This is a CZcams PREMIERE of a video originally posted at THROGA.com on October 18th, 2023. It is no longer available on our website because the platform we were using (Vimeo) is blocked in several countries. We apologize to those of you who have already seen these reactions, but we are excited to finally share it with all of our ARMY friends. **SPOILER ALERT** BTS-related videos to come this month include Standing Next To You (LIVE), Black Swan, and something Christmassy!!

The piano part in Snooze was a collaboration with one of Yoongi's idols, the great Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto (I believe it was the last thing he worked on before he died), who actually played it for the album. And I BEG you guys to go back and read the lyrics to Snooze later in more depth, because I think you'll really appreciate them. This song is very much Yoongi's legacy and message to the singers of the next generation. The last bit, from "dream" onward, is a direct callback to his song "So Far Away" from his first Agust D mixtape.
On the final day of his tour, the emotions in this song, and having all members and his juniors present and watching him succeed, really got to him, and he broke down at "Everything will be okay." The band kept playing, and ARMY took over and sang it to him, instead. You're definitely going to find recordings of that performance out there and I'd love for you to watch it, but I'd ask you to please NOT use it for a reaction. It was an extremely vulnerable moment for him, and (odd to say with an audience of tens of thousands of people in person, and millions online) intimate, and I'd rather not see it analyzed.
He and the other members make a lot of jokes about "SUGA" being like "Sugar" (no, it's not Korean, but neither is "Shooting Guard" 😆). And Agust D is D-T (for Daegu Town) + SUGA spelled backwards.

What you guys said after V's song about self reflection, and growing is so spot on. In their yearly Festa Dinner 2022, when they announced their break, you can really hear their sincerity (as always) to ARMY but you can also hear their exhaustion and frankly, they've just run out of things to write about. They haven't had the normal, growing experiences that are needed to write. They've had tons of growth, for sure, but the IDOL life can be strict and schedules show no mercy. You'll hear from each of them. They feel extreme guilt for needing a break, it's crazy. They feel they're letting us down. It's RM that broke me at the end when he said "... that we could talk and be happy without thinking about the rules of the world" and his voice broke. They wanted some freedom and to not be scrutinized. It's a really emotional dinner but the guys are always so authentic and transparent. This also feeds into their solo work and the direction of it. Jimin's "Set Me Free", RM's "Wildflower" which is basically looking back at his 20's. Suga's "Snooze" which he has said was to give comfort and understanding to the younger Idols hoping to make their journey less stressful. Anyhow, I've rambled now but here's a Billboard article on it and it does include the video. I know it will resonate with you both, as musicians and for you, Johnny as a songwriter. Sorry to go on and on but what you guys said after V's song was just so spot on.

A few of Jimin's songs are from the time they were confined during the pandemic. Set Me Free. Jimin had a rough time, he was in a lot of pain and they took him to the hospital. He had appendicitis, he also tested positive for Covid at the same time.

One of the things I love about Set Me Free Pt 2 is that Jimin dives a lot more into his lower register. He doesn't use chest voice often, but when he does it's got quite an effect. The album it comes from was basically his pandemic response, when he had a lot of time to sit with himself and work through a lot of things he's felt have been holding him back. (He's a perfectionist and often VERY hard on himself.)

Loving how Johnny enjoys the chords on V songs a lot. RM wrote Singularity specifically for V showcasing his baritone voice. As you continue on your BTS journey, you’ll surely notice how versatile V is. In group songs, he rarely sings in his comfort range and they often give him the most difficult parts (according to RM) where V’s the one who adjusts in songs made for tenors. It was mentioned in Suchwita V has widened his vocal range by an octave as a result. 🤯

  • @glossaria2
    @glossaria2 Před 6 měsíci +47

V puts so much FLAVOR into his songs, and I LOVE when we get to hear him using the lower portion of his range. This is from BTS's "Love Yourself :Tear" album, which is in the middle of their fourth-era "Love Yourself" story arc. Album 1, "Love Yourself: Her," is about the thrill of experiencing first love, "Tear" is the pain of break-up on realizing the love was false, and "Love Yourself: Answer" is about discovering true love through learning to love yourself. (Jin's "Epiphany" is in "Answer.") There was also a short film, "Love Yourself: Wonder," which introduced the series with JK's "Euphoria."
Tear was a major turning-point for BTS in a lot of ways. The pressure of their new success and their intense promotion schedules for Fake Love (they got a day and a half off PER MONTH) made them seriously contemplate disbanding (which was the impetus for the rap line writing "Outro: Tear," which is... INTENSE). Thankfully, they didn't.

    • @WonderingWildWanderingRose
      @WonderingWildWanderingRose Před 6 měsíci +1

I just need to point out that we didn't know, for about a year that they'd even considered disbanding and it was another 2 years before we learned the backstory of Outro:Tear's introduction to the members and its effect on the disbandment decision. So many people tell reactors (& therefore new ARMY) the very specific personal meaning the song has for the members, but that biases people's understanding and ability to relate to the song in any other way. Many of us were able, in that over 2 year period of non-knowledge, to use that song for personal meaning/healing without having that strong group meaning interfering. (A beautiful love song "Mandy" by Barry Manilow was forever ruined for me as a romantic song when I learned he had written it for his DOG!) We should be careful not to steal other newcomers' opportunity to use BTS music for healing. (IMHO)

Jin's The Astronaut... THAT MAN. 😍 He flew THIRTY HOURS ONE WAY to perform for 15 minutes at Coldplay's Buenos Aires concert, just so he could say goodbye to ARMYs. The audience was chanting was his full name-- Kim Seokjin. All of their full names are three syllables (which RM refers to in Persona), so the fanchant is all their names in age order (except for leader RM at the beginning), three eighth-note beats for each with an eighth rest between:
"Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS!"
For their solo work we've mostly chanted just that member's name, except for when Yoongi sang Life Goes On on tour. For that song, ARMY did the full fanchant, and he started extending the intro so he could hear it for longer. :D

Just a note at the start. BTS as a whole and individually love to make lyrics and music differently. They make happy songs instrumentally and sad lyrically and visa verse.
    1. Jimin's song was written as part of an album, he wrote the album due to feeling lost during the pandemic. This song was towards the end after "Like Crazy" which was how he expressed his feelings of being lost.
    2. Jin wrote his song with Coldplay and specifically Chris's son. He wrote and sang this song for his fans directly before he went in for his enlistment. He wanted to thank his fans for all their support and did so beautifully.
    3. RM's song Intro: Persona was written in conjuction with Suga's Interlude and J-Hope's Outro but this song was first in the album Map of the Soul: Persona. He is very into reading and this album was part of his Carl Jung's book about Man and his Symbols about the conscious and the unconscious man. So this is why he speaks of the Persona, Shadow and Ego.
    4. Suga wrote this song to encourage others who are beginning to start in the music industry. He felt so alone at the beginning of his career as many people took advantage of a poor, young Min Yoongi. He therefor wants to encourage young artists that they don't have not failed if they can't be BTS right away. They need to take the steps to make themselves good and just take it easy, not worry so much.
    5. V's Singularity was written for the album Love Yourself: Tear the three albums that ended in Tear were about the need in the end to love yourself. Singularity is the nature of in the end being alone even though you never intended to be. In "Fake Love" from BTS it talks of losing my voice for you so this song also talks of the same thing. V is very good with the soul music.
    6. Chicken Noodle Soup was J-Hope's favorite song growing up. It was originally a song from the 90s and that is what you hear at the beginning of the song. He would dance to this song as a young man. The dance is actually the orginal dance but with more twerking lol.
    7. Jungkook's Still with You was written again during the pandemic to let ARMY know that he is always with them in heart.
Stay Alive was written for a webtoon that BTS as a whole was associated with. Each of the charcters in the webtoon has a parallel to a BTS member and in the webtoon they are fighting monsters thus the need for them all to Stay Alive. But as an individual each needs to stay alive but needs help to stay alive.

The Astronaut was actually a huge surprise in the sense that it's in a lot lower register than we're used to from Jin and to be honest I wish they'd lifted it just a little. Chris called it one of the best songs they've ever written "so let's give it to Jin". 🥰 He'd even written English lyrics as well but encouraged Jin to write his own Korean verses and he did.
Seeing that we bid a temporary farewell to the last two members today this honestly hit me hard BUT now we can start the countdown to their return starting with Jin on June 12th 2024 and ending with Suga on June 21st 2025.

Jimin- He wrote his album FACE to explain how he felt during the pandemic and ut should be listened to in chronological order. Set Me Free pt. 2 is the last song because he has set himself free from the pain and depression that he was in. Set Me Free (pt 1) is really a song by Suga, yet unrelated. Jimin named it pt 2 to differentiate them.
Jin: He collaborated with Coldplay on this because they’re his idols and also as a goodbye song to ARMY right before he enlisted.
RM: He wrote that about himself, yes. He always had issues deciphering who he was between being an underground rapper and an idol. He decided he is just himself- RM=Real Me.
Agust D: He wrote Snooze first the trainees wanting to become idols. Telling them to not try so hard that they hurt themselves and that he’ll be there for them. He collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto- an idol of his- right before he died.

Stay Alive is a soundtrack song, so appropriately, it's got that dramatic vibe. Jungkook and Suga are an amazing duo when it comes to making music. On a recent episode of Suchwita, Suga told a funny anecdote...as a producer, he often writes songs for other artists. Because Jungkook was always around, and because recording is somehow extremely quick and effortless for him, Suga used to have JK record all his guide tracks. Eventually though, they were told that this was apparently too intimidating for artists looking to make the song theirs. So... Suga had to stop using JK's vocals. Ah, the curse of having an iconic sound 🥲

@Thorga, guys, Suga of BTS there’s nothing sweet about him he’s pretty Savage with the lyrics as well the meaning behind his songs ! Lol!😂
Actually, his name is Suga ,And it comes from “shooting guard” A position that he played in basketball in school! So as an American or western ,it’s not pronounce like sugar it is “Shooga” that is his name when he performs with the other six members of BTS now by himself as a solo he is known as Agust D which is Suga spelled Backwards TD is backwards for
Daegu town The city outside of Seoul Korea where he was born and raised as a young boy!
He comes from the underground rap scene in South Korea just like RM so they did “battle Raps” which was competition of dissing your opponent with words! SUGA is quite savage when it comes to his lyrics and if you can imagine he was a very interesting threat to the other rappers in the underground hip-hop scene, RM also was a big threat because of his intellect and words that he uses in Korean, Japanese and English how he incorporates everything together and how they work well together it makes the opponent have to look up the words and the sentence in order to get an idea of what our RM is really saying! The decade that they have been together as a group and their solo albums have showed their individuality of what they want to display to the world musically as a group they are phenomenal and as a solo artist they’re phenomenal💜

❣Jimin “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production! Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! (As opposed to certain other members. No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this made me that much more excited, for the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” released on March 24, along with his main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Jimin’s other songs “Face-Off”, “Alone”, as well as hidden track “Letter” are all equally amazing! Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well! I’ve always been so frustrated not being able to see as well as hear Jimin’s full capacity of talent. So often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been so limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself. Now the spotlight will be just on him! Though we’ve seen Jimin’s amazingly spectacular, so mesmerizingly outstanding solo performances before. But now, as Jimin himself, mentioned, he’ll indeed be showing the depth of his raw inner self! Jimin has also said that with all the members now exploring & expressing their own individual talent , it will just make BTS that much stronger when they come back together as a group! In an interview Jimin explained: "I tried to express the grand scale of the song and [the ideas of] determination, passion, and overcoming. “Set me free” means setting myself free, so I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else. In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free. I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white.

Jimin bias here, but I'm in Ohio, too!
I am actually taking the last 4 enlisting so close together quite well, though.
Hobi was - oddly - the hardest for me. I think because Jin being 30, logically, I knew he *had* to go when he did. Yoongi, doing civil service, isn't nearly as strenuous as a full-time "recruit". Hobi - going second - was difficult, I think because I was really expecting them to go in age order. Then, with Yoongi's tour, of course, he couldn't go right away. I AM glad, however, that RM and V...plus Jimin and JK...got to enlist together, so they're not completely alone...even if they do get separated into different units while enlisted, at least they have a good chance of seeing each other now and then. (I can't imagine how hard that was for Jin and Hobi going in "alone" like they did.)
Bright side, it has already been a year...Jin will be back with "us" in just 6 short months! (Though I really hope he - as well as the others - get a week or two off after they get out to go see their family and friends first!!!)

As for the BTS lyrics, they're mostly in Korean so the rhymes, wordplay, double entendre, syllable repetition, poetic evocation etc are lost in translation which only leave us with a skeleton without flesh. I read the lyrics and what the songs are about but that's not what drove me to love him. And as for BTS, I don't know what 70% of the songs are about. Still With You or Stay Alive would not be one of Jungkook's song that I would recommend. I think a lot of his fans are into this type of genre. One which isn't quite my music style but REALLY displayed his vocal range is a COVER of "IF YOU" which he performed in 2016 on a show called The Masked Singer I think on MBC. MBC seemed to have recently re-uploaded this video 6 months ago, given how famous JK is now. But for me personally, it is worthy of checking out because of his vocals there. The song is too sentimental for me, but the way he sang it breathed a whole new life to it. He just turned 19 at the time (20 in Korean age), but sang with the soul of someone who knows a lifetime of pain. As a member of BTS since 14 years old, I guess he did know a life time of pain. Thanks again for this video!

Any of the TV broadcasts will be blocked for copyright. The original MV's won't be.
Edit: Suga's name is from his position in basketball - shooting guard. August - D is Suga backwards and from his hometown of Degu (I've spelled that wrong....sorry ARMY.)

Exactly! Except wasn’t Tae’s a music video they watched? It confuses me. I don’t understand why some reactions never are distorted for copyright

It can be confusing to new reactors. Just know that any paid content (i.e. TV shows, etc.) AND Japanese MVs will get copyright strikes, whereas fan-made concert videos and Hybe-owned videos will not. It is very annoying to watch pixelated videos, no matter what I feel the reactor might offer. I do hope these two will figure it out soon as I do like their content.@@6468May

@@KC_5902No it‘s a fact. BTS and producers and writers JK worked with said that. You can also see it in the songs that he released. Euphoria - EDM, My Time - R‘n‘B, Still With You - Jazz, Seven - UK Garage, 3D - Pop, Jungle (Cola ad) - Rock, Standing Next To You - Funk, I Hate You - Ballad and more. On top of that, all the songs he sang on his livestreams, for example JK did ad-libs for Cicak by CHS and the clip was viral on tiktok, people commented they thought a black woman is singing. He can do it all.

as a new ARMY and over 55, just want to say thanks for going through all of the videos and songs for all members of BTS. I enjoy listening to your comments. I started with one song and have now gone to whole albums. Hoping you will go through them all - video or not. I love listening to their songs they performed when they were younger and then now. Although I wasn’t into rap, I like the rap when performed by RM, SUGA and J-Hope. 33:30

Regarding your discussion about lyrics vs music initial response, I’m similar which is why the lyrics in Korean don’t bother me. I’ve told family who question how I can listen to songs in a language I don’t understand is that it is like listening to opera in another language. I pay more attention to the sounds than the lyrics. But for BTS before I go back and listen to the lyrics on subtitled versions, I look at explanation videos where they are available and find out the background of the meaning behind the song and that enhances my appreciation of it when I listen to the lyrics.

I've said the same thing about opera to my husband. I've sung in choirs all my life, and no one questions the worth of listening to songs in Italian or German or Latin. Why not Korean? Music connects.

As usual, love it! I think that ARMY should’ve voted for different pieces for both RM and J-hope! Although I loooove both Intro Persona and Chicken Noodle Soup, there are many more tracks that I think really exemplify the layers to their craft and who they’ve grown to be musically. Personally, I would recommend “Seoul” by RM and then “Daydream” or “Hope World” by Jhope!
I’m really excited for when Jin comes back from military in 5 months-looking forward to his solo work! He had such limited time before being the first to enlist, so it was already impressive he did The Astronaut and traveled SO many hours and flights just for that singular performance with Coldplay in Argentina.
Love your input on all the music theory behind each track! I think it’s awesome that both of y’all have different ears/are listening for different elements which makes these reviews so much more interesting. I was actually curious what you’d think of the auto tune for example but love that you recognized it for its purpose and as an intentional tool for the mood! Good stuff!
Lastly, GOSH. Snooze is fantastic. If I’m not mistaken, Snooze was ranked by TIME as #16 of the Top 23 Best Songs of 2023! Well deserved. The part when Suga repeats “everything will be okay” is so simple but that’s why it makes it more emotional. My fave part and glad you responded that way to it!
    Cheers!

…and what did a lot ARMY do with Set Me Free Pt2? They dismissed it because they didn’t like the auto-tune. The funny thing is, that kind of judgment and confining aspect of the fandom and of critics is exactly what Jimin was singing about in the song.
