I started collecting in the 70s. $8k would have gotten me a u-haul truck full of packs.
Yep and the top cards in great condition are worth more the 8k... in other words invest in vintage $$

Box 1: $1160
Box 2: $2000
Overall $3160/8000 not great
I mean, nearly half your money back is pretty good for most baseball card hobby boxes. You think the profit margins should increase just because you're spending more on the box? lol

Unfortunately, the market determines the prices for these high-end boxes. If nobody touched these at $8k, the price would come down, but fomo takes over, and people throw money away on these overpriced boxes. Thanks to you tubers like Jabs, I can actually see inside some of these high-end boxes.

Worth it to Breakers and to the CZcams subs though. Especially Breakers who don't really pay/open boxes for their own PCs.
Not even close. Could have bought a bunch of Mantles, Aaron’s, Mays and Clemente’s along with a RC of every HOF from Schmidt on down.
You could sell all of the cards from both boxes and, still not recoup the cost of 1 box, even with the Trout & Ohtani autos. That’s not good. Very nice cards though.

If you're buying boxes of cards to turn a profit, you're doing it wrong.
Look, these guys who buy into breaks like this enjoy giving their money away.
As I've said before, I blame the breakers for pushing product like this. They know full well what they're doing and show no compunction while doing it. This is why people continue to leave the hobby, and as a country, the national household debt has recently risen to 17.5 trillion dollars.
Since the pandemic, every breaker has lost subscribers. Many of which range in the area of 90 percentile. They're gone, folks, and they're not coming back. If you were a business, you'd be out of business. We haven't begun to see the real pain yet, but it's coming.
Meanwhile, the breakers continue to use a broken and outdated business model.

I think rather than a random team break, a random hits break would be better for this product. Meaning only selling 10 spots but at least everyone gets a card.

T Speaker had 10,195 career at bats of which he struck out 393 times. That is less than 4 strikeouts for every 100 at bats. I have seen guys whiff 5 times in 1 game.
I just looked up comps on cards from this product. A signed Julio Rodriguez 1/1 sold for under $800 bucks...wow

Dale Murphy card is a beautiful design, and the non base designs look sharp! The base design looks kind of cheap (like 90s as Jabs mentioned) with that foil down the side it is going to be hard to gem up, easily scratched and the Strider looked a little dull.
I don’t expect these boxes to return the purchase price, but half would be nice.
Would indeed be nice. Its too bad you have to 'hit the lottery" card(s) to even get TO the halfway point in many cases.

This is some racket topps has going. I remember when they first started with jersey cards. They were rare and valuable. I pulled a Nolan ryan ( valued at $500) and ken griffey jr. ( $350). This was in 1999. After that they started flooding the market with those cards and the value dropped off the table. Ever since then they started getting crazy with the prices of boxes. They priced kids out of the market. I wouldnt pay more than a few hundred for the cards he pulled out of these boxes

For most of these products its far better just to buy the cards you want. You can buy the top 2 cards from both boxes for less than the cost of a single box.

I have a ton of trout and alvarez autos and those were not even close.
There were some great names in that box, and I love actual on card auto stuff, but the price is crazy. It's an awesome product for breakers to sell, but I mean...if you're hoping for a certain big name auto that badly then you could just take that $8k, spend a little of it to buy the auto, then put the rest in the bank. I'm not one to tell anyone how to spend their money, but that $8k cost way more than my first 2...maybe even 3 cars when I was younger. Good luck if you have that type of disposable income, but I'll be happily watching this one from the sidelines haha.

I'll take my chances at getting to games early and hoping they'll sign their cards for me. $8k is just wow. Imagine going back in time 20-30 years and telling people you can buy an $8k box of cards with ~12 auto cards. People would think you were looney.

So if you didn’t get a card you’re SOL? Just curious, not judging. Wouldn’t it have been better to randomize numbers based on how many cards and just do numerical numbered assignments? This way nobody goes home empty handed?
If no one goes home empty handed then the buy in would’ve been tripled

What happens to all the people who paid but didn't get their team pulled? Are they just sol or are they given some type of consolation prize?

If you paid $8k for those boxes you lost a lot of money, the prices for those boxes now are insane, and 9 times out of 10 not worth what you pay for them. It's like playing the scratch off lottery tickets, maybe 1 out of 20 is a winner, and 1 out of 100 is a big winner, if you are really lucky.
People who pay $8,000 for them are losing 50 to 60 percent of their money, and that is if they can even sell the cards. I would never pay that much for those boxes, because most of them are a flat out rip-off.
And one last thing, if you pay $4,000 for a box of those cards every single one of them should be a 1/1, this 10 of 15 stuff is highway robbery. If I ever paid $4,000 for 10 cards every one of them better be a 1/1 or someone is in trouble.

for 8g, youd think they would make the cards actually cool looking... these are basic.
I wish they would change the image on numbered cards. A card numbered to 499 shouldnt have the same image as one numbered to 150. Just a lazy way to make a buck.
Why don't they just charge $20,000 a box or $50,000. Topps is just making me not want to introduce my 5 month old boy when he turns 7 into this thing I used to love..... not to mention I pulled a Bryce harper red auto Redemption in December that had a x date on it that at the time was 4 days away then when I tried to scratch it off it screwed it up where I could not read it so I emailed them and sent it into the address on the card that is not where they are located anymore and I have emailed them over and over again and they basically tell me they don't care if they don't get it in time it's my fault. It was there there product that failed to deliver........
Topps isn't the one charging $8,000, they sold this on their website for $3,200 or so. It's the resellers that are boosting the price so high.
Why would you not call them when you scratched up the back? I did the same to my Alvarez redemption as I used a knife. I called them and it took him 15 seconds to get my redemption put into the system. Also you’re leaving out some information. Such as what yr pack did the redemption come from? They’re good for years.
