the dishes on the high seas) and a few sailing tips as well.
Please do keep it up.
thanks for the upload
+1
Absolutely love daily vlogs, well most of your days are daily vlogs haha but yeah. Not many of us live on a boat it is all entertaining on our end. Film what ever you want R&E there's always a audience. Riley, Elay has kicked the production value way up but you are soo close to getting a Numbered video again sooo close. Bilgy in the corner riding shotgun would give you a million hits for another "official SLV vlog" numbered vid. Love the banter on the subject, made me smile. PS love that wave at the 8:30 mark gorgeous. Cheers steve
Steve Loop haha for sure bring back Bilgy
Riley, I really enjoy watching your entries due to learning the technical bits of sailing. I know its probably not the most popular of all the video segments but navigation, maintenance, and sailing in general are all some of my favorite parts of episodes.
Please do keep them coming Riley. I've "been aboard" LaVaga for a couple of years now and I always appreciate learning about the nuts and bolts of the boat. Your hands on, true to life videos have a unique value that bridges the gap between real life experience and book knowledge which makes them a rare thing... Please don't undervalue the episodes like this because they're largely the reason I tune in...
Hell don't stop. Make more, they're awesome. Thanks for all your videos. I wish you could somehow convey the beauty of a clear night sky from the middle of the ocean.
100% would love to see more videos like this. A very personal approach which I very much enjoyed✌🏻
I really loved this one! I've been enjoying the whole Atlantic crossing in a different way than the other episodes. The fact that you're showing some anodyne, sad and anxious moments, as well as the good and happy, adds a depth to the videos that I love. It really takes you into the boat. Routine and hardship are part of life, we form our identities around them, they're attractive in their own way. Thank you for doing this! Gracias y mucha suerte!
Really enjoyed it Riley. Your effort gets us on the water with you and takes us along with a feel for the boat and the demands she puts on both you and Elayna. More please..
Yes MORE ! MORE !! To me it is interesting to see how the navigation is done , and how you plan your route,as you go along, from day to day . It's not the least bit boring , at least not to me . One other thing , I know nothing about sailing , but have heard, that when you are sailing , even on rough { sea's } you can sometimes make the experience , less jarring , and more tolerable , by turning , or { taking ? sp. ?? } into the waves . Maybe I'm just an oddball , but facts like that interest me , good luck along your journey , be careful with that neck , may you have fair weather , and smooth sailing , God Speed . Jack
I personally like the daily logs. Love seeing day to day life and chores. Keep it real, it is reality TV you know!
This is the first channel I have subscribed to ever. I live on my boat 6 months a year but nothing like you two. I really enjoy watching these video's! As with you my first boat was my very first experience boating. I have never been sailing but I found it better to learn as I went along with duel engines. Power boating versus sailing seams to be quite easier. So far, haven't hit anything in 4 years. Watching both of your video's usually winds me down after work. Thanks for sharing your stories!
Day to day sailing life is what got me hooked since the early days, so keep the daily life episodes coming .love what y'all do!
Having watched you guys and a few others (obviously you're the number 1) for a long time now, I have finally purchased my first boat today! An 18 ft clinker with a small cabin, so I won't be catching you anytime soon but I'm looking forward to some adventures! Thanks for the inspiration and helping keep dreams alive.
Jon F
Nice 👍🏼 buddy I just bought one too
Great minds think alike obviously. And for want of a better phrase, summer's coming.
Keep on keepin' on with the vlogs Riley. They are the glue in between all the regular episodes, binding them all together. Plus, at the end of the day you do seem to enjoy doing them which is a win win situation for viewers and adventurer.
Love these videos where you show more realisms of daily sailing. Just the right amount of you and Elaina relationship (smiles) and spectacular wave and sky shots. Would like more fishing, if you get the chance. Sandra and I would love to crew for you when you get back to the states or Caribbean. Thanks for your enthusiasm and courage. Your both in our daily prayers, so "Do not be afraid".
Riley, though Elayna puts out fantastic and professional videos, we want to see more of yours, as well. You add a flare to you guy's story and show more of the actual sailing stuff. Thanks, keep 'em comin'!
I feel like this type of video is more honest to who you are. I enjoyed it more than the new norm.
It has the look and feel of the first season with better camera work. It was why I originally started watching. It conveys the realities of cruising. This past season seems to be more of a travel blog. Keep up the great work Riley. Hope you are able to heal up and enjoy pushing the envelope again!
Definitely good enough for a “cheap arse Tuesday” series 😜
Keep it up 👍🏻
I really love this episode for just showing us the day in the life when sailing. It is nice seeing a little "behind the scenes" so to speak. Definitely would love to see more.
Entirely Unfair-
There's the romantic and beautiful sites and picturesque portrayal of boating and the ocean, edited with the RIGHT music showing mostly the good times! (thanks Elayna)
BUT, there is also the regular everyday stuff that would have most people pulling out their own hair! No-one films this because most people wouldn't watch- but your attitude is very uplifting (everyone would watch that with you/ needs to see it). You have what it takes to be out there! I think it's important for people to see it's not all Sun- sets and wine. You need to be able to recognise when your voltage regulator isn't producing the correct voltage, and when your starter goes bad you do need to know how to use a screwdriver to jump past the starter relay. Maintenance in general- makes your patrons feel like your REALLY working for your $$$ :)
Keep up the good work Riley!
I remember when you two made a video trying to put a serpentine belt back on (shaking my head-Wtf) but thats the part of boating that makes the sunset, with the right girl, and the right music, 100x more rewarding and worth making a video of.
Forget about the commercialization of it- don't make it a competition- just make more videos- your style!
Riley, like you said, it's good to learn so even the most mundane things onboard are interesting. Just to see how many little skills sailors use in a day is noteworthy. It helps my spouse and I plan and prepare for our eventual sailing adventures so keep churning out the videos.
Yes - I liked it a lot because it feels more real - thumbs up - all the best to you and good wind!
I think it's a great way for Riley to share more detailed technical aspects of sailing that the general crowd might not be as interested in. I found this one very enjoyable.
Very organic, no bells and whistles. This is what makes watching your v-logs so enjoyable.
One of the most interesting videos you've produced in a long time, this is what I'm after--details about life at sea, not just life while visiting exotic locations. Give us more of these! And more "Produced by Riles"!
Really interesting!
I would really like to see more from you Riley *:)*
This is the type of videos that originally made me start watching. I want to see more of the sailing and workings of the boat. I watch the sailing vlogs to learn what life at sea is like not so much for the travel destinations. There are thousands of travel destination vlogs and tv shows to see that. Actual life on the cat is what I enjoy.
I really enjoy these style episodes - it's like a "behind the scenes" of the regular ones.
Enjoyed ! Please, don't stop doing these kind of daily vlogs. Perhaps, with all of the extra editing and filming experience you'll earn Elayna's approval and earn a digit"ed" episode !!!(BTW-I think that you already deserve it !, though that is just my opinion and, obviously, doesn't count only Elayna's !).
I like your daily blogs. It's nice to see the boat and all her systems in action. You sure could cover that angle Riley if you wanted too. People would love to see more of the navigation, electronics and rigging. And I know I'm still waiting to hear about this engine module situation. Is that covered under the warrantee? You guys are going through those like frozen pizzas. Anyway, good video mate. Elayna is still much better at it though. It's a skill that she has for narrating, editing and music for sure. But you'll find you path. Remember, there is no "i" in "boat". Let E do the Patreon videos and you do your blog. It's all good!!
Riley, don't stop this. I love these day vlogsnand love when you show detailed technical parts as weather routing etc.thanks for that.
You two just crack me up. I so enjoy seeing the dynamics between you. Thank you for sharing so much of your adventures and lives!
One of my favorite videos by you guys. Nice job Riley
Hi guys
been hearing about you for ages and just watched you for the first time.
Love it!
I just started a channel of my life since buying my boat .
I have dreams. .plans to take her around the world also.
I've had a facebook page since early in the piece and have given my you tube channel the same name "50 Something Girl with a Boat "
Would love you to follow me if you'd like to. Hope to see you on the water somewhere.
Happy sailing.
Daniel Johns, Captain, Mate. Never let the crew talk you out of a breakfast toastie. Give an inch, and lose a mile. Frogstomp.
Riley I am mightily impressed with the power learning curve you’ve taken from casual crew to seasoned captain of the La Vagabond! I have a brother who had bought a sailboat having never sailed much either. He was living aboard offshore and did some casual sails until he set sail through the infamous Hawaiian Ala nui nui strait single sail during a nasty weather. He hand steered harnessed in with his dog locked in the hold for safety over 12 hours but he didn’t sink. Now my brother never had ever been afraid of anything but this trip really spooked him. He sold the boat and decided not to continue. So can you try to discuss how to deal with the fears and uncertainties of scary weather or equipment failures? You are both AWESOME!😎
More please Riley. Keep it going. the 2 styles of video can, and will only ever compliment each other, the reality along with the dream gives a fuller picture of your journey and dreams.
Love it man, good video.. Definitely do more like these....
I liked this chill style of video
I love it. It is definitely a dream to cross an ocean. It is also the unknown that is the scariest. You let us see your encounters and it makes it so much more inviting.
Riley, you make sailing look so easy. I can't imagine how long it took you to learn all this stuff and what you have gone through to make it look so effortless. I really enjoy watching you two,. Keep it up!
Seriously such a new side of your guys story! I loved every second. I felt like I was there
YES MORE!!!
Hey I really enjoyed this! I loved that I really got a feel of "just a regular day at sea" and just seeing your daily routine like waking up in the morning and seeing what you do, like brushing your teeth and checking the weather and the rigging was really interesting! I appreciated that it wasn't overly edited or polished. It was all real and authentic and different from the other vlogs which was a nice change. I hope your don't stop your daily vlogs, they're so good!
Bro, we like both of you equally. You guys are charismatic and fun to watch. The other sailing channels are just about bikinis. You guys are the real deal.
New vibe, fresh, quite attractive, certainly good direction.
Definitely enjoyed it. For my taste, I like behind the scenes stuff fixing stuff, and interviews with people you meet, especially crusty salts.
-johnny
Would love more laid back vids like this! Seeing the things you guys get up to in your down time, interests, what you guys eat and cook when you’re out at sea and book recommendations ect would be awesome!!
These pure sailing episodes are simply the best ones mate! Can almost feel the wind. Good work, keep it up for sure!
Yeah, you did an awesome job on this video Riley. My wife and I cruise the south pacific islands at least twice a year, and I spend an enormous amount of time just looking at the ocean. Need to get myself a boat to live on.⛵ Look....no spelling mistakes! Hahaha.
I enjoyed this how your day is while sailing view......thanks Riley!
Yes! Well done Riley. I was unaware you weren't doing it all along with Elayna. I really like it when the camera is stationary on deck so we can see the sea and the waves as apposed to you holding the camera compensating for the roll. Great job. Keep them coming.
Cheers,
Jay
Excellent video Riley, you transported your audience and gave us a true feeling of sailing the open seas. Thank you
Loved the extra video! Great seeing more of you guys :)
More Bilgey! The hardest I have laughed in all your episodes was a solo vlog. The one with "Goddam it Bilgey Pull!"
I second that...miss the bilgey banter.
I would like to see Ozzyman do a bit on Riley's Bilgey affection.!!
I suspect Bilgey has been deep sixed! Alas.
I enjoyed this "day in the life" video. It allows us to see what a sailors life is like. Thank you.
Every video you guys make is always good and welcomed. Riley, you did great and I'd love to see more because you are genuine and I just love your laughter.
Like old times love it
3:42 Gotta save that for later. Just too perfect
Absolutely make more like this! I love 'a day in the lfe' kind of videos, with all the nitty-gritty, the little things that get filtered out in the normal videos. Its a more slow video but its useful to realize is not all running and exploring and fast sailing, that the life has his tempo and one must learn to enjoy it.
This is a great episode. Raw, Real and Riley. Great to get a different perspective on the boat and sailing. We want more Riley, WE WANT MORE !!!! :)
Cool video! I'd love to see more videos along the lines of this, a day in the life, etc. What'd be really cool is to see a few tutorial-type videos.
Keep 'em sailing!!
You actually have a really good point, I've learned more cooking recipe's than I have sailing tips in the 100 or so videos I've seen =P
Nailed it Buddy 👍 Nice change of pace
Yes yes yes, keep them coming. It’s personal and relaxed and a real treat. Best wishes and prayers for safe journeys and healing.
These videos always bring a smile to my face even in the darkest days. Thank you guys for sharing your amazing journey. I wish you guys only the best!
I enjoyed this unnumbered episode!
AWESOME RILEY!!!!!
I really really love Riley's style and video content. It's wonderful seeing all the amazing places you visit and great camera work and Elayna's editing, but I think it should be mixed up with a bit of Riley's corner. I love the technical side and the real life side of your travels, the day to day events and jobs that are not all glamorous but add so much to the whole experience. Riley's gives out a wonderful passion and love for what you are both doing, as you both do and it's obvious that's why he first wanted to get out on the water and sail. Personally I'd love to understand and see more of the technical, legistical issues you guys encounter on your travels. I would like to offer one idea which maybe Riley could take up outside of your regular videos. I'd tiltle it "Riley - One leg or two, Mono vs Cat". With the thousands of miles around the world your guys have travels in all sorts of conditions, with the first few years in a Mono Hull and now many months experience in your first Cat, what are the Pro's and Con's, if you had a choice all over again which would you choose or do differently? The only real videos our there are by major magazines, and are alway bias and make comments based on hours or just days of experience. I'd love to hear your real life views! Please please please Riley. PS. The Vaga is beautiful, you have 2 lovely ladies in your life. Thanks Geoff
I love how real and authentic this vlog felt! Gives you a new perspective! I really enjoyed it and hope you keep making more of these in-between the episodes! Almost like a "behind the scenes" raw footage!
We like your usual videos but this just a normal day at sea video was pretty cool to watch!
Riles, any day where going to work includes drinking a beer can't be such a bad day on the job!!!
Yes Riley.
Put some of that routine on camera from time to time, so we can be more inside the adventure :)
For me, sailing isn't only looking for sunrise, sunset, eat, sleep, manage the autopilot and arriving at any exotic place....
Also the "other side" that usually we don't see, like all the sh...t, fun, boring routines, accidents (like your recent fall and neck problems)... all that between departure from one place to arriving on the other :)
For that, this kinda "1 day on a life of..." are great way to get me inside of the "sailing thing" :)
Well done Riley :)
Cesar
It's like these Riles episodes are for the sailing enthusiasts and the numbered episodes for the general SLV(ille) community. I like 'em both. Feel free to go a little nerdier, Riley. Engine maintenance, anchor tips etc. I'm a big fan of you both. Keep up the good work.
love all the videos! Keep them coming. You guys are the best.
Amazing, thanks for sharing. Would love to go sailing as well
I like the Riley vlogs. I'd like to see more about the day to day operations of the boat. More of the technical stuff like the maintenance and repairs.
Just woke up here in Toronto, drinking my cappuccino and I really enjoyed watching this casual update kind of video. It blends in well with the themed /planned videos. It's like getting an amusing text from a friend in the morning!
Enjoyed this video!
Best Vid in a long time
Somewhat agree.
Totally agree!!
Great video! When I was a kid I always felt free just being out on the sea in my little boat.
Great job with the video Riley you are inspiring and you def have the ability to educate others in lots of areas in life.👍🏼 blessings to you and your family🌈 safe sailing!🔱
Two observations from me. 1. I like these type videos in addition to the usual ones. 2. Riley, you are truly a fortunate man to have found Elayna. In addition to her natural beauty she is a joy to have onboard. The chemistry between you two is wonderful to watch!
this was a brilliant video. nice to have a bit extra that's a lil different from the norm
I've never not liked a single one of your videos. Inspirational and sometimes scary.
Struth Riles, it's great to see the day to day stuff and for people that don't sail or the people who dream to go off sailing, explaining some of the terms used in the sailing world. I miss some the explaining of why your doing some of the technical parts of sailing. Great video Riles, keep up the great work.
I was on DD-784 from 1965 to 1968 and spent 2 cruises from long beach california to viet nam. When at sea the waves are nice to watch but its the clouds that supply the variety. I like being out at sea, you really feel the presence and power of God. We are quite at the mercy of nature when at sea. Makes us understand our individual in significance. It makes perfect sense that a star ship would be crewed by the Navy. I suggest the movie "Master and Commander"
I love your videos you are living my dream its so cool love you guys keep them coming I could watch you guys all day.👍👍👍👍👍
Really enjoyed it keep them coming!
Perfect! A 10 minute "Whatsup" video. More. More.
I can't wait for Riley's "numbered episode" editting debute.. I really enjoy passage episodes and really liked this look at the daily,,, I've been a fulltime liveaboard/cruiser, on Puget Sound for last 7 yrs, and would not concider ever moving back on dirt. The beauty and freedom of this lifestyle that we live is like no other. Fair winds, Friends.
Special people, living a special life, and special that you choose to share it with us. Thank you!
