@@xaylonvanrensburgSupposedly Coal miners used to take a canary into the mines and when the bird would die or pass out it would warn them of poisonous gasses so they could get out in time.
So a canary in the coalmine basically means a warning
Completely agree with Zeeland here.
You can't complain about the number of games but then proceed to play 3 games in a week and keep in mind, that won't be the only friendlies being played.
Re: referring to his club as his "employer" - Zealand, the French guy speaking to the Spanish press probably wasn't speaking English =P

Francophone here. In the interview he called them "employeurs". So, pretty much the same distancing
you still probably wouldn’t see somebody refer to themselves as employed rather a ‘jugador’, a player for real madrid as a spanish speaker
@@danidish2342 He was speaking in french, not spanish, and he was referring to the club as the employer, not to himself as an employee, so he wouldn't have used "jugador" anyway.
To be honest, I don't know enough french to read into his intention, but from the tone it didn't feel like he was trying to stir up any trouble.
"Fifa are ruining football by forcing players to play too many matches"
"Clubs are forcing their players to not play exhausting tournaments"
Nobody is forcing anyone to play. Of course, players will want to play as much as possible. It’s their job and you don’t have much longevity as a professional athlete.
The clubs have invested a lot on these players and want to safeguard their investment.
Meanwhile FIFA, UEFA and even national federations are making more and more games to the point, it’s going to be a problem in the near future.
Edit: this is a special case where the Euros are happening at the same time your nation is hosting the Olympics
Huge difference is players want to play this they don’t want to play in the Dubai Derby or The McDonald’s XL Cup

The Australian men’s national team is having similar issues with clubs not wanting to release players for the Olympic and the WC qualifiers. It’s annoying because some players weren’t called up for the Asian Cup in the understanding that they would be called for the Olympics.
Yeah cause QF for WC is very hard for Australia so they need best players…

I’m club over country, hated that FIFA added more pointless international games. I do however worry about some of the schedules clubs set up for preseason. Chelsea for example have 5 games all over the USA 3 days between each game. When are they supposed to rest properly? When are they supposed to train? You can’t properly prepare for a new season like that. Too many games, too much travel, different time zones.

While I love the Olympics and would like the best players possible to play, I kind of agree with the clubs on this one. They are the ones paying the players salaries and already have to deal with mandatory international dates (which can get very inconvenient), so pretending they agree to more international dates AND the necessary resting time for the players, so refusing seems pretty reasonable to me.
If anything, I think the Olympics should get the "official" international dates corresponding to other, not that important games (for example, this week's friendlies).
Not really.
If touchameni stars in that tournament his merchandise will increase in value tremendously.
@@Micfri300 Just because he participates it's not going to make much of a difference, if any at all, from him already participating in the Euros or the World Cup.
Sure, if he happens to end up being the star of the tournament it might, but it's not like he is an unknown prospect, he is already an important player, the risk of him getting injured is not really worth it.
@@alpuzza winning at your own country Olympics games is what sponsors crave for.
@@Micfri300 For other sports sure, for football not that much, the World Cup, the Euros (or other continents equivalent), even club competitions like the Champions, are all considered much more important and will get a player way more exposure. The Olympics for football are a slightly beefed under 23 tournament. I'm not saying they are irrelevant, but they don't have that much prestige in football.
EDIT: I've realized that you actually mean France winning it in France, which I agree would make their victory more "important". It still gives very little benefit and significant risk for their clubs to let them go when they are going to be coming back from the Euros that same summer.
Madrid and mbappe will have problems signing the contract because mbappe has said multiple times he desires going to the Olympic… mostly since is in Paris this year. This gonna be yet another problem and I know floren is running out of patience
it's the same reason Brazlian players breakdown earlier than others. by the time they hit 20 they've played soo many games. there are too many matches a year. I'm worried about the players
Clubs pay the wages, clubs should decide.
Poor Pedri had to be the guinea pig
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Marca I learned 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is there indoor canoeing too?
9:49 Pedri, who I also simp alot😘
The Olympics are not a football tournament. Football players have EURO in the summer, and COPA.
why outdoor kanoo when you can indoor kanoo?
Your thumbnails are iconic
The clubs pay these guys 10s of millions of dollars
If they want to reduce the matches they play they should
They get 0 back when players get injured on international duty
0 back but they still have to pay these players salaries
International football can genuinely pxxx off
And those players make them hundreds of millions of dollars in return. worst take I've ever heard, Country over Club, has always been that way, will always be that way. These clubs will ship you out the moment they can significantly profit off of you or the moment you're unpopular or on bad form. Your loyalty lies with your people, your flag, your country, the badge you wear is literally just your work uniform.
it sounds like your country is just shit at football tbh
Worst take ever.
Clubs do get compensated when a player gets injured on international duty. You should do some research instead of just saying trash.
You all underestimated the severe effect of injuries in football today. Players can be out of form even after they recovered. RM and Barca were effected much by this. Look at Pedri, Ansu Fati, Hazard etc. Their "investment" has gone to drain when these players can't pick up their form after injuries. I can understand why players want to participating in this tournament but clubs want to protect their interest too.
Bro who benefits monetarily from the added value that a player gains from achievement on the international level ?
I think the importance in terms of player fitness and injury management achieved by going through a proper full pre-season schedule is underestimated, that is always interrupted by any major tournament and even more this year with potentially two. Arguably how beneficial the money making tours to USA and other countries are to a pre-season may make it less relevant but I don't think you can equate it to playing tournament football just because the same amount of games are played.
This is literally my dream job.
It's not that deep. The tournaments weren't planned in a way that even considers players participating in both tournaments. It wouldn't be good for the club and it would most likely be harmful for the player. The Olympics is there for players who weren't picked for the Euros and Copa America. France can literally field 5 starting XIs that would beat 90% of teams. Now some of those players get to go to the Olympics. There is no need for Tchouaméni and Mbappe to go to the Olympics when players like Coman might not even got to the Euros. If you want to sympathize with the players, let them rest. Don't look for ways to help them harm themselves.
Indoor canoeing is the future
dude, in football manager, do you not withdraw your players ? i surely do every single time so....
Feels like we’re reading too much into it
3 games in one week but they play like 45 mins max
Didier Deschamps is NOT responsible for France Olympic Team. It's Thierry Henry, under 21 coach who will take the team to Olympics. Deschamps will be in Euros 2024 with the men team.
He’s like the boss of the boss ya feel me, he also is the dude quoted in the article
Friendlies can be a waste of time
Treating friendlies as if they're the same as tournament matches is a complete red herring. In a tournament you go to your very limit and then beyond that. In a friendly you stay well below it. In a tournament your opponent will go fully into the tackles. In a friendly this rarely happens.
Look at it this way: If you go for a run at 80% of your regular speed, you can easily run the same way on the next day. But if you go for a run at your very limit, you will probably need a few days' rest, depending on how long that run was.
I think Barcelona's quoted stance is fair - you can play Euro's or you can do Olympics - not both. Players got to have a rest somewhere
I think it's rather hypocritical of clubs (Barcelona in particular with regards to the Pedri situation), to claim that their players are being overplayed whilst simultaneously overplaying them throughout the season.
Ups I was the one watching the Barcelona v Kobe match in Japan right after the end of the Laliga season
I was initially confused about the timimg being close to the end of the season but I got to watch a Barcelona match with a girl that is now my girlfriend
But the football was not so good, they looked very tired, so the J-League match we watched later that week was more fun
I wonder if they'll do the same for Brazil with Vini and Rodrygo, oh wait... they didn't qualify.
If Mbappe wants to play in the Olympics and Euros he will play in the Olympics and Euros. All he needs to do is include the choice to play in the Euros and Olympics in his contract. Real Madrid won't risk losing his signature over something like that.
He could also maybe get Camavinga, Tchoumeni and Mendy out of Real Madrid's anti-international prison but that might be pushing it.
You can't like pancakes and waffles. Liking waffcakes and panffles is ok, though.
Anthony Gordon played in, won player of the tournament , and England won the U21 Euros last summer, then straight into the Premier League with Newcastle where he has been doing particularly well. That Pedri argument doesn't wash...he just wasn't fit enough.
Gordon didn't play the ucl or finals of 2 cups
Did you not hear Zea say 75 games
The average was 43 or 44 if I remember correctly
That's 15 plus extra games than Gordan
Pedri wasn't even benched, I remember Barca fans moaning that pedri wasn't subbed even when Spain were willing by 4 or 5 goals
Also it not happening within a year to one guy doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen to someone else
-Real Madrid/Barcelona: "We're super worried that playing both the Euros & Olympics will hurt a player's match fitness!"
-Also Real Madrid/Barcelona: schedules matches in the US during the Olympics
Yeah, I bet it's ONLY player fitness they're worried about.
They can sub them and rotate them , if they are at the national team, you have no control.
@The28studio by starring at the Olympics neymar merchandise sales across the world skyrocketed.
Plus it's just the one time because the Olympics is not held every 4 years in France.
Tell me you don't understand preseason without telling me you don't understand preseason.
what’s bullshit to me about this is that clubs like real madrid and barca will withhold players from playing in the olympics etc but will bench the same players in league games
it should be up to the players whether or not the play in competitions in the summer
As opposed to indoor canoeing?
That dortmund jersey is so damn disgusting. That year of kits was just a shame
Finally with a Jersey from the right Club 😁
Is not the same a friendly in which you play half a game than a competitive match in the olimpics
Nice BVB kit
Youve got it wrong about the friendlys. Players literally walk around and pass. You play about 45 minutes then get subbed. Its a training match.
Participating in the Olympics would mean that Mbappe misses the first 2/3 la liga matches, because he's getting a rest. There's already a required rest time after the euros, so he'd most likely miss those pre-season matches.
So basically he would miss nothing
I mean they surely just need to stop playing those olympic/Euro players a couple of weeks at the end of the season and have them rest for a few weeks after the Olympics/Euro's are finished

so now we care about football olympics?
If Mbappe does play in the Olympics I really hope he gets his moment like Neymar did. But this time France will face Argentina in the Olympic final. With this time Mbappe scoring the winning goal or penalty against them and him avenging our loss of the world cup final just like what Neymar did against Germany in his country. Boi do I hope this comes true
i don’t give a shit about the olympics, but how you gonna forget that my country mexico beat brazil in the final in 2012
i think anybody with a brain can see both sides are making good points and nobody is really in the wrong here its just a shame that the situation has become this bad with games that these potential once in a life tournaments are at risk of not having players attend because of too many fixtures.
Nations League i agree with completely has messed up schedules. it turned friendlies that could at times be used to rest players now into another competitive fixture which has too much riding on it that national teams will want to play their best teams.
but also the fact Madrid are going to try and play 3 matches in 1 week in the US really shows the greed on that side of football. where is the rest for those players.
for context: real madrid are avoiding Pedri case. where he played euro and Olympic back to back

In every other sport besides football, representing your country at the Olympics is the highest honor an athlete can recive. As a player I would simply go, what are the clubs gonna do? Im sure every Real player can afford the fine the club is going to impose and I dont think that you will get another chance to play at your home Olympics.
Not true, NBA didn't allow their players to go for many years for example. This is only true for sports like athletics, where the very sport is organized around the olympics and similar events and where a lot of the money these athlets make comes from the national federations. Football players are getting payed to do their jobs by their clubs.
In any other job, if you missed several weeks of work without permission because you really wanted to do that same job for free for some governmental institution you would get fired without any compensation, and probably had trouble finding a similar job when everybody knows you are just going to miss it whenever you want.
@@alpuzza no Player who is going to miss several weeks because they went to the Olympics is going to be brandmarked as troublemaker or will have any trouble finding a club in the future. That might be true for normal working people, but even than I would say it's not a problem finding a job as an Olympian athlete.
The NBA didn't forbid their players to go, it was FIBA who excluded them as they wanted only amateurs to participate. And Nowitzki even stated that its the highest honor of his life to compete for Germany at the Olympics.

"Olympics is for national teams equivalent to conference league- nobody cares"
That's funny cause the conference league pays you 2.5 million prize money for qualifying for the group stages plus all the wins you achieve in the group stage.
On top of the money gained by the knockout games.
For any team not from a top 5 league that money is literally a life saver.
But this donkey would not know that.
Typical globalised football fan who was not born in Europe and South America and gathers his information from meme fb pages.
@uncleriot8571 the conference league is not a useless competition for teams outside the top 5 leagues.
I too have written the USSF notifying them that I will not release myself for the olympics and Copa. Lot of running I need to do, huge Switch backlog to get through.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Madrid can actually hold players who are eligible not overage without the players risking bans.
They can for the olympics, there are certain "international windows" when clubs are forced to release any player called out to their national team, like the World Cup, the Euros, etc., and even some friendly games, like the ones being played this week. Outside of these dates they have absolutely no obligation to release the players, as they are their employees and they are the ones paying their salaries. The Olympic games don't take place during one of these windows.
They can.
