So on Friday and Saturday nights, they setup a road side station and haul over as many cars as they can, to breath test you. It's just not worth trying to drink and drive. That's the main thing road cops do nowadays. We used to have speed traps, but they've all gone. I literally live near a large Police Station and I see them all the time on the street. I usually joke with them and they respond really well. I've had one incident in the past five years, of going through an amber light, to which the cop said it was red. Other than that, nothing. They have been closing cop stations in my neighbourhood for the past ten years because the crime is so low. But that's why the real-estate prices are so high. People want to live here. It's mostly white Australians and now increasingly well educated South Americans.

The look he was giving all super smiles felt risky lol And the girl and him laughing And the way he turned his head toward the cop when the cop first arrived felt so on command 🤣
@boredAtWork so recently there is this thing where a college football player was pulled over in the states. Immediately when asked if he had anything to drink he asked for the breathalyser and the cop still had him do a number of sobriety tests in the rain and the cold for the next 20 minutes or so. The cop finally used the breathalyser, did not inform the man that he blew negative and proceeded to arrest him anyway saying he believed he was under the influence of something else. Well the young man managed to get the recording from the body cams from the police station and put it up on yt and after finding out he is far from the only person to recieve this sort of treatment in that area he has taken it on himself to take legal action to stop it happening there anymore. Here in aus the process of the cop introducing himself, asking you to blow and sending you on your way takes less than a minute as opposed to the 2 hours or so of discomfort that young man went through. Drug tests take longer but it's a pain for the cops just as much as the people they are asking it of so they only do it if they have to or if the person driving looks to be definitely under the influence of something other than alcohol. 1 final point is that the national legal drinking age in the US is 21 because the president at the time basically forced all states to comply with making that the age as he believed that the reason for many drink driving fatalities was many under the age of 21 drinking and driving. The legal drinking age is 18 here, today there is something of a trend away from a drinking culture such as seen with our English cousins, but of course young people will think they are invincible and can take the risk. Give an Aussie a choice of raising the drinking age to 21 or keep it as 18 and have random breath tests and I can tell you what every single one of them would go with.
@boredAtWork it has nothing to do with the state of a police force and everything to do with the ease of which something can be done to keep things amiable between cops and civilians. I have never, ever understood why Americans persist with these useless and ineffective sobriety tests when they can just breatho right from the get go in a process that takes less than a minute from the moment the cop introduces himself. The whole thing of seppos claiming you can refuse to do it because they don't have reasonable grounds to ask it don't understand that upon refusal the cops are thereby given reasonable grounds of suspicion. You guys get to wait until 21 to drink and have a great fk around that is a waste of time and money doing the sobriety tests and here we have a simple Random Breath Test in which much of the tine the cops are rather courteous as they really don't want to be out in the cold at night asking it of people than people like it being asked of them. Believe me when I say that would much rather stay in their vehicles munching McDonald's and don't or fkn whatever and only get out of their vehicles for writing a ticket for someone. The fact you guys still get asked for rego papers is fkn backwards. Here you don't even need to actually carry ID if you are the owner of the vehicle. They just punch in the rego plate and all the details are brought up then. Seppos would use that as a thing of saying oh scary big brother watching everything, but it really is just a matter of convienance. Why worry if you aren't doing anything wrong? What about when your government becomes a dictator seppos might also ask. Well we have things broken down so that can't happen. Our governor general needs to sign off on shit. If he decides its unconstitutional, then he can refuse to sign it and it can't happen.
@boredAtWork it is 100% down to the legislation that governs the police force and those who police the police. The fact your cops are still doing shit that was cleaned up here back in the days of things such as the Fitzgerald commission (look it up) just speaks volumes on the state of things in the US well beyond the actions of the police that they are enabled to get away with. I mean in SF there is documented evidence of cops having their own gangs within the force that are encouraged to blood themselves by killing someone. That shit just shouldn't be allowed to happen in this day and age and says plenty for the lack if police oversight of which legislation plays a significant part in

@@markheckman2196 what's wrong with breathalyser tests if you don't drink and drive?
@@markheckman2196 You are 100% right. That's what they do, and it's really common. They have Pop-up Breath Testing stations.
