  • Is this the BEST portrait lens for your Nikon Z fc and Z 50? In this video, I do an extensive review of the Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 lens for Nikon Z series DX or APSC cameras like the Z fc and Z50. I use the lens for Street Photography, Sports Photography, and Landscape Photography and finally test the lens for the photography genre that it's designed for, Portrait Photography!

    This little gem is also available for Fuji-film X, Canon M, and Sony E APSC cameras. I am thrilled that Viltrox ported this lens and its 23 and 33mm, siblings, over to Nikon Z DX cameras like the Z50 and Z fc.

    Viltrox is reminding me of the Sigma Trio set of lenses 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F/1.4 primes for Sony and Canon APSC cameras. Bought the Megadap ETZ-11 adapter which I can use the Sigma Trio on Nikon from the Sony E mount. The only thing that theses lenses do not have is the aperture ring. But the pics and videos look awesome. You are looking sharp and I love the color.

      I have gotten to where I do most of my vlogging with the DJI Pocket 2 creator kit. It has decent picture quality and top notch stabilization and a built in wireless mic system. However, in studio settings we usually use either my Nikon Z6 or the Zfc. I don't plan on buying the Z30 but I do think it's going to be a great camera especially for video creators. I bought the Sony ZV-E10 and it was working great until the Micro HDMI port just won't work anymore. So I am using that to vlog. Sounds great from the camera. But I think the ZFC with that 28mm would be better. I rather have the Z30 than this ZV-E10 though. Menu system and the way the Sony is setup you need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. To my eye, any lens bellow 70mm is too distorted for portraits on a 35mm body. A 50-60mm lens is ok for upper body shots but not for close portraits.
    Some 70mm macro lenses will work well but don’t get too close, the 85mm is a good all around portrait lens and a 105mm is a very good option for close portraits.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  Před rokem

      I’m not sure if you’re trying to say this lens a bad lens for portraits or a good lens for portraits. On one hand it is definitely below 70 mm, on the other hand it’s not on a 35 mm body it’s on an apsc body and it is a lens designed for apsc. Either way, thanks for watching and have a great day.

    • @etienneamien
      @etienneamien Před rokem

      @@PhilThach oh sorry then my mistake !
      Then a 56mm is ok for portraits on an APSC camera. I just used many 50mm equivalent lenses and even if this focal is a good all around focal, it’s distortion is too strong for close portraits on a 35mm or so called « full frame » camera. But a 56mm zooms to 78mm on APSC camera so it’s well suited for portraits on APSC bodies. 70mm lenses will work like a 105mm on an APSC body and is even better to avoid distortion for close portraits

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  Před 2 lety

      I used to think the same thing but that is not how it works, for example. If you use a 50mm lens designed for APSC on APSC it's field of view will be the same as a 75mm lens on full frame. Likewise if that 50mm was designed for full frame, it would sill give you a 75mm full frame equivalent field of view on an APSC camera.
