    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 2 lety

      Both are good lenses. The Viltrox is about $100 cheaper. The Sigma will be sharper and more clinical, with higher contrast. The Viltrox will have more charter, with a bit smoother background blur, and be a bit lower contrast. It's really personal preference, try to look at some good sample images online, from both lenses.

    Been waiting for you to release this video. Bought this lens last week. I'd say not much difference with Sigma 56mm f1.4 unless you pixel peep. For the price... this is a steal. The only gripe I have with this lens is the minimum focusing distance. But if the subject is big anyway, it wont matter. :)

      Yes, it's such a great lens, especially for the price.

    I completely agree with you. I'm looking for an option to upgrade my nifty fifty and I found that most people recommends sigma 56 f1.4, but I consider that it just feels weird. The subject is so sharp and the background is so blurry that full body shots looks like they are superimposed. I understand why people likes sigma, but I want something with a different character and perhaps Viltrox is the way to go. Thanks so much for your video, it helped me a lot.

    Question, in previous, you mentioned arca swiss for under the small rig cage -game changer? Which one for the Canon M50 cage? As there are 40mm? 50?60?etc...I need a quick release and Nice solid ball mount, as mine are cheap plastic.. breaking...Thank you in advance !!!

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 2 lety +1

      All of my plates and cages seem to measure 37mm for plate. I wonder if the 40, 50, 60 is the how wide the mounts are going the other way? just a guess, but with the M50 cage, most of the bottom of the unit is a plate, so no issues with any size in that direction.

    • @markwiemels

      It would not so much be an upgrade, as give a different look, having both would be ideal. For that type of work you really should have the 56mm as well.

    Really good video!
    I was wondering how does it compare with a Canon EF 50 + speed booster…
    It has a 6mm difference, but if I can live with that, am I missing too much?
    Since I use my camera only for photos, the aperture priority video even though is super cool, would not be a big plus 😬

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 2 lety +1

      Good comparison, I should try and make that video. The Viltrox will give you a much sharper and more detailed image, but the 50mm with the speed booster makes the lens act like a f1.2 lens, so more background blur. The Viltrox would give superior results overall.

    Great video as always. I'm wondering how you feel about these VS the Sigma series - It looks like they are going for that same "3 prime lens" setup that Sigma has, but would save you roughly $200.00 if you bought each set respectively 23mm/33mm/56mm vs 16mm/30mm/56mm.
    I don't know that the 23mm is enough to get me to give up my beloved Canon Pancake but the 33 and 56 are both super intriguing at that price point.

It's really personal preference, try to look at some good sample images online. For the record, I think the Viltrox 23mm is the best lens on the mount, especially for the money. If you already have the 22mm, I would look at the 16mm Sigma, or 56mm Sigma or Viltrox next. If you mainly to photography, I would go with one of the 56mm lenses, for video I would go for the 16mm.

    I picked this lens up a bit ago, and unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed with its performance. I think there might have been some kind of factory defect, but when I opened the lens up to f1.4, the image was prohibitively soft, to the point where it straight up looked like I missed focus. My TTartisan lenses are sharper wide open than that poor Viltrox lens was, so I immediately sent it back. I did buy the lens second-hand, so there's a chance the thing might have been dropped in transit or mistreated by its original owner, but I'm going to be wary if I order from Viltrox again.

      It can be, but at 56mm it can be hard to hand hold it and be stable. So you really need a super steady hand, or tripod, monopod, gimbal, ibis, something to keep it stable.
