    I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

      Remember the mantra: "Reduce, reuse, recycle", in that order! Reducing your usage is more important than reusing, and reusing has more of an impact than recycling.
      Something I started doing to reexamine my habits: pay more attention to whatever is taking up the most space in your trash can. Is it paper towels? Small bottles of toiletries? Face wipes? Feminine products? Many of these can be replaced with a non-disposable alternatives, or reduced with different purchasing decisions.
      It's important to think about habits that you've become accustomed to... Even the ones that seem gross! (Hello, menstrual cup! These are lifesavers!)

      Eating vegetarian/vegan dishes a few times per week. Refusing to buy unnecessarily packaged items or with an unnecessarily large amount of packaging. Finding a place to refill your soap and such instead of buying new containers every time. Using reusable version of disposable products.

      I get most (not undergarments, socks or shoes) of my clothing from resale/thrift/consignment online and brick&mortar shops. I do try to recycle housewares, but just recently saw a doc that indicated not everything put out for recycle pickup actually gets recycled 😐

    As a disabled seller on Poshmark, Mercari etc I just wanted to say thank you for validating that we are providing a service by doing the digging, thrifting and curating of our closets. So many people don’t take that into consideration when shopping in second hand “reseller” spaces. We are putting an awful lot of work in so others can shop from the comfort of wherever they may be. I am only able to handle just a fraction of what most do but it takes all I have to give and I take pride in that!

    I always love watching your chopping content. As someone who loves to dive and dig through thrift stores it's fun to see more curated options out there! We live in a super small town, close to other super small towns, so we're super limited on the thrift store options.

    Where I live, people put boxes of clothes and stuff they no longer need out on the street for others to take for free. I got a bunch of really nice clothes that way and have successfully given away things I didn't want any more. It's a really nice feeling of community, giving and receiving stuff for free, even if you never meet the people in person. It just makes me happy to know that my old stuff is making someone else happy and is not going to waste!

  • @AshleeKnowsNot
    @AshleeKnowsNot Před rokem +106

    My best advice for anyone who has strange sizing and is shopping at thrift stores, keep an open mind. Shop all of the sections. Don't limit yourself to your gender/age category.
    I am a woman and I frequently buy men's clothes and children's clothes, especially at thrift stores.
    Kids clothes are a gold mine if you petite. Especially with the mini-adults fashionistas nowadays.

    • @Gae_rat_in.a_hat
      @Gae_rat_in.a_hat Před rokem +8

      Also a lot of clothes get put in the wrong places. I have found so many cute cropped pieces that were obviously for adults in the kids section😭

    • @amyli092
      @amyli092 Před rokem +3

      I agree with this 100%! The smallest size that I'm able to get into is a medium (for tops), but the largest size that I can feel comfortable in is XL. It really just depends on the style of the garment as well as the brand names. Being a little over 5 ft. makes it fairly easy for me to fit some sizes on top, but not so much on the bottom, so in my experiences at least, I will mostly stay true to size for my bottoms.

    • @jellyfishbubbles2098
      @jellyfishbubbles2098 Před rokem +2

      I recently learned that if your plus size check out the smaller sizes, you might find some Torrid stuff placed there

    • @RiverWoods111
      @RiverWoods111 Před rokem +5

      I sometimes buy men's clothes because I am not petite. I need super long pants. The top of my body is that of someone who is on the short side. Like 5'3", but my legs and hips line up with someone in the 6'3" heights. Sometimes men's pants and especially sweats are perfect in the length for me.
      I have never shopped in thrift stores before because it never dawned on me to go to ones in nicer cities and that were curated. As an autistic woman if I walk into a non-curated thrift store or even a store that is messy. I started getting serious sensory overload issues. Now I am starting to check out the more expensive areas for them and looking online to make sure they are curated. Even if they are more expensive, at least I am upcycling things.

    • @emily_gross1990
      @emily_gross1990 Před rokem +1

      Exactly!
      I found things a few different times on the children's section that happened to either fit me or be a very small adult or teenager size and I ended up getting them for the price of the children's clothing. So sometimes you can get deals that way shopping in different sections.
      But even if Goodwill or salvation army or places like that aren't your go-to for clothing necessarily you should at least try them for home decor and kitchenware.
      I thought in several sets or groups of dishes at Goodwill for a couple of bucks each. Granted they are all mixed and match but they all coordinate pretty nicely and they are all retro 70s. You can find a lot of unique decor items or sometimes chairs or even holiday items are great to get at the thrift store. Goodwill specifically gets a ton of their product in store from Target so you can find things at a fraction of the price that most of the time still has the target tag on it and it is a brand new item.

All are items that were on production sets, so you have everything from tank tops for a few bucks, to accessories and shoes, to some designer items, and even wild costumes. You should be able to ask what production they were from, too. Highly recommend!!

    I am low key jealous. I love thrifting and my medium sized city here in Germany has some options, but obviously nothing as cool as the places you have in LA.
    That said, beware of cheap crystals (or really any if you want to be on the safe side). They are usually from very unsafe and illegal mines where the workers are underpaid and work without any protective gear. The people selling them usually have no direct contacts to the mines so they can't know (and often don't want to know) where the stones are from. Rose quartz from Madagascar is a prime example of how the wellness industry is exploiting people and presenting it as "giving them opportunities". I don't want to come across as someone who hates on people buying crystals (I used to buy them too) but I think it is important to spread this information so people can decide for themselves if the pretty stones are worth the potential hurt they cause.

  • @HaleyMary
    @HaleyMary Před rokem

    I'm 5"5 and athletic and slim and yet have trouble finding clothes that fit properly because I find that lots of women's clothes can feel flimsy unless I go to thrift stores. Newer styles don't make me feel comfortable. The only exception is when I go to the men's section of Urban Planet and will often buy the tie dye windbreakers or sweatshirts because they fit snugly on me. I found an olive green sweatshirt there with a bunch of spiritual symbols on it like the yin yang and it is so comfy. I also got a black autumn jacket at Giant Tiger one time that was in the men's section, but fit me so well.
    That neon jacket looks amazing on you!
    Those crystals look beautiful! I see crystals at Awarehouse Books in Regina, but the big crystals are usually around $50 to $100. $20 is a great deal for crystals of that size!
    I think the word your mom is trying to say is gondolas.

    My favorite place to go thrifting are Value Village and Dots. Value Village is great during grad season in May and June because that's the time of year when they have lots of dresses and I can find lots of cool outfits for my open mic nights. Dots is a great store for retro dresses, jeans and the prices are often 50 to 75% off the original price. I think a lot of their clothing is from out of season stock from Liquidation World. I can also find cool hats at Dots, as well.

I'm 5 feet flat but I'm also not (size wise) "petite", I have an athletic build with wide shoulders, big legs, etc. soo I have to wear bigger sizes but they always go so long on me cause of my height. I don't really like shopping places that make you pay to get inside just to pay for everything you have to buy from the vendors and the food and everything.
    But what I really hate is places that charge an arm and a leg to get inside. Such as like $8, $10, $15+.
    They have a big flea market like that here in the middle of Michigan and it is like $7 per person to get inside. It is usually pretty nice because it's mostly vintage and antique items and we almost always find something every time we go. But when it costs gas to get there and the feed for every person to get in on top of everything that you want to buy there like merchandise and the lunch and everything it really adds up super quickly.
    Especially places that continue to let people through the day or through the doors a half an hour before the show is supposed to end and there are hundreds of vendors. They should have a stopping point for letting people in because if you don't have enough time to even get through half of the vendors it's not worth the money that you spent to get inside.

    It the art (whether clothing, accessories, decor) is being sold by the creator(s), I always feel that the price they ask probably will and should be somewhat higher than super stores or fast fashion places.

    In the words of Raw Beauty Kristi, "progress not perfection".
    People tend to underestimate costs when shopping for local artisans. The cost of materials and the time to produce art pieces add up! I've heard horror stories from artists who have had people tell them off or belittle them due to prices! Am I turned off at a multiple hundred dollar quilt that was handmade? Absolutely! But if it was something I was in the market for and had the money, it wouldn't bother me simply because I know how expensive the materials alone cost!

    OMG! Is Clown Chic a thing or did Molly just invent it? Either way.....that sweater vest/short set is so great!! So after checking out the Nike Dunks.......I actually think you would prefer the tactile pair called Strange Love Nike SB Dunks. They are furry and a bit more muted in color.

    I'd love to see your mother or best friend go into a Goodwill or salvation army and try to pick out a few outfits and maybe some decor pieces they think you will really like. Just so you could do a video on it and test them out and see if you actually do like them or not.
