- The Persian Wars were fought between the Greeks and Persians over two thousand years ago. Their battles originated for many of the same reasons wars happen today - resources, pride, revenge and prejudice.

Also when Cyrus the Great invaded Greece. The king of Greece told the Iranians we are fighting for honor but you for wealth! And Cyrus the Great replied: Yes, everyone fights for what he does not have !!! (:
Nailed it 👌 👏
But dude those were greek city states
They were not united at the time of invasion
Alexander united the hellenic world
@@historicallegends3702 There is no such thing at all!
@@historicallegends3702 nope, brutal tyranny is not unity, and they lost against the Persians because of their disunity.
Iran won.
And he wants Greece, and didn't get it!

As a Zoroastrian Persian, i can say our people have nothing but admiration and love for the greeks. Its them first and then the romans. But no other culture in the world is as dear to us than the Greeks. Love and respect.
Talk for yourself
I thought Zoroastrianism in Iran was eliminated by Arab Muslims during the Arab invasion of Persia.
@Ευαγγελος Αγγελος thanks but westerns messed our history with hilarious things like 300 movie

Darius was Cyrus's son in law and most trusted general, not son.

Darius was one of the generals of Cyrus who came to power after the assassination of the false king of the Achaemenid Empire.
Thank You so much, this was a very nice, detailed video i sure did learn a lot!
I used this for my homework
im using it for my test that im currently taking
Great video, very helpful
Loved this.
Good work buddy
Darrius was not Sirus's son, Sirus had two sons . Cambudiah (who conquered Egypt) and Bardia (who were assassinated by cabudiah) . Darrius was Sirus's nephew who unified Persia again.
A tiny bit wrong. Darius Murdered Bardaya/Smerdis to take the throne in 522bc after the death of cambyses (cabudiah).
Currently tryna type a 2 page essay due tomorrow wish me luck 😔

@@Mc-vw2fd you sure about that? Don't you think that persians used rhinos and elephants and giants against Spartans?
@@Mc-vw2fd lol no. American education everyone.
Look up the battle of Marathon, it took place around 10 years before this battle, but the Persians had such obsolete weapons and armour that the Greeks only lost 200 soldiers, since their weapons couldn’t penetrate the Greek hoplite armour, while the Persians took thousands of them
Perfect animation, sound, timing, voice, and well said ❤️🇮🇳
This video was very useful for my project
the Roman and Persian War was the longest conflict in human history, lasting discontinuously over 680 years... still no one talks about it , Highlights it or make movie about it... they always talk about two time war of Greeks and Persians war (Darius and Xerxes).
Interesting point. The Byzantine Empire is also hardly mentioned in mainstream history books - but was one of the longest lasting and most powerful empires ever.
Mythical Simorgh ...cause the roman luciferian empire had about 2 millian more soldiers envolved...Greeks kill 60 to 1 odds lol and italians are Greek blood...Romansare false jesuits...thats probably why lol
China vs Nomads was the longest

Athens and Macedonia touch with his people [armed and unarmed ] by Persians 😂😂 roman and Persians war was between 2 great Empire of all time both sides get vixt but most was with Persians! actually Leonitus took roughly 7000 men to thermoplaly, but a Greek trator told the Persians of a secret passage the Persians could take to get behind the spartans. When the Spartans found out all but 300 men retreated. The Spartans fought till death. when Leonitus was killed the Spartans defended it desperately, but the Persians killed all 300 Spartans decapitated Leonitus's head and put it on a spear, walked to Athens, and but it to the ground.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey shows exactly this
ههههه 😂😏 این فقط ی رویا و افسانه هه
Thats true. Everybody says this bulls*t that there were only 300 spartans while there were 7K greeks and they retreated.

Iran didn't ruin Greek's buildings ! But they did , They ruined "Takhte Jamshid " !
cuz they were the real bar bar they were wild with poor culture , Cyrus never did such a thing with them while he had the power to wipe the greeks

We watched this in our social studies class, I love it. Good Job :D
There's a typo in the last callout: "becuase"
In thermopylae war, leonidas had 7000 soldiers.
got a 1000 word essay due in 2 hours, i got this, only thanks to this video
Bro I had to watch this for a school thing but now I'm just curious about the music in the background. Sadly no one is talking about this in the comments.
amazing
Wow thanks
no actually King leonidous had 7,000 Greeks but it wasn't too the last day that he released all the other soldiers leaving only his 300 Spartans
SHARK MASTER It wasn't just his 300 soldiers by the end. The Thespians refused to retreat and the Thebans were thought to be turncoats so Leonidas forced them to remain to show they were not and to ensure their military power was smaller if they did join the other city states that surrendered to Persia. There was probably about 1,500 men who remained to sacrifice their lives for the Athenian people and all of Greece.
@@raynes6286 yes you are right 1500 fought but 300 did the most
Styx Hellmouth It’s hard to say who did the most. If not for the Athenians at sea then the battle would have been ended in a day, as the Persians would have flanked the Greeks on land (as they later did) via a sea landing. The Spartans also never fought alone, right up until the end they’re we’re Greeks from otter city states with them who refused to flee when ordered to. At the end they were supposedly fighting with fists and teeth.
But certainly the 300 Spartans characterise the event and the spirit of the battle.
@@raynes6286 yes you are right lacedemonians get the mvp they fought till the end also the navy fight was not equal persians hate way more people they just got outplayed smart greekz
But are these numbers not really overrated, even for the Persians. What was the population at the time for them to have up to 10 thousand thousand soldiers.
Just saying ooo
This was actually really helpful! Thanks!
What's the song in the background called

My social studies made my class watch this
Darius was not son of Cyrus but a distant cousin.
Notes: to compare Persian and Greek society, in Persia, slavery was forbidden all workers including those who built Persepolis, the system was based on meritocracy not race so many greeks could reach to high ranks in Persia, unlike greeks women had good status, Artemisia of Caria was an example of a greek woman leading Persian navy, freedom of religion was enforced, Darius erected the second temple of jews and many temples for egyptians, pax Iranica which lasted for centuries made a peaceful atmosphere for triving culture
There's so much bullshit in your comment, it's staggering.

An entire war because one man got his head shoved through the side of a boat.
Darius was his successor. Cambyses and Smerdis were Cyrus's sons.
Darius was NOT Cyrus' son, y'all! His most trusted general and son-in-law (although I can't recall if he only married Cyrus' daughter after Cyrus' death idk)
the regional loyalty thought is still with us, such as Texas vs. Oklahoma etc
It's a good take on the topic, much better than the 300 movie. I will soon to remake that, afterall my name is close to the glorious Persian king.
Sirous Mani For all the faults of 300 it definitely captured how the Greeks would have wished to be seen. It fits quite well with Herodotus' writing and the grandeur of the Greeks. Propaganda wise, its very interesting and of course it's entertaining.
im in class but that aint gonna stop me from commenting
lol, this was a review of the movie 300
Darius just wasn't Cyrus's kid.
Fact: Persians were more civilized and peaceful than the Greeks
waiiit a minute, wasn't Darius a distant cousin of Cyrus The Great? he was related to Cyrus via their great great grandfather? something like that?
انگلیسی
Darius was one of the generals of Cyrus who came to power after the assassination of the false king of the Achaemenid Empire.
I'm curious.. What made you interested in Persian history?
Identifying as a Spartan or Athenian does not mean you don't identify as a Greek.
Most of these informations are wrong. 1: Darius wasn't the son of cyrus the great and 2: the immortals were infantry it was the sassanians that made the new immortals into a cavalry force
thanks for correcting him, adolf.
I hate you hilter
@@parpie3718 ok
2:03 Darius was not the son of Cyrus. Cyrus had many children such as Cambyses, Atossa, and Smerdis. Cambyses became king after Cyrus and died in 522 bc. Then Smerdis came to power, Darius linked then killer Smerdis and made up a story saying that the real Smerdis was dead and that the one on the throne was an imposter (as stated on the darius inscription and Bisitun Inscription). Darius linked himself to the old persian kings (mainly Achaemenes). Darius then went on to marry Atossa (Cyrus' daughter) but was not the son of Cyrus.
Leonidas had 7,000 but a trader showed the persians a back road so leonidas dismissed all his troops but 300 of. His best

Did you had to draw ? Gezz
So how did xerxes die
Love the video, I''ll be using it in class as an introduction but a few notes: The Battle of Thermopylae included more than 5000 allied greek soldiers working together, the Spartan 300 force of hoplites was the most elite, but not the only ones there. Most of the forces ended up fleeing when the battle was going poorly most fled (or were ordered to leave) but the 300 Spartans (and 700 Thespians) remained. This aftermath of this battle didn't inspire the alliance since they were allied before the battle.
Thanks for the corrections - I'm always trying to find the most reliable sources for my videos. Where did you learn about this?
Wikipedia does a pretty good job. It's actually statistically more accurate than most encyclopedias. It references sources like Herodotus. I'd start there.
If anyone wants a GREAT account of how things were and happened then, read the book "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. You will not regret it.
dont answer me please
Darius was not Cyrus' son. Most historians believe darius wasn't related to cyrus at all (even though Darius claimed to be a fairly distant relative of Cyrus). Cyrus' sons were both dead before Darius took power. The story of Darius' rise to the throne is a fantastic story/mystery that is far less known than it should be....if you're ever looking for a new topic to cover.
"Darius who was the SON of Darius the Great" [1:55] Whaaaat?

Next time dont take 1:33 minutes for introduction and it was 33000 Spartans. 300 stayed behind when the enemy found the route from the back
Actually, it was about 9000 total soldiers. Including many helots, and other hoplites from other city states. Leonidas told them all to retreat and every Spartan stayed behind to hold off the Persians
@@phoenikos Yes, the last stand of the 300
Edit: The 300 ones were the one who stayed behind
Darius was not the son of Cyrus nor was he Cyrus' successor
OMG, WERE THE PERSIANS ON THE SIDE OF GOOD OR EVIL?
Depends what side you were on. If you were Greek the Persians were both evil and inferior and if you were Persian, well the Greeks were not probably seen as 100% evil, but as inferior subordinates. The Persians believed they were the conquerors of the world - but their main reason to conquer was to give law and order to the world.
you see your enemy as evil and he sees you as enemy.
Greeks were a messy/fucked up society. And Persians were authoritarian/pro slavery (greeks had their own slaves system too). No wonder this was a critical point in human history.
wesos de queso Persians were not pro slavery. Slavery was mostly forbidden in the Achaemenid empire.
Rafael Arandas good
Missed allot of facts here but the basics are here
Not only language united Greeks but also religion, Olympic Games and the contract to alliance against foreigners (that's why in the Troyan War, in the 13th cent. BCE, all Greeks were obliged to participate against foreigners).
Athens' feeling of superiority in the 5th cent. was bcs of DEMOCRACY. Athens did not have Monarchy or King since the 11th cent.BCE. They were free people enjoying voting rights, laws, courts, education, ALL LAYPEOPLE, from the poorer to the richer.
That was INCONCEIVABLE at that time for the whole world!!!
They fought against Persians as free men, for their own defence and freedom, not as slaves of a king.
If you wonder, I am a tour guide. By coincidence I came accross this video, which could be much better. (Nothing at all is mentioned about Democracy and Filosophy which are the most fundamental factors accountable for Greeks' high sense of self Importance...)
If there are questions, you're free to ask.
Darius wasn't Cyrus' son.
Darius is not Cyruses son
I really like the topic you chose but somehow I feel you dont feel as comfortable talking about it then in other videos.
+Threarus Camuwundra Thanks for the comment. I'm trying a new process - I guess there's a noticeable difference.
Darius was not cyrus' son....
Why does it sound like he is reading from a poorly made script for a school presentation?
Most of western histories about Greco-Persian wars are aligned with the current political situation in the world! Greeks are the father of the west and Persians are the father of all the evil of East (including Islam and tyranny). THEY ARE WRONG.
Persian Empire was run under a federal system, There were many Greeks in Persian Empire and as a matter of fact the Persian Navy in invading Greece composed of mostly Greek people! the Admiral of the fleet was Greek! This was not an ideological war, this was an ancient war for dominance and power. Persians adopted Greek philosophy and architecture in their society and life style (Please take a look at Persepolis ruins as an example), so they didn't want to destroy it! PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THE HISTORY.
And the spartans do not live in greece they live in australia!!! in fact the persians or greeks as you say were fighting the samurais
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I am agree of most of the things you mentioned in your comment but i am not agree that Persians adopted Greek philosophy and architecture in their society and life style(BTW Persepolis is not a Greek architecture).
John Motamed exactly, any idiot starts making videos now a days..lol
so why would alexander steal Persian culture and getting Persian women !
Darius the great was the son in law of Cyrus the great.
Persian wars? This was just 1 of many
Dariush was not the son of Cyrus the great!
yup, and Xerxes was not Darius' son either
@@davidvalle3068 no xerxes was son of Darius the great. But Darius was n t Cyrus son .cambyssis and bardiya were Cyrus sons
You are aware that the Movie 300 has no bases in reality and it is very exaggerated dramatization of an event which historians have serious doubts about it!
Actually it was 5:04 not 5:00😑
I cannot believe the narrator forgot to mention the most important theme or lesson of the Persian Wars. By failing to defeat the Greeks , the Persians did not pass into western civilization the themes of absolute government headed by a god-king . Instead Greek culture, government of free citizens and rational analysis became the foundations of 'western civilization. NT
Exactly!!!
